  1. Hiya Gav, There is a nuts, bolts and washers store near my house and i go directly there when I'm after any remotely related to a bolt, nut or washer. Usually i just go their with a sample, tell them how many i want. I've seen the rip off prices on eBay by reddat. But its only the Higher grade bolts that start to cost. I'm going there this weekend to pick up a batch of common bolts that I've compiled from dismantling the Zed. OH also the fender install kit that 240hoke, i can pretty much replicate all those bolts and even get the nutsert tool there. The problem with 240hoke's set is that the nutsert tool, the bolt to use it, is too short and can easily ruin the thread of the bolt. So i went to the store with little hope of getting a replacement, turns out he asks me, do you want the same one? and i got a slightly longer one, got 5 for 2 bucks, just in case i ruined them again. When you walk in, the shopfront isn't huge, but you can see the shopback and its like a library of just bolts, nuts and washers. I will get the store name on the way home today.
  2. wow that looks very nice. Engine sounds smooth for a v8. Missing passenger wiper. Interior looks immac. By the way when i went through this vid, i decided to check what other vids Scootag had. I just watched the Vlad series... I'm speechless.
  3. I'd like to post this link here. http://www.youtube.com/user/237069 A couple, living in japan, who own Datsuns. The husband owns a Hakosuka racecar and the wife owns a 240z. Anyways go through them and enjoy. I especially like this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIcvrrzVf9k
  4. Is this what your after? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SDC02A/20-1121 Theres 2 types on that website depending on which year range your car is.
  5. I'm not sure what post-package is? It is a commercial version of Joomla? Or another CMS? To be honest I've given up on Joomla, I use it for frontpage articles on this site, but for me its too clunky and set in its own way. The Admin GUI is probably the best feature in it, but even that has its limitations. Given my time again, I would have built this site using Drupal or Expression Engine. All the features that are on this site currently are managed by 3 separate pieces of software making maintanence and security updates a real pita. Drupal seems very flexible in the way you can set it up and its this flexibility which makes it difficult to learn. Themeing for example is a bit harder than it is, say with Wordpress or Joomla, but there are so many things about it that make Joomla look bad. For example you can set up multiple websites off 1 install. I'm going to be doing this with Vintagejdm.com and Carbonmotorsport.com, vintagejdm is for early Japanese car enthusiasts and Carbonmotorsport.com will be for the later cars like Skylines R32, Silvia etc.. One other great feature is your theme's are very much object oriented in the way they inherit. So for example: I could write a base theme for layout and icons to be used in my theme and I could have a sub-theme for vintagejdm.com and carbonmotorsport.com which change the colours only or logo etc... Bit difficult to explain, but for me Joomla is just too Joomlaish! There isn't even a simple forum solution for Joomla, they run phpBB on their own website!!! Which is terrible as you have to register twice on the Joomla.org website. Once if you want to participate on forums and twice if you want to add reviews to extensions and components. Not to mention the search feature on the site only covers either the Joomla side, or the phpBB side. I know where your coming from, I've had experience with both systems. I guess it depends on what your goal is and what your creating. Joomla is more designed for commercial online store type websites whereas Drupal is more of a news bulletin or forum based websites. Both have their pro's and con's. Joomla is a bit different though a lot of the times a post-packaged Joomla system is needed. Kinda like a template with all features modified, ex. database, checkout system, membership, paypal checkout, etc.... Once you have the post-package then it becomes flexible. If i was making a news bulletin website like the late GrandJdm i would go Drupal due to its flexibility in that design. Basically the standard Drupal system is enough to create the news bulletin type webpage.
