I haven't posted too often on these forums but had to weigh in on these discussions(I do however like having a read of topics posted throughout this site) I have had the pleasure of owning a few zeds over the years, including a 240k coupe back in 1980. If it wasn't for the K, I may have never gone down the zed pathway. There have been three 240Z's, a 1977 260Z coupe and a 1982 280ZX 2+2. I still own a 240Z and the 280ZX. I have liked them all and they all have their good and bad points. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what you really want out of the car and what will suit you and your life style the best. Good luck with your decision.

I tried ordering a 240Z bonnet from Nissan just last week and unfortunately it came up NLA on the computer........damn. 260Z flutted bonnets are still available and there is stock in the country (don't have to wait for it to come from Japan)

I noticed this listed on the trading post(along with a couple of other zeds) Could it be a genuine 432?? If it is genuine, I wonder what it will fetch. NZeder, that's what I initially thought seeing those tailights. But after recieving some extra pics via email(thanks Mark), I noticed it had a series one bonnet and bumpers. I like the rack and pinion set up of the series 2, over the drag link/steering box of the earlier ZX. Can't understand why Nissan did that to the series 1, 280ZX. Maybe we can get Mark to confirm what year the car is.........Mark are you out there??

There is a 280ZX on ebay that sounds a little too good to be true. It is against my better judgement to buy a car sight unseen, except for the ebay pics supplied. Unfortunately photo's don't tell the whole story. I need someone who's into zeds to check this out for me if possible....PLEASE. The car is in Berala near Lidcombe. I have heard there are a few back yard panel beaters in these areas I hope someone lives nearby that can do this for me. Bump.... Just noticed this. Sorry my reply is a bit late. But the answer to the million dollar question is infact yes. Nissan went to rack and pinion steering for the series two, 280zx. I really don't know why they went for the drag link set up in the first place on the series one. Complete waste of time putting boat anchor steering on a sports car (ok some of you wouldn't call a 280zx a sports car ) For the record I own two zeds and luv them both (series one 240Z/series two 280zx) Well one maybe luved a little more than the other

Hey Simon. Do you intend on keeping the 280zx in the family for a while?? Is it a clean car that deserves some dollars spent on it?? Here's something to think about...... Get a series 2 rack and pinion steering and put that on. Sorry but I have never been a fan of the old drag link set up (aka fred )

Holleys do make a great sound as well as do SU's.But I think webbers/dellorto and injection(set up on a webber type manifold with ram tubes,which make em sound a lot like webbers) get my vote for the pure sound factor. Pauley, I haven't seen a cable set up so can't really comment. You might have to research the web to see what people have done. There are a lot of Z's in the states that have gone for the Holley conversion. So I guess you should be able to find some info hopefully.

I have driven 3 Z cars that have been set up with a Holley carb. Holley carbs do work rather well no disrespect to the old faithful SU's and Z purist out there! It's amazing how well a 350/two barrell or a 500/4barrell carb works if it is set up right, especially on a worked engine. The biggest problem is getting a manifold that works well. I know you can get one from the states from Arizona Z car(I think thats the name) Otherwise the only other option is a early 240k manifold and an adaptor plate and plenty of porting. Even then your airflow is pretty restricted with the K manifold. One good thing is that parts, especially jets are cheap compared to webbers and are readily available just about anywhere here in Oz. There's a older bloke that lives out Essendon way that drives a 260Z 2+2, set up with a 350 holley and a worked L28 bottom end. Gotta say this car gets up and boogies. And thats with a restrictive 240k manifold. He had the linkage set up retained for the accelerator. Looked quite neat. Pretty sure his name was Denis and he said a Z mob out Altona way had set it up for him a few years ago.

If this helps, my 240z is car#000268. I have owned this car for nearly 20years. The car is silver. Although it has been resprayed at some time before I purchased it, the engine bay and inside the car have never been touched and remain in the original factory silver.

Ironic that I was thinking of the possible legalities of trying to reg a 240z with L28 fitted myself today :roll: Spent some time in the garage this afternoon looking over my 240, which has been sitting idle now for 10 years! (owned it for about 20 years) It is definately time to get it back on the road!

I was told they are bronze, at least on the 260 E88. Sorry.....bronze/brass, got the names mixed up. The theory still stands though. Bronze intake seats were an invention that needed lead in petrol to operate efficiently. Thats why Nissan went to hardened steel seats for the 280zx's(N42 head) and other models around this time. because governments around the world were legislating and introducing unleaded fuels. And cylinder heads had to be updated to cope with the change.

Hey Pauly, the problem I see with running the E88 head is that the valve seats are brass(inlet). These seats aren't compatible with unleaded fuel. So you will have to run an upper cylinder lubricant of some sort. The N42/P90 heads all run hardened steel seats(inlet and exhaust) which are compatible with unleaded fuels

If you don't want to change to the 260z larger diam struts let me know. I should be able to find a drivers side 240z strut in the shed somewhere. Price.....negotiable!

Dave, as long as its just the plastic gears on the drive thats sheared, hopefully nothing else should be damaged. The spindle on the drive wasn't broken, so there should be nothing metal thats fallen into g/box internally to really damage anything. You didn't actually mention if the box was noisy or not. You should get another drive(same colour as the shredded one) and see if that fixes it. Be sure to drain your old g/box oil, and then flush with some fresh oil(leave drain plug off g/box and put at least a litre of oil thru box to flush out any debri. You could use elcheapo no name brand engine oil for this too!) Top up box with fresh gear oil, go for a drive and see if it works Good luck!

Last time I went there, Warren had taken over the reigns from Rob. And the place looked like a bomb had hit it! Very messy to say the least. Not that Rob ever kept it clean anyway. Is it any better now? Don't know if I'd leave my car there :roll: And on a parting note: I believe Warren did work for Z spares in the beginning, a long, long time ago :wink:
