with 3.36 you be flying.hopefully the panels hold up at high speeds. i still got to figure out if my performance issue is fuel delivery or 4.4diff.
-
fitting it same spot that original fuel pump resided under th ecar infront of the tank. cant be bigger than 2L. otherwise wont fit. also needs a lid with good seal that i can mount the internal fuel pump. ill get a pic of my old setup what i need but just need it to be better.
-
prob thought not enough flow. so added the second one but found out wasnt necessary. i got to revisit my fuel pump setup again. got Holley Red feeding a VL turbo pump (repco branded one) i keep thinking its running out of fuel (thats what it feels like) so wouldnt mind getting rid of the generic branded one and replacing with bosch unit or get someone to make me a surge tank with proper lid so i can install a internal walbro pump that i allready have. i had a surge tank made but had issues sealing the lid and plugs where the wiring goes. now just piggy backing from one pump to other no surge tank. got to keep it above 1/4 tank otherwise it dies.

what a bargain. lol. lucky you at least u just have to finish the fun stuff off.the hard boring work has been done. besides polishing, but i guess it can reward well when results are great.

Congratulations Lurch first on buying a 2 seater and second being quiet about it for so long. like your plans for it too. RB installs are fairly easy. you will see. even better when they in the car running tearing up the streets. any tips you may need just ask.

yeah the gutter moulding is pain. (use grease or wd40 i used lip balm LOL ran out of the other stuff) i found starting from the bottom than work towards the back worked fine. start from an angle align approx like it will fit the gutter but dont clip. the long straight piece should be lifted so the the shorter a piller bit just slips over the gutter. than carefully twist the long bit towards the roof with slight twist on it. similar as u would do the shorter a piller. when u have the channel just resting on the gutter lip slightly push the whole moulding little bit lower. u feel where it wont slide anymore. than wipe the slipery stuff off and shove your fingers in the gutter and try to twist the hole moulding over the gutter. it just snaps into place. well thats what worked with me. also mask the painted areas incase u slip and put a nice deep scratch on your new paintwork.

SR20DET for 1K what u waiting for unless its got a hole on the side of the block. that is cheap. hey no sr20det powered 2+2 yet. thats different

RB20/25 RB30 is bit taller so prob need to drop the engine bit lower. u need a oil pik up from z31 fairlady Z 200zr approx $70 new from nissan sump from the same above car. approx $580 Option2: cut the original one and swap it around reweld. some ppl use custom or aftermarket mounts. i just used R32 skyline ones slotted the cross member to suit. if leaving engine and gbox in same position the transmission bracket aligns up. but there is room to go more backwards. than custom tranny mount, tailshaft and some moding to engine brackets. if not i believe that even the stock tailshaft will fit. but have to check it at worse u prob need tailshaft cause 1. be too long or two too weak. than wiring etc... if going efi and intercooler piping if turbo. new exhaust at least the front half. also i belive there are kits from US for RB engine conversion but realy it is not necessary once sump is sorted the rest of it is quite easy. than fuel pump need to be looked at depending on the engine. ie efi and turbo. early model 240z the fuel lines are smaller diameter so that may be necessary to borrow from the 260z as they are same as the donor car. if using wiring from donour car. dont know y people dont do this more often its quite simple. unplug the complete wiring including sensors etc.... from donour car. everything plugs back in except the 6way main connector. which is same as on the 260z.the pins need to be rearanged or tapped into the Z ignition wiring. pretty much 5 wires and the engine should turn over and run (once fuel, starter and other stuff is connected in engine bay.) there are plenty of reprogrammers re chipping the RB ecu very cheap. other than that depending on ur budget etc.. u need to look at stronger diff ie R200 and or LSD, Brakes prob need a good upgrade. as the stock anchors may cook. i thin i can drop an RB in over a weekend if i have all the above bits. things that are optional but safe. ie replace the timing belt and water pump. they not that expensive for piece of mind and lot easier when engine outside TIP: do not overtighten the belt or u will kill the cam read the service manual. if engine looks bit shabby have a look at oil pump as well. but this is bit more pricey. also prob clutch be a good time to replace since most of its appart. without the intercooler i can drop an RB in over a weekend and have it running if i have all the above bits.(thats if i had time to do it in first place)

Pauly u got the best connections. just drob an RB for kicks lol. wont blow head gaskets. it may blow ur drive shafts and maybe diff to ur setup. ive seen a T4 turbo on L24 with single stromberg carby. though this was a suck through system. so no intercooler or blow off valve can be used.it did have a decomp gasket and was very realiable. laggy and had bit off power. i wouldnt go twins. Single turbo. u would have to do something about carbies as they will lean out and or pop under positive pressure. u did mention sorting that with some sealed bearings etc... what i was thinking to do on my 240z (once i get to it) since i got the matching number engine. is to rebuild it have a decomp gasket to drop the compresion ratio. install a L28 efi system or even use a Rb20/25 efi electronics, adapted to L24 A T28 turbo intercooler and new exhaust. make it look retro and hide the ecu somewhere inside the engine bay. (no holes to cut in the firewall, so the car can be returned to stock) i will try and check the cost of these things and than compare to alternatives, if end ups to costly ill just drop an RB or SR in it at least wont have any issues in tunning it but still install it in a way that can be returned to stock quite easily. if u have the bits than just go for it but not the twins. even with single i think your gasket will let go.
-
twins sounds a bit too much. it will be laggy thats if it will hold up till 6psi boost rise. im assuming this is going on the L26 l28. single turbo will simplify things and u wont get any gain from putting 2 on. if u had two smaller t25 than u get the benefit of quicker spooling and better top end than a single t28. usualy the twin turbo setup uses smaller turbos. just lookat the cars that have them from factory. designed to give quick spooling (less lag) and still enough for top end. best of both worlds. mazda has done a sequential setup on the 13b and 20b. a smaller one pumping the bigger one. work ok in stock form but try raise the boost as both need to be matched. hence they rip them off and install a single bigger one. also if its stock engine im sure u wont have any issues destroyin it with a single turbo setup. to make it last prob a decomp gasket, and in my preffereance efi. EFI makes tuning simpler and in long run cheaper. a simpler solution just dropin in a rb turbo engine

