  1. Give Carlos at Sports Classic in Castlereigh a ring, he has one that has been for sale for a while, it is a rally car, but would be able to be bought back to road spec very easily, ie change tyres to road tyres and drop the suspension. I think you would be looking at high teens to get it from him. http://www.sportsclassic.com.au/
  2. Evan, Do it in the car, easiest if you put the motor in sans manifolds and then do exhaust first then inlet. If you could have salvaged the existing ones, you could have done it the way it was designed to do at the track....... Block in then put manifolds on head and dropp head on motor Exhaust was set up the way it was to ake it easy to do a head gasket at the track, we had to undo the three bolts at the first joint, undo the head bolts, unclip the injection harness and lift the head off complete with the inlet and exhaust manifolds.
  3. Just having a dig around on Natsoft looking for results of today's Wakefiled 300, and found this..... http://racing.natsoft.com.au/results/#7 Results from my first ever run at Lakeside, supporting the Super Tourers in 2000, first ever look at the track, doing 67's on Friday and down to 64's on Saturday for qualifying, and then 65's racing on Sunday and a DNF for the main race as I popped the head gaskket on Friday and the motor screamed enough when we had a red flag on lap one and the heat soak sitting on the grid meant the motor wouldn't fire up again when we were restarted. I was also able to find races from 97 at all the tracks when I took out the '97 Marque Sports Drivers Championship in NSW. I miss racing at Amaroo, in my opinion a harder track than Lakeside, it bit even harder if you went off, though not as quick, some would say a jig jog track as you won't get into 5th........
  4. But Richard that 2s CAMS licence will then let you run at great places like Noosa Hillclimb, choice of two per year, Mt Cotton Hill climb, quite a few events like the Tighe series and Qld Chamionship, a plethora of sprints like Gatton, Leyburn and Lowood as well as Maryborough, and also sprints at Morgan Park, Hill Climbs at Grafton, and that's without looking up the CAMS website, oh and the CAMS insurance for competitors is much better than AASA if something does go wrong on the track and you are injured, as wella s pit crew being covered. And with the amount of money it's costing to get to Phillip Island, really what an extra $100 in the scheme of things......

    Waterless coolant

I just used the Penrite glycol free coolant and water as recommended in my race motor, all was good in terms of how the motor went on the track. The biggest killer for me was as I generally only put the electric fan on on the dummy grid or in the pits I was relying on the air flow through the radiator to do it job. Best thing was the price.
  6. 90dB at the edge of the track...... So it doesn't take much to be too loud, but year as Richard said plenty of ways to meet noise levels without spending dollars. easiest way to make an exhaust quiet, throw a turbo at it
  7. Not mine and no affiliation with the seller, but thought I would put this ad up from the Queensland Production Sports Car Association forum. The 350 is a brand new build from a 2005 road car with 60k on it. It has been built for CAMS 2B to run in class B for the power to weight rules for the Cue One Hour Enduros. It is a serious bit of kit for not a lot of money. There are some very good bits included and it is a well built and set up car, and the build cost figure would be on the cheap side. It has approximately 385hp to play with and all the good bits for the track. http://www.pscraq.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=907 This car would be only for someone serious about going door to door racing. I would buy this in a heartbeat if I had the cash. I know it's a bit too modern for here, but you never know who is lurking about.

    Floods!!!!!!

Yup, the only channel that I found had decent coverage was the ABC for Tv and ABC local radio. Just like last time, if it's more than an hour's drive from Mt Cootha it didn''t happen for the commercial networks.

    Floods!!!!!!

