Love the wheels on this car.

These belong to a fellow who goes by the alias on classiczcars.com as Kats. I asked him for a write up a while ago on both cars. Might follow that up as they are both superb cars.
  3. Just going off what I've read here, so may not be 100% accurate. I am under the impression though that 260z struts have a slightly lower spring perch and the struts themselves are slightly wider in diameter. I'm sure someone who knows exactly will chime in, but fairly certain from memory that's what I've read.
  4. This is awesome, I envy you. We should definitely do a front page feature on this beast. Starting to look the goods.
  5. Awesome Rev, your getting quite good at this.
  6. Good luck mate, I was about 16 - 17 when I found my first 240z. Long story, but a friend now owns that car and I kinda regret letting it go, but at the time couldn't keep it. That was about 8-9 years back now and finding one was hard but easier and much cheaper too. Like the early rotaries they have shot up in value and desirability. Best of luck, there's a couple on Ebay now.

    Building a L28

Haha, yeah Len is a cool bloke. I love the roll cage in his Z its a work of art. I didn't realise Len was working on Zeds.
  8. I think we can all relate to this. It was looking pretty schmick, hope he's fixed it. Just think back when Eric Bana was playing Poita the Aussie bogan on full frontal he was cruising around in the XB .
  9. I find this quite strange because you see lots of tubbed street legal vehicles. So I wonder how the rules vary on this, as there are many rides out there with far wider wheels than standard and far taller too. Unless of course they are all illegally modified, which I find hard to believe.
  10. I agree with you, I've seen many nice looking examples. But I often question how good condition they are actually in. The right car will come along eventually.
  11. Yeah kinda wish I bought that Z. It looks amazing in that yellow.
  12. Sorry guys, I only know as much as you do. He just contacted me yesterday. Haven't heard back from him yet. I'd say a 2+2 race car is quite rare, compared with the 2 seaters anyway.
  13. Yeah if you are after an RB20 conversion its a good starting point. I personally would rather spend another $5k and get the blue one. Maybe that's just my purist side coming through though. I think I need to increase the value of what I've got mine insured for though. Given the prices of these 3 vehicles.
  14. A few Zeds on www.carsales.com.au http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/DATSUN/240Z/details.aspx?Cr=4&__No=20&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_ImageCount_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime%7c1&__Nne=20&State=All%20States&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__N=4294966615%200%20834%20285%20257%201216&__sid=11CEAF8578E2&state_id=0&Make=DATSUN&R=6267091&trecs=52 http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/DATSUN/260Z/details.aspx?__sid=11CEAF8578E2&Cr=0&__No=0&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_ImageCount_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime%7C1&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__Nne=20&State=All%20States&R=6115254&__N=4294966615%200%20834%20285%20257%201216&Make=DATSUN&state_id=0&trecs=52 http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/DATSUN/240Z/details.aspx?Cr=16&__No=0&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_ImageCount_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime%7c1&__Nne=20&State=All%20States&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__N=4294966615%200%20834%20285%20257%201216&__sid=11CEAF8578E2&state_id=0&Make=DATSUN&R=6329677&trecs=52 Bit of a mixed bag on this one. Blue and white ones look promising. The yellow (mustard) one is a little optimistic price wise though.
  15. Hi Everyone, I was contact today by a fellow Zcar owner. He's understandably shattered that his baby was stolen. If anyone spots a car with the description please contact me or the owner. As sent by the owner: Stolen! Please Help Between 12 am & 6 am on Friday 10th September my red and white Datsun 260Z Race Car red tandem trailer and Burgundy 1995 Toyota surf was stolen from Riviera Street Mentone. I have built this car with little money and my own hands to enjoy a little car club motor sport. We loaded it on the trailer last night for its first outing at an open track day this Friday at Winton in preparation for Sandowns event later in September. To say the least I am shattered and willing to give a reward for any information that assists in the recovery of my pride and joy. Sincerely Richard Park *(mobile number withheld for privacy reasons).

  17. Excellent work Rev, when can I book you in for body work on my Z LOL . That will honestly be one of the cleanest 2+2's around when you are finished.

    Building a L28

Very good points made by Alan. You honestly don't need a bucket of cash to get good results. Just sensible mods. I should have picked up on the head shaving business. Alan is right its not worth the headache. I'm not sure when it comes to using an L28 head on an L26 block (same block as 240z), I know many have done it the other way around. Like my L28 has an early E88 head (same as E31) on it. These heads are excellent for high comp motors as they have a high quench chamber design. Another words you might want to find a closed chamber E88 head to replace your 260z (open chamber E88) there are two version of the E88 so it can be confusing. My E88 had larger valves fitted and a very mild cam wacked into it. Hence the reason I wanted to put Triple and a bigger cam on it, just for a bit of fun . One of the most important things to do is re-graph your electronic distributor. I can say for certain it makes an amazing difference to the way your L-series will rev. Give it plenty of advance .

    Building a L28

Sensible, before I went away overseas I was going to stick triple mikuni's on my existing L28 and considered sticking a lumpier cam in it 74 deg or something. Even though I have an LD28 crank and L14 rods and huge camshaft waiting to be put into a motor. I figure the build will be at least 10k for the kind of L31 I want and I'd rather spend the money on other areas first. This way I could obtain another L28 block, and build it up slowly over a couple of years sinking cash into it every so often, while still enjoying doing other stuff to the car and enjoying the L28 with triples and cam. At least that was my plan and it sounded good to me, but then I realised how much I was spending on the Z and figured I should travel while I'm young still and mortgage free. So that's where I am now . I think your plan to do some mild work to the L26 sounds good though. A rebuild is serious work and if you don't have the cash now you will probably have to skip a few areas so may as well do it over a longer period of time and do exactly what you want. You can get some good power out of a L-series without major work and huge expense.
  20. In the US Zcar value is struggling, due to sheer number imported. 260's in particular are very underrated because they got a bad wrap with the bumpers and 260z carbs. You are right though, you can get some real bargains in the states. Cheapest place in the world to buy an S30 chassis car.
  21. You can buy new chassis rails in the states http://www.baddogparts.com/ or get them fabricated here. I would be interested to know how to resolve this .
  22. Welcome, great to see another member. Looking for a 2 seater or 2+2?
  23. Guys he's from Dublin, Toys r us, kmart, big W, Tas (Tasmania) and Launceston (in Tasmania) well he probably doesn't know where all that is, no offence Ozzy. eBay is probably your best bet for those models. I've got one its ok, but depends if you want original looking car or modded one like those above.
  24. Here I am in London town.
  25. I agree that people should not post information as fact, if they have no experience in the area. However people offering suggestions or theories isn't a problem. I noticed a while ago that Lurch put together a great thread about gearbox compatibility and there were some "suggested boxes" that "might work" posted afterward. I noticed Lurch removed them which is fine. Since we don't want to confuse people with inaccurate information. As I said though we can promote accurate info with the use of stickies / articles etc.. This way the information is more upfront and obvious. Also I could enable forum "karma" which is a setting that allows people to add ratings to posters, this would mean that people who provide relevant accurate information have a status bar that shows up under their name. However I decided against this at first due to the politics of it. I guess this is a discussion for another thread too .
