  1. Nope not at all. FPV and HSV are branches of their respective parent companies. This is more like your local performance shop buying a specific car and modifying it to their own specs. Like the Bullet roadster thing some company made based on the Mazda MX-5. Not all Scarabs had the California Z body kit either. Alot of them were stock looking except for the louvered bonnet. They also sold kits and emblems so you could do your own conversion and slap Scarab badges on it.

  3. I thought there was some issue with fitting rear discs and still being eligible for the classic racing classes.?
  4. Some pics in Robs build thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2039.0.html http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2980.msg23670.html Video of the car here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL9iu9XJwfw and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emfw-fNXzbk
  5. Home security doesn't have to cost anything. I have a dedicated computer that's set up to run zoneminder (www.zoneminder.com). It watches the driveway and front door. Cost: 50 cents for the 2 web cams I bought at a swap meet, plus an old p3 800mhz computer I picked up for free. Can be tricky to set up though, if you don't know anything about installing linux While I was away on holidays I also had the home (windows xp) computer running Yawcam. Not the easiest to use program around, but it did the job. There's another one called Dorgem which is easier to use, but less features. You'll need motion detection sensor lights to light up the area for the webcam to see anything, unless its an IR webcam.
  6. You're doing better than me then, ones in parts (still), the other is in one piece, but had a blown engine when I bought it.
  7. If your compliance plate date is 9/73 there's no way it was built in '72. Also, it's not a UK version. UK versions didn't have the under bumper fender indicators. Just the bumper mounted ones. UK regulations meant they had to be a certain height above the ground, or visible from a certain angle (I think the latter), which they aren't when in the fender under the bumper. UK versions got a blank valance panel without the indicator cut-outs. I think it's just a lighting change that happened in '73. As for stories of boat loads of Z being diverted to Aus, I've heard them before, but never seen any proof that actually happened. The stories I hear are trying to account for the perceived the delay from production of 500 HS30's in 1969 to their arrival in Australia in Mid 1970. The 240Z went on sale in September 1970 The truth is that 500 HS30's weren't built in 1969. Most, if not all production (cars ready for sale) HS30's were built in 1970. The 73 boat story does sound more plausible, simply because there was a dock strike in the UK in 1973, but that doesn't take into account the physical differences between the Aussie delivered 73 and the UK delivered 73. Personally, I think its another one of those Z myths.
  8. How many of them drive?
  9. Easiest way to tell the RA from the TA is the lights in the front of the fender where it meets the bumper. TA they are the indicators (orange) and are sloped on an angle. RA they are side lights (Clear) and are vertical. Well, at least that's how I do it. I had an RA28 and my brother had a TA22. Nice Z.
  10. 73's did have above bumper lights like that.
  11. WA 240Z/260Z Club's "Z Day" is on this Sunday for anyone in Perth that might like to wander down and check out some S30 Z's. I haven't been to involved with the club lately so I don't know the details on whats planned, but usually there is a sausage sizzle, with drinks available at the BSRC bar. People usually bring spare parts they might have for sale. Sunday 20th September. 11:00 am to 2:00pm Belmont Sports & Recreation Club, cnr Abernethy & Keane St, Belmont/Cloverdale