  6. Wow very nice, has Drupal written all over it. I was wondering Gav, have you tried Joomla or post-package? Or do you think the security risk is too big? I find that Joomla packages are very in-depth and provide a lot of features and functions for users. But i guess everyone has a different preference. Pricing is a huge factor in these post-packaged systems. I will be building a few new websites soon for online sales, for a client, and will be heading the Joomla route. Fu
  7. Does anyone watch topgear? I'm literally going to quote it from them. Honda has already made a hydrogen powered car. The problem at the moment is the infrastructure. How do we store large volumes of hydrogen? how do we pressurize it so we can fill up our fuel tanks? Those are the problem at the moment. One small leak... and we can have a disaster... like those refineries which were on fire in the early 90's but quicker... 1 big bang... as it only needs a partnered element of o2 to react and with the added heat of the first reaction the rest is like a chain reaction. This can open up to terrorism... a.k.a. Al-qaeda or even Emirates nation when they feel that we won't buy petrol. This technology has been around for sometime. I suggest youtubing stuff like hydrogen weld... basically shows hydrogen welding. Now this has been around for at least 5 years and the reason why it isn't endorsed is because of the big bang it could cause.
  8. It looks like you had the Ferrari 430 spider Lego kit. I've got the same one at home and have the exact same wheels. Looking good.
  9. There is a certain quality about them above the rest. Your welcome to come and inspect it. I feel like the F.E.T. intake manifolds are really well made. So instead of buying a no branded intake manifold i decided to spend a little more to get the F.E.T. intake. SK short for Sanyo looks very similar to the F.E.T. intake, I'm pretty sure they both share the same designs. They pretty much cost almost the same. I'm planning to go with either 40mm or 45mm webers. This will be for a L28. My brother has influenced me to go the L28 route rather then to triple weber the L24. I will be keeping the L24 engine in storage. Matching numbers are such a waste to just throw out.
  10. I got two prices, my friend bought them at the local carb store in japan in his area, it was the last one and its pretty rare to get your hands on the F.E.T. branded type. A lot of after market ones. Total package for the intake manifold and heat shield and all bolts and gasket is about $450 including air mail. It would be hard to get the same package new, for that price.
  11. Nothing much happening lately. But i did receive some more goodies. Direct from "NIHON" land. Here we have a F.E.T. intake manifold for the triple carbs and the heatshield. Closeup shots of the parts, for those that are interested:
  12. Hi pigpen, sorry i just recently picked up a box from Ash in really good condition and he threw in practically all the parts for me for the one, super low, price. I should have replied to this post earlier. But i've found what I'm looking for. Only part that i need right now... is the pipe from the master clutch to the slave clutch, but I'll probably get one mocked up at the local brake store.
  13. To test the spark as mentioned above... remove the ignition cable at the distributor (one in the centre of the distributor cap, more specifically the ballast coil (cylinder electrical thing) connects to the distributor by this ignition cable)... and ground it to the chassis and watch the spark jump from the metal tip of the cable to the chassis(grounded metal), when your cranking of-course. There has to be a constant spark and a constant rhythm. Just clarifying as we don't know what level technical you are. *edit* I forgot to mention... once this has been checked its an even safer bet for you to test each plug... so that the spark is followed through all the way to the combustion chamber. How to do this... remove 1 spark plug at a time... hook it back up into its corresponding ignition cable... point the end tip of the spark plug to the chassis and crank. If you see and hear the spark for that specific spark plug then onto the next one, they should spark the same, eg. sound and look, unless you got dirty spark inconsistent plugs. Regardless if you have 1 plug not working... your engine should still run but on 1 less cylinder and you will backfire and it will feel jerky and lots of power loss. Then you need to diagnose whether its the plug or the distributor. Just switch the spark plugs around, one you know is working... if same problem persists then switch a ignition cable to check it isn't the cable... its a distributor problem. (*hint, don't jumble your cables, if you jumble they won't fire your spark plugs right and you will have non-working cylinders and backfiring, better yet take a photo before you remove more then 1 ignition cable) Thats my little writeup for testing spark and distributor.
  14. To be honest I'm not sure when they'll finish it. It takes them a long time just to do one bit. Theres 2 apprentice and 1 main panel beater working on my car. For the apprentice its a grill session by the main panel beater. Ahhhh... memories of being the lacky... If we are good i may get it back within 2-3 weeks which means during exam period and holidays. Which is extremely good because i can get a lot of work done then. Theres one big hole on the firewall i want them to fix before handing it over to me. Due to the hard to reach nature of it... i don't think it will be for a while. Once its handed over... i've giving it a few weeks for re-assembly and maybe a month for the RWC. Leaving a month for RWC is an estimate in comparison to the lengthy process Mango is going through on his car. But all my electrical works, so i don't think it'll be too bad. It'll be the suspension, alignment and those bushings that will probably get me. All should be easy fixes. Oh i also forgot that it'll be going through manual conversion before... the RWC, so i can register it all as a manual. Payday tomorrow so i should have more funds to get some more parts.
