If it can get dropped off to my Branch in Tullamarine I can send it up with some freight to my Brisbane office. May take a few weeks plus but would be free.

Good pick up, have never seen that one before

May I suggest (based on recent experience) - if only mechanical points, take off distributor cap and turn it over to see you get a spark across the points (or hold a plug lead and get a hit if you like that type of thing) - if no spark (unlikely) then you have an ignition problem. Coil, etc. - if you get a spark, take off air cleaner and spray "Start You Bastard" into the intake. - if you do not get a kick, its still the ignition problem - if it kicks and will not run its a fuel problem. Assuming you have SU's, take off each fuel bowl and see if there is any fuel in there (careful not to lose the float needle). I would guess that there will be no fuel and potentially the needle is stuck. I had one stuck open and the other shut! - if that's OK it would have to be a blocked fuel filter or a fuel pump not working Good luck with that

After owning a XR6T and then a 260Z the thought of having that engine is a Zed is somewhere between a dream and a nightmare. So much power and torque in such a light car. Wow. Good luck with it. Cannot wait to see there thread.

Who won this one? Anyone here? -
Welcome you have come to the right place for information and support. Mechanically there are no massive traps in a Datsun. If in doubt ask. Good luck with your search.
-
Sounds like you may have a somewhat endless source of rust that is coming from your fuel tank. This needs to be cleaned out completely. For there to be rust there must have been water in there at some stage. How could this have occurred ?

Great story behind the Zed. Welcome and looking forward to see how the car progresses. -
To complete the story to say how I have ended up as a middle aged man with a need to own a Zed ..... there is a trail that lead to my condition 1977-1977 Datsun 1600 White – wrapped around a Kept Left sign 1978-1978 Datsun 1600 Burnt Orange – rolled on its roof by best mate 1979-1983 Datsun 1600 Baby Pooh Yellow – written off on honeymoon 1982-1987 Datsun 1600 Baby Pooh Yellow – wife’s car, look matching……. 1983-1984 Datsun 180BSSS – first Datsun I ever sold (and did not write off) 1984-1987 Datsun 180B Wagon 1987-1991 Datsun Bluebird LX

What price did you get them for? Was it the $70/pair? As the price I was linked to was $165 each
-
Thanks Linton, a bit more expensive now...I will have to negotiate
-
Thanks, do you know who is the ebayer selling them? I cannot find one......
-
Cool, can you provide a link for the eBayer when you have a sec?

Well the Pakistan cow has arrived! I am very impressed with the service, quality, price and time taken from payment to delivery. I am not confident enough to try and fit them myself so have found a guy that used to do Rolls Royce's. The seats I am using are out of my son's Zed and are in very poor condition and I am a bit concerned about the foam support in the seats. Has anyone had any experience with replacing or working with it? There is a hessian type of material there as well that looks quite old and fragile.

I could not believe my luck, everything I wanted to be done to the Zed was done and done well. But could I go back and buy the same car I has sold 4 years earlier? Seemed a bit wrong to go back to something I had had before, a little strange really. I eagerly waited for someone else to buy it....I waited...and waited.....and waited...but alias it sat on the net tempting me :D so dam it I just had to have it back And as said by George Costanza...."I'm back, baby I'm back!" All it needed was a Boob Job (said by the famous "Sydney Mike") and the mags had somewhere to show their curves.
-
Finally decided that I needed to have a Zed again so I started trolling the web..... After a couple of months this one appeared:

What I was looking for in a weekend drive was something that had some "punch" and was fun to drive so I spent another 6 months looking all over Australia for a good example of a manual XR8....only had to drive to Newcastle this time to get what I wanted (below). This car was a rocket, fun to drive and suited my personalised plates again (TIM260 but instead of standing for 2600cc it was 260kW!). I loved driving it but it was not like owning and driving a Zed....the shine did not last long and I sold it for a Nissan Navara ... what the? However I still found myself coming back to this site and always looking at "260Z's for sale". There was always a connection back to these cars, some may think an obsession..... Then I end up buying a set of mag off a 260Z ..... why the hell would you buy a set of mags for a car you don't have?
-
It was encouraging to see the Zed go to someone who was looking into a hobby to rebuild the car to what was the next logical step for me to do.....if I had the ability and time. A sad day in deed but she was off to a better place.....well at least for a while
-
Welcome Dave, you should start your journal now ..... its the beginning. We are all waiting in great anticipation.

Thanks guys, I did chase that one but Mark was too quick. Have PM'd..... Also thanks dazzed I am planning to get the Weber from Procarb

Looking at fitting a brand new down draft Weber but need a manifold first. I believe that one off a 240K or maybe a 280C would do if anyone has one kicking around. Would be interested in photo's of a down draft fitted for inspiration too.
