Aren't there two separate diff mounts for a 280ZX? One at the front of the diff where the insulator sits between the bottom of the diff and a cross member(presume this is the one you are referring to Tim) The other at the top rear of the diff where the insulator then bolts to the chassis. There are two types of rear mount/insulator available. Depends if you are running an R180 or R200 diff. Cheers.

With the rather large sums of money spent on getting your pride and joy restored, I wonder why rust proofing isn't high on the priority list. Was watching some doco recently on car production and part of the rust proofing process was submerging the whole shell into a very large bath(not sure what was in it) This allowed every nook and cranny to be rust proofed properly. Be good if there was a business out there that did this sort of thing for the restoration community. Or maybe someone here knows of a place like this. Will follow this thread with interest

The original guards get trimmed/cut. That's the main reason for fitting the flares to enable you to run very wide tyres. Tyres that wouldn't normally fit under a stock Z guard. You could get the flares removed and the cut out metal replaced, but the repair would be costly as stated previously. Bit like paying for the missus to get some implants and then not liking them and asking her to remove them

I saw an add not to long ago and the guy wanted about $80.000 for a fully restored 240K coupe that had all the GTR Skyline stuff added to it. Will try and find the add again and post it here. Wish I still had my 240K coupe that I owned back in the early 80's.

The L series motor is up there as far as great engines go, but the U series(U20) is something else again. Talk about bullet proof!

Both links are for the same car! Anyway, be careful. As far as I am aware, there were no 280Zx Turbos sold from Nissan dealerships here in Oz. Good chance the turbo was fitted at some point during it's life and not when the car was first purchased from Nissan here. You may have probs with reg if the car isn't complianced(must have an id tag fitted to the engine bay stating mods) Best of luck.

Maybe try and negotiate on the price, especially if it doesn't run. If it does run, it may be worth the $500. It may just need a good tune and service as well as the usual rwc items such as windscreen, brake rotors and pads and tyres. Some good advice above, all of it relevant. I looked into importing a 280ZX 2 seater from New Zealand recently and the cost get it here, duties etc came in around $6K. If you put the car onto club plates it works out quite a bit cheaper as compared to full reg, stamp duty and compliancing(just the fee comes in at $1200) If you are really keen on importing maybe keep an eye on NZ and Japan. Both markets are RHD. If you do go down the importing path drop me a pm and I will let you know what importer I was going to use. Cheers and good luck.

I bought a '73 240K coupe when I was 19. It was my introduction to Datsun/Nissan cars and their legendary L series engines. Really miss that car. Got my first 240Z at 23! Btw I am 53 now! A guy down the street from me owns a 240K Coupe GTR replica. A very nice car.