  15. *Update* Hi guys, A small update. As most of the underside of the doors, bonnet and hatch have been painted it has slowly moved towards the main body now. There is a black undercoat being sprayed prior to the colour paint as can be seen in the following photos. Before anyone starts asking 'why haven't i taken the engine out and sprayed the engine bay?' it's actually going through a 2 phase process whereby the body will be done first and when i've thought of what engine combination i want, i'll get the engine bay done then. I'm not too fussed about the engine bay colouring as it can be done later, even if the result is slightly different, its not too much of an appeal as the overall body. Also i wanted it to be RWC'd and driven/enjoyed a bit before going into phase 2. crowd says "*cough cough* bull$hit" fu confesses "actually low on funds" :'( OK, now too the photos. Enjoy!
  16. To go along with Mr Camouflage's first point. From what it looks like his big brake package is some random drilled brake rotors and it isn't all that big, it looks pretty standard. So my point is... spent $58k but no front and rear willwoods package?
  17. WOW most of your photos are extremely good. I'm new to photography so I'm learning as i go. I mainly focus on cars as my portrait. Equipment i use are Canon 20D, Canon 18-55mm IS f4.5-5.5 and have just recently purchased a Canon 580exII for a flash and night shots. aside from the shots that can be viewed at my project section, i've also taken these. Feel free to comment on them as harshly as possible. This one was my very first car photo taken with a DSLR. It took 20 tries to get 1 perfect shot.
  18. http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=wangan+midnight+superjakko There you go for the torrents from eps 7-9 Wonderful world of torrents.
  19. thats a good idea. Your also welcome to store it at my house... the rent for storing it at my house... is 240z parts i can scavenge off that car... ROFL jk jk
  20. also want pics of the wats.
  21. Quick question, has everyone received theres yet? I still haven't received mine... weird... Fu
  22. I'd have to take care with the spectrometer machines... we all know a certain member with a certain ninja turtle car... as a result of the wrong diagnoses of colour. But i guess check it with a few places to clear it up.
  23. Yea, according to Brent who sold that 240z on eBay... its also a Chevy Orange. I'm guessing it would be some paint with high heat resistance? Otherwise wouldn't it just crack? Cheers, Fu
  24. Welcome to another update of fufu's 240Z build. It's been a while again... but its been going through quite a bit of work. As most of it is bodywork perfecting it's kinda hard to post pics and updates up as it will be the same thing over and over. As a result i decided to do it all at once. First off I'd like to show a pic of what I'd like the car to look like... Yes, I'm keeping the original colour code of Nissan 903. Mango's car was painted in Nissan CLR915, however the... Honda championship white is definitely a more richer brighter white. There was a lot of debate about which blue was to be used... it was gonna be either R34 GTR Blue or the 903. But the original was chosen in the end. So far the car has been prepped and primed in 4 layers of primer. 2 etch and 2 epoxy leaving the last layer of epoxy the working skin towards straightening. The underside of the bonnet, doors and hatch have been painted as less attention will be focused on those parts. More pics to come.
  25. can someone give Van a test drive in their Z please... i think his going offtrack again from his ideal goal... the Z. Yes i know the 180sx is drop dead sexy, i too did want one in the past... but it's just not a Zed in the end. Let's say you buy a not as much molested 180sx from them teeny bopper for about 9k... L28det about 5 grand. That is... 14grand... that could have been spent on the true thing... a Zed. Just putting price as a perspective... i know a lot of people think its out of reach, and prices are going up and all, but Zeds can still be attained in this era. But price doesn't mean anything in the end... it's about what you want... so if your after the 180sx... god i hope its a good purchase and that the teeny bopper owner hasn't molested it as much.