Won't be going to work tomorrow and then I'd say i will be one of many hands on deck. Flooding through the Lockyer is worse than 2011 and all the flood reconstrunction work is probably washed away. The only positive things I can say are: I will have plenty of work for the next 12 months I had a nice quiet weekend at home, and I got the aircon working again on the 200, but should have been converting to a boat I have been lucky, apart from the rain and the neighbours across the road having a tree fall near their pool from the park out the front of my place, nothing exciting has happened here.
  10. Capital Datsun, a google search didn't uncover any original stickers unfortunately.
  11. Capital Nissan, would be the perfect one to do for the Sydney boys as they were one of the biggest dealers in Sydney on Parramatta Road near Aurburn in the '70's.
  12. Because race car.......
  13. And here is where I lose all my interwebs points for my car in non-stance mode. For wet races I was using only 15x7" rims with a 225/50/15 tyre, a bit different to the slicks.....
  14. So looking at the photos above, I then achieve stance and internet credits for chasing performance when you look at the photos below?
  15. Each to their own, but I prefer my cars to handle. My cars may end up with "fully sik stance bro", but not by design. The old Zed filled the guards with the 18x8 wheels and slicks but I wouldn't have called the car slammed or with fitment. The haidresser car is a bit lower than standard with the new coil overs, buut nothing stupid as you throw the geometry out more as you lower it and the MX5 is very suseptable to ride height and camber changes affecting the handling and driveability. Plus it runs relatively narrow 7" rims for the road and narrower 6 1/2" rims for the track. The 200 has fairly unimpressive 7 1/2" rims on it at the moment, and when the shell is built will be using rims up to 11" wide on the rear and 10" on the front depending on what a couple of engineers say re "overtyring" the car, minimum rim width will be 8". It all depends on what you want from your cars. In my case I want them to go round corners and stay on the road when you hiit a bump or two mid cornner.
  16. If you can keep the R180, keep it. A lot lighter than the R200, and generally cheaper to get different ratios if you need to chase them up. In my car I only ever had 1 R180 let go and that was after a customer rolled the diff over, letting the oil drain out and cleaning te mess up without telling anyone. It did almost 10 laps of Amaroo before going bang.No other problems at all with launching from 3500 for race starts to 6000rpm for hill climb starts to put oon a show. And a cheap easy fix for the diff restraint is a bit of chain over the diff, worked well in my race car.
  17. And a golf clap to you good sir....... Exactly, how can you compare so many different cars and what does it matter if they are driven as hard and as fast as they can go......
  18. I wouldn't bother, it's just full of Victorians......... And they don't have proper footy on the tele, only that game where 36 blokes in tank tops rub up against each other on an empty cricket field........ In all seriousness, the roads around Bright and down to Lakes Entrance are fun and Lakes Entrance was a great spot when I was there a couple of years ago for a couple of days work. As said the great ocean road is worth doing to say you've driven it, but try to do it duriing the week to minimise traffic. And if you've got the time drop in and annoy the usual suspects on here, great way to save on accommodation.....
  19. All well and good to be getting the good results, but I have to agree with Jason and also what I said in my first post here. It's horses for courses. Peter Mac's drag zed would blow us all away over a quater mile, but would it turn corners as well as a circuit car? My car was never the most powerful, but it never broke unless someone hit it, and as a result I won a state championship, so whilst my car is not the quickest doesn't it get rated as one of the best cause I got a trophy for a year's work??? And then you can look at different competitions like hillclimbs to sort the quickets car as the most powerful won't win, but the car that is set up tthe best as can be seen in the results at Noosa or Mt Cotton, my car was not set up for hill climbs and suffered as a result, yet I was quicker than those cars beating me on the hillclimb when up against them in a 10 lap race on a circuit or qually. A good exampple of what I am talking about is comparing John McKeons Z to mine, when it was still in Sydney before John bought it. Both built at around the same time, mine probably a couple of years earlier in 2B trim, and raced together for 2 seasons in Sydney. It was a couple of seconds a lap quicker than my car in qualifying, but when first built was fragile, so I beat it in races more often than not. Who has the faster car, the one that was quicker for a lap, or the car that finished the race in a quicker time because it wasn't in pit lane or on the side of the track with a geabox in bits. Couldn't you rightly say the 4WD V8 260 hill climb car is the quickest Zed in Aus, cause I haven't seen any other Zed beat it at any event yet.
  20. No, if you made it the saturday after May the 1st I could be there. I will be in Melbourne to see some old fart shake and swear and bite the head of a pureed bat.....
  21. Aside from the bragging rights does it matter?? Most of the quick cars are cars that can't really race in any recognised championship category due to the mods. My car wasn't the quickest around, but in its day gave a good run for it's money, now days built to 2B rules will be hosed off by haidresser cars with the hairdryer bolted to the engine as I am limited to 40 year ols technology to comply with rules. I took out the 1997 NSW Marque Sports Championship with 150hp less than other Zeds, but on circuits like Amaroo and to an extent Wakefield Park and Oran Park South, the power difference meant nothing. Circuits like Oran Park GP and EC I would be hosed off, but then the great racing adage of "To finish first, first you must finish" comes to the fore. And then, something like Peter Macs old drag car on the strip would hose something set up for circuit, and then something like John Siddon's targa car over a targa event would hose off somethinng built for sprint circuit racing.
  22. Here's the link to the HRCC site with the event info. According to the sup regs will be track configuration E. http://hrcc.org.au/tttday.htm
  23. Some one else has seen the light...... MOPAR or no car!!!!!!!
  24. Looks Good with that spoiler and the ppretty carbon to be added to it.
  25. Simon, my guess would be that that is the free length of 220mm, but if you can measure them, then you will know for sure The spring rate will be lineal for those springs, from the quick glance in the photos. Unless they are progressive rate which is easy to tell by the change in coil rate and also sometimes the diameter of the wire and sometimes a change in the overall coil diameter. When you set everything up, forget what looks fully sick and low, get the car to someone who can corner weight it and properly set up preload on the springs as well as get the ride heights done correctly to work with the other suspension components. This will cost some dollars but will be better bang for your buck than more power. I have no idea who would be the suspension set up gurus down yor way, but talk to some of the guys who race at the front of the field in categories such as Prod Sports and IPRA at full racing meetings, not the sprint day guys as the racers will know who is who in terms of best service and dollars needed and what you will get in return for the outlay. I was always taught, and yet to be disproven, if you want to go faster by seconds a lap spend your budget on suspension, if you want to go faster by tenths then spend it on the engine.