  12. Is that price a touch optimistic?
  13. I had to research what TAC is, since its not called that over in WA. It doesn't cover motorsport events, such as the one the WA Z Register participates in at Murdoch Uni Carpark. So if a car was to hit a spectator, TAC would not pay out, and the spectator would have to sue whomever their layer went after for damages (the driver, the club, the event organisers). Which is why the WA Z Register is affiliated with CAMS for the public liability cover they provide. TAC would not cover our show and shine "Z Day", if someone tripped over something and injured themselves. Australians aren't as litigation mad as some other countries, but having a little insurance doesn't hurt. Craig, if you know of any other Z registers around the country, please send me contact details. I don't know of any except the one that is at www.wazregster.com
  14. OK lets clear up this misconception. There is no fee to use the WA Z Register forums, however some parts of the forum are for WA Z Register Club members. The WA Z Register is a real-world, government registered, CAMS affiliated car club. You pay to become a club member, just like other real world car clubs. Membership helps the club keep going, pays for CAMS fees and public liability insurance, and allows the club to put on events like the Track days at Collie, Murdoch Auto test and Z day, and allows the club to participate in other events like the Classic stampede, Albany round the houses, etc etc, which our members would not be allowed to compete in, if they weren't a member of an official car club. I think some people get the wrong impression with the WA Z Register website, and think its like sites such as viczcar.com, thezgarage.com or classiczcars.com etc, and internet car club, whose members sometime get together in the real world. In fact the WA Z Registers website is actually it's a car clubs internet presence. The club formed unofficially before there was a website. The website was put up to allow other WA people to find the club. As a courtesy to the WA Z community, we have a forum on the clubs website. Some of the areas on the forum are for club members only. The club management decided they wanted it that way as an incentive for people to become involved in the club. The reason the forums are not used much, is because most club activities happen in the real world, members get together for meetings, and talk to each other in the real world, not via the forum. Most communication via the internet between club members is vie email, and the email lists. Internet car clubs are great, and have their place. I'm not trying to bag them or anything (I love them, I have wasted countless hours on classiczcars.com), but the WA Z Register isn't one of them. Most of our members just aren't forum type people. We have around 30 registered members, and I only ever see 2 of them post on classiczcars.com, and not very often. I'm not sure if people are aware of this, but if anything unfortunate was to happen on one of the viczcar organized events (or any other internet club cruise), and a member of the public was injured, then the people that run the website and the forum members that organised the event could be sued by the injured people, for organising the event. That's what public liability insurance is for. The WA Z Register were not willing to take that risk, and became an official car club, covered by CAMS public liability insurance. If you want to get out on the track and see what you and your z machine are capable of, then consider joining a registered car club. If you're in WA, then the WA Z Register is one option available to you.
  15. Photos of #4 was also used in the official Datsun press release kit that was issued to the press in September 1970 when the 240Z went on sale here.
  16. No worries. I was supposed to get email reminders when a car is added to the register, but because the last hosting company the site was with were a bunch of (better not say) all the emails stopped working. Now that I think about it, I haven't had an email reminder for at least a year.
  17. Hi Guys. I do run the registry for the WA Z Register car club of WA, when time permits. I've been really busy lately trying to start up a business, and writing alot of software for that, so I've been neglecting the wazregisters website a bit. Along with looking after ozdat.com, I don't have alot of free time. Rest assured that all your cars info is in the database. I've just gone through and made all the new entries visible. It's not a simple process (not as simple as it should be if I had more time to develop the register software more). I agree with Gav, that having 2 registers is not required. If anything ever happened to the wazregister website (the club folded or whatever) I'd still have a copy of the data that I'd happily share with Gav if he wanted to host it here, but untill that happens I don't think 2 registers are necessary. I do have plans to update the register software as time permits, now that the website is on a new host, and things are working again as they should.
  18. Yep, in the JDM there is no ZX, only Z. In Europe however they slapped the ZX badge on everything from sunnies to bluebirds.
  19. Your motorbike has training wheels
  20. Put it up on www.auz31club.com someone there will grab it. It is a manual?
  21. I'm not against the car. I just don't like the way he's written up his ebay advert. It makes him come across as some sort of nutter with an attitude. He either wants to sell the car or he doesn't, and whatever the new owner does with it it not his business once they have handed over the cash.
  22. If it was a Fairlady 240Z then the badges are different. They had Fairlady, without the Z. and 240Z badges. S30/S31 had the same badges I believe.
  23. Depends on what sort of Fairlady Z it was. 2 liter fairlady Z's had Quarter vents: Round Z badges (same as the 240Z) side badge x 2 Side front fenders: Fairlady Z badge x 2 Front bonnet: Z badge x 1. Rear hatch: Fairlady Z badge x 1 and under it was a Nissan badge (in the same arrangement as the Datsun and 240Z badges on Aussie cars). Check this link for an example: http://press.nissan-global.com/COMMON/HERITAGE/database/en_detail.html?075
  24. Would be funny to buy it and put an L26 back in just to annoy the guy.
  25. Anybody posted this one up yet? 260Z with a 2JZ. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120456297919
