  1. Eureka! I told you I was dim with electronics. Both the wires leading out of the radio are positive and of course the chassis is negative/ground. Sifnt remember that George. So now that it's all wired up properly the large light is bright but the small light is still dim. It's now putting out 3.4 volts so I'll just need a 3V light and I should be good. Thanks for the help. You're all good listeners. ;-)
  2. I'm having a hard time figuring out why my two light bulbs found on the radio are very dim. I'm also dim when it comes to electronics so I know how the bulbs feel. I bought a replacement 12V light bulb for this one. When I test it on a car battery charger and a 12V battery it works and is bright. When it's wired up on the radio it's very dim. The wires tested without the light bulb connected read 10.8V but when the bulb is wired up the same wires read 1.5V. What the what the? This other light bulb (below) is also suitably bright when tested independently but also exhibits the above issue when connected. In fact, this one is puzzling me even more and could explain my problem... The negative wire leading out of the radio leads to the positive terminal for the light bulb. The casing for the light bulb is screwed on to the radio chassis. I know the light bulb doesn't care about positive and negative but I'm really confused about how this bulb draws it's power. When I reverse the polarity the light bulb is very bright but the other one doesn't work. Does this indicate an issue somewhere? Also, without the large bulb connected the other light bulb does not work... Earghblergh. I'm confusled. If the above makes no sense and isn't clear enough for someone to provide help I'll just take it in to an electrician at some stage. Cheers
  3. Pete, I have a set you can have but it doesn't come with the rubber which I've never seen actually. Bit dirty looking but will clean up. Let me know if you want them and I'll drop them off along with the pool stuff I mentioned the other day.
  4. Biggest head ever!? Haha Nice Paul. Shall look out for it.
  5. Thanks to Peter for giving me his knob. Every time I touch it I'll think of you... Gav, or anyone else, how do you get the plastic collar off? Also, is there anyone making exact replicas of the button?
  6. Not surprised it sold. I very nearly bought it myself! Happy for Ken and the new owner. :-)
  7. Chassis #745 with matching engine. Spares make the deal too good to be true. Would need a full resto as it lives outside with the beach 100m down the road.

  9. I have a Dremel so I'll give it a go. I'll sleep on the idea about the bench top. My primitive survival instincts are telling me to be cautious here...
  10. Very interested in photos like these Gav. Thanks for sharing. I dabble in horology and after a couple of years I still consider myself a total noob. Clocks are a lot easier to work on than watches but even so, it's best left to experts when it's a precious item and I'm sure despite the high price you'll pay the results will be worth it. I'm currently working on my clocks and have 1 running accurately, another in pieces and considering what to do with a third one. I've seen some of the quartz conversions which is tempting...

  12. I have a sandblaster and have cleaned one of them. It looks dull which I do not mind. I was just wondering if they now need some protective coating but if it's good to use as is after blasting I'm happy to leave it at that. I did take some photos so I'll post some tonight.
  13. Thanks Pete. Does that mean they are grey cast iron with inherent anti corrosion properties?
  14. I'm just curious how components like the fuel pump and master cylinders were originally finished for corrosion resistance. Are they grey cast iron or cast alloy? If I sandblast them how can I protect them from corrosion? I rang some electroplaters today and some of them said they don't do cast iron as it's difficult to plate. Most only do zinc plating which is a bright finish where these components look like they were finished with a dull look. How can I replicate that finish with today's plating standards?

Cheers Pete. Challenge accepted. P.S. I've been working out in preparation for the body lift for the engine install but still no call...?

  19. Eh, it's not real money, it's in NZ$. Great price! I keep going back to the comment from craig701, '$5000 now!'.
  20. I like Kincrome tools. Aussie company, even if the tools aren't all made here. https://www.kincrome.com.au/Category/workshop-and-engineering/tap-and-die-sets?PageProduct=1 Cheaper here: http://justtools.com.au/tap-die-sets
  21. Haha, you're welcome any time. It's an SB-200 Pete from Machinery House. http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/S289 The link is deceiving, they do stock it.
  22. It's satisfying seeing them come back to life and it serves as good practise for skills that will be required later on when we get to some of the more expensive/rare items. It's all fun Yes, I bought one a couple of weeks ago and just started using it this weekend; basically learning on these parts.
  23. Finally I've started playing around with some parts. Spare Tyre Clamp Pretty rough looking but the rubber is in good shape After a sandblast 2 coats of VHT primer and 2 coats of VHT Engine Enamel Aluminium I'm sure the 500+ f. heat resistance will come in handy here... Heat Shield Again, very rough looking Mostly just grease and grime However, not all is rosy under all that grime Not pleased with the finish but it'll have to do The paint however is excellent Horns I thought I'd tackle the horns as well. They look rough and they are! They do however work and as everything on these cars they are serviceable, I just had to work out how they toot! Bit banged up so I roughly hammered them back in to place This is where I'll have to do some more work. There is a paper insulator (my best guess) which has deteriorated. I need to source a replacement material. Sandblasted. The part on the right was plated. I have hit it with a primer for now. Not sure if that will affect the performance of the horn but I can always go back and plate it later. More of that VHT in satin black. I bought it for other parts so I thought why the hell not. I'm not quite there yet with the horns. I've only done 1 and I still need to fine tune it but it does emit a sound. It's nothing like a proper horn though and I'm guessing it's got to do with the insulator mentioned earlier and also because I didn't have everything tight due to still drying paint. The fasteners need to be plated or replaced as well.
