  1. to add to gav's point above, I did a couple of practice panels before starting, but am starting to realise an entire car is a MUCH larger area
  2. I bought a 1" from Autobarn fairly recently - I've forgotten the part number but they are off a patrol if that helps.
  3. You might be best to bring one across with you Gav? I'm trying to find an ok cheap NA6 mx5 atm, and its proving more difficult than I thought, but I'm also hoping to get one that isn't red which means 95% of the cars are out! People are starting to try and get big money for ones with under 100,000kms, but I don't think they'll get it. NB's seem to be the best value, probably because no one really likes them, and there was an SP that just sold for 14k...
  4. Thanks for the link, more and more friends are getting 86's, and have been offended when I compare them even to my old s15, so I wonder how they'd like this comparison and the conclusion! I know which one I'd prefer to have, but also know which one I'd prefer to have an accident in!
  5. where are you planning on moving to? one question that might be helpful is are you hoping to be able to work on the car in said storage location, or is it just storage?
  6. I've always wondered if they become illegal sometime around 72-73 as all the Australian delivered car's I've seen with them were all quite early. My thought has always been that if its an issue I'll get one of the hot rod ones that clips to the window frame
  7. Looks very nice, I'd be happy if my first zed was like that...

    ITB's

Wouldn't the sound largely be lost from the turbo effectively blocking it? I personally can't identify a gtr vs a gts-t by its intake noise - but they are typically running hectic exhausts
  9. although Canada is a completely different market to Australia... you're best to come along to a zed event and look around the cars there so you can (hopefully) see a nice one and know what they should be like, and make it easier to compare whichever ones come up for sale its a matter of not only what comes up for sale in that time, but how much you're willing to spend and what compromises/changes you're happy to make. ie I bought a clean 260z 2 seater not a 240, kind of wish it was a 240z for the street cred, but all in all
  10. Very nice, does there have to be any consideration for lower octane American petrol, or is that all a lie people tell themselves so we don't feel as bad for paying so much for petrol here?
  11. ...it'll be the same as a 2+2 if that helps you
  12. I work with a guy who has a 58 chev truck, he wouldn't sell it but prob knows people who have similar vintage ones that might be for sale. If you don't care if its LHD why not try to get your dad to bring one over for you?
  13. my car has/had what looks like the same driving lights on it, but mounted on a bar that ran between the bumper mounts. , They fit under there pretty well
  14. Hey Tai, not sure i'm following you, your front flares aren't wide enough, but you only want rear flares? I'm interested in a pair of the 'wider' rear zg flares people in the USA seem to have, if anyone knows of someone selling them in Aus, or is going to bring in a pair anytime within the next year I'd be keen to split postage.
  15. I'd recommend Toperformance in Vermont (koni distributor), although am not really sure on their price compared to other places
  16. If you're planning on running a motor that would benefit from the money dropped into a custom one, I'd go that path as the 200zr sumps are still reasonably expensive (I have one with the correct pickup for sale for $500, and plan to hold onto it if it doesn't sell for that in case I go down that path), but are still just a stock sump with a baffle plate. If modifying a patrol sump won't cost you much to do then I had read its an easy way to get a sump with a higher capacity of oil relatively cheap - as shouldn't rb30 sumps nearly be free?
  17. Fair enough - painting it the s15 pewter grey could be quite fitting.
  18. Good use of the bits you had, looks like it will end up being a nice and clean car. Good work making the rest of our progress look slow too. I completely know what you mean about the low ballers associated with these otherwise awesome vehicles. I have a couple of bits lying around and I can't even be bothered advertising them on silvia sites... Out of curiosity, are you putting the s15 interior into it?
  19. To put things into some context, I bought a 5g 260z 2 seater as my first car...nearly 10 years ago, and in ways wish I'd bought a 10g one as a second car instead, as you get a lot more for your money the more you spend, and will save it in the long run. At the time I looked at a couple of 2-3g 2+2's and BOG is the word that comes to mind. Sure it's fun to have a zed as a first car, but not only are they too nice to use as a daily as don't survive even a light knock very well, but I missed out on the most appropriate time to own a fully sick lowered bogan mobile, as I have a soft spot for VH SLE's... But in all seriousness an mx5 or s13 is probably a wiser/safer choice for a fun, first, 'only car', as its nice to not be dependent on a car you want to play around with. If the car doesn't come with Rego or a RWC there's probably going to be a fair bit of work to get it up and running, so just depends if you're in a rush, as I never enjoy working on my car when there's a time limit involved.
  20. Cheers, I already have one but after seeing that one I'm a bit concerned it doesn't have the clearance bends at the side for fuel lines etc, I'm hoping instead its just a bit shorter. I'm planning to run it with the GM mount, and the lower mount (hence i'm not sure how to guarantee i'll install the mount in exactly the right sport). The TechnoVersions site recommends removing the original mount - is that how most people are running it?
  21. I had different clutch plates put into my LSD to up the break away torque, and had to swap the flanges over for it to match up with the drive shaft. Unfortunately i didn't realize the difference in flanges till I was trying to put the drive shaft bolts back in at the end of the swap over, but at least I'm more efficient at it now. Next on the list in the diff area is to put in the 'ron tyler' brace, I'm still not 100% sure on how to get the alignment correct without having to put the diff in and out a couple of times.
  22. I believe this is a factory 260z colour, and is similar to the sort of 'brown' i was talking about http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/datsun-260z-1974-14427695?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=8&eapi=2&__N=1246%201252%201247%201282%204294966615%204294966410%201216&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=default Goodluck deciding!
  23. i've never seen zg flares on a 280zx - and didn't know there was a 280zgx for there to be flares off? I dont think it would be very difficult to get 240z flares to fit on a 280z, people put them on s13's etc.
  24. Not sure if you're wanting to stick with stock colours, but some of the current euro cars are coming out in really nice brown colours, from red brown's, green browns through to gold browns, could accent and offset the interior quite nicely.
  25. isn't it kind of the reverse of why people in japan like having LHD cars? there's even people with Scion 86's 'just to be different'