i think you right Sulio, it seems to have that effect. also ive noticed even younger generations are turning to older jap classics to be different than the norm of imported skylines, silvias, supras, wrx etc.....which knew nothing of the early Z or celicas RX etc.... thankfuly not many young kids but at lest one with bit more brains. the ones that are not into wavey cheap body kits with skiny tyres and dodgy paint jobs. if u cant afford to do it properly dont do it at all. do the safe mods that actualy look good and not make the car look like it came out of some US movie with extreem mods that look like crap. back to this car anyone found it yet? Sulio be good if u get it and give it what it deserves. im chokers now got no room for any more cars. got to fix and sell few of them. :'(

LOL at above. i love conversions for me they are simple and very cheap and cost effective. but not everyone is the same or can do the job themselves. i also hate carby fuel setup and love turbos. LOL hence i did my car they way i want it. some guys spend as much as on their tripples as much as i spend on the whole conversion.but not everyone is the same. but also respect the originality (sometimes ) ie i dont like bog stock but keeping the key aspect original is good. mods are good if u can return it back to original expecialy if the car from start was in good original condition. for a bucket yeah y not change everything LOL anyway so what happend to the car did you end up getting it? did anyone else pounce on this?

Craig post a pic of your mudflaps please. the link shows the 280zx ones but yeah they looked like that. realy moulded nicely into the shape of the guards. pitty i only had the edge part everything else was missing. i think i did try nissan but 99.99% of the accessories for these cars have been scrapped. may try again.
-
when i got my 2+2 it had the moulded type flaps. they looked good.(need to check Craigs ZZZ8 pic to see if same). problem with mine they were shagged. im also looking in getting a set of the moulded type, or to get a mould made out of FG.(but not looking hard enough). the old school flat rubber type dont appeal to me. also have a set of old school stainless ones that i ripped of a nother 260z at the wreckers. but again didnt suit my car. would definetly buy the moulded if i ever find them.
-
i must agree. that did not look like 450hp. my 240 with l28 on 5 cylinders and blown headgasket looks faster. got footage to prove it LOL seems to bog down heaps and than doesn't seem to pull hard in second but bogs down again. also doesnt seem to get on boost. hmm must be dynoed on "Dodgy BROS DYNO" to get the 450hp figure. he likes the "blow me" valve sound the most by looks of things. woopdie doo. also i didnt like the shape of the rear wheel arch. not the flared bit is cool. but the edge just looked wrong. other than that i wouldnt say no to it.

welcome to the forum. as most here will tell u first where are the PICS since im on the other side of oz i let nsw members reply to your quiestions where to get stuff in Sydney. but if u get stuck i can supply numbers from SA for those bits u after. colour i prob say silver. Black is a bitch to keep clean and gets very hot. also dents and scratches show very easily on the black. silver total opposite. as for suspension i let someone else write the details. i can give ur pointers for DIY dash resto as ive done mine.

well done looks very nice.

260z 2+2 or hold out for original 240z or 260z?
RBZ 260 replied to aztekZ's topic in General Discussions
welcome to the forum. bad luck on not getting that Z but there will be more. though i couldnt let the 2+2 handling comment go past. that would be the first ever comment i heard that 2+2 handles worse than the 2 seaters. all the ones I heard was the other way around. got both of them and i tend to agree that 2+2 feels lot more stable than the 2 seater and seems to go better around corners expecialy at higher speeds. wet driving definetly 2+2 is the better one. occasionaly few good Z for sale but price varies. seen from 10k to 35k. depends what u want and how much you want to spend. buy what u realy like dont worry what other people say. 4 seaters have their advantages. way beyond the 2 seaters. but depends what ur use is. some people like to take their family out for a drive well in a 2 seater u can only take ur mistress. to keep everyone happy buy both -

Hi Mike good to see you stumbling here as well. now hurry up and do some work on the 240Z . needs to be finished by next cruise. ( i know i wish) we need to catch up to VIC and NSW in number of early Z. post in classifeds for those parts you still need. im sure someone has something laying around and willing to help you.

Man that looks sexy. another S30 to grace the roads with pride. great job.
-
man if i could track this car down. without hesitation ill give him 2k. but will try $500 first that looks like a real good base car. as for engine swaps if orginal keep it. dont sell any parts from the car. if u like me and like improving things do it in such a way that can be returned to original afterwards. if the car was mine and original number engine ill just bring it back to original with few period mods. if u not a carby fan like me the original motor can be efi quite easily. later model 280zx and skyline stuff pretty much bolt on. just look at the pics in galleries. lot better looking car than a Sillycar sell the celica and invest in the Z u wont be sorry.

As per title. It will be on the 22 Feb 2009. so if any interstate members are planing a holiday in South Oz try to accomodate this date. Should be good. HOT weather wicked beaches and lot of (for the guys) hot chicks wearing very little and (for gals) well not into that side so you have to make up your own mind, sorry but Most of all lot of Z. our last meet we had a good turnout considering the date landed on Classic Adelaide Rally and quite a few went to that. other details are still in the planning. some options were meet at the beach and than drive to one of the towns on the River Murray through the Adelaide Hills and than stop over for a BBQ. Should be sweet. Let me know whos interested.
