Craig you are looking at it all wrong. They will be getting 100's of hits on their website after that. If only one of our members got us front page coverage lmao. Note: Not encouraging illegal activity here, merely just taking the piss!

I love the two tone paint jobs. I have been considering painting my 240z silver with the top half in a burgundy metallic red. Hard to explain, but in my head I know the style I'm thinking of. Evan the Z you posted looks great. I agree with Andrew a bit more subtle around the bonnet bulge and it would look really good. I like looking at Hot Rod sites for paint job ideas. http://www.chipfoose.com/gallery.aspx My old 240z has some nice pinstriping down the side of it. I think done correctly it can really offset the style of the car. When and if I get time, I'd like to get into 3D Studio Max or equivelant and using a 240z model try out different paint / rims and spoiler kits to see what looks good on an early S30. Don't know when and if I'll get the time though.

You have my sympathy as a victim of road rage about 5 years ago. Had my window smashed in and a chipped tooth. Turns out the car was stolen a VK Commodore and my mate was filming a drive we were doing in the zed. He must have seen the camera and got paranoid. He started chasing me through several side streets and a few round-abouts, he lost control at one round-about and ended up on the nature strip, hubcaps came off and all. I'll never forget that image, made me laugh. Cops never caught him, although my mate saw him driving a VL Commodore with a broken arm and ice cream lol. Real tough guy I guess. Sounds like the guy in the Ford was hyped up on disco biscuits. I wonder what the S15 guy's story is though. Hope the Zed can be repaired to how it was.

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Problem with Ebay is that their are programs like: http://www.auctionsniper.com/ - need I say anymore. When I got here Christmas Eve I was looking for a cheap acoustic guitar to practice on while I was here (I play in a band in Dublin and wanted to stay in practice), anyway after stuffing around and loosing out at the last second on ebay all the time - I just got fed up. -

That car was a bargain, in my opinion from the photos an excellent buy for the money. I almost feel I should have bought it, since it was so original. Did the owner still have the old L24 motor? -
Jeremy did have lots of praise for the 240z in another episode. In fact he was banging on about how the newer Zcars were not nearly as good as the original concept. He also shows a line up of Zcars drag racing down a runway strip and he comments on how the 350z only just manages to beat a 260z from the 70's.

Hah, don't write him off that early. My great grandfather was driving until his death, he reached 97. The tacky stripes are great. I think there really cool myself. I wouldn't put Superlites on, I would go for Watanabe's or Panasports myself. Nothing wrong with changing the rims to something "period" correct. In fact there are loads of cool period rims out there. Easy, easy and easy. Won't cost you more than a few hundred dollars if you pay someone. Cheaper if you do it yourself too. For some strange reason the 260z's seemed to have more electrical problems than the 240z's. Especially with the gauges. (clock excluded - I don't think they ever worked properly even new!) I would imagine they are a more expensive car to maintain in general. However it would probably be a much more comfortable car for your father, so you would be doing him a favour in a way. Plus you get to enjoy a 260z while you fix up the 240z. Keep one all original and modify the other. I know I'd love to have a pure original as can be 240z and a full on show car for another. Ahhh someday .

That is a clean looking 260z. Tough decision, but if you don't mind the old school trade off's maybe the 260z is the way to go. 2 seaters were quite rare in RS30 form.

Its only in Australia this mentality exists and those who know cars, don't have this attitude anyway. In Ireland for example people have fond memories of the old Datsun's that were once on their roads (they are all but rusted now). In the UK its the same story. If I mention Classic Japanese cars people don't blink an eye overseas. If I mention it here, people think I'm smoking something. I personally love old japanese cars, I think there great fun. If people will think down of you that's their problem. They don't know what they are missing out on.

240 + 260Z Register Suggestion
gav240z replied to 620Z's topic in Website Feedback & Club Discussions
Hi Craig, its a great idea but as David said its already done. I know we probably get more traffic to our site than the WA Z Register so it may be a good idea to have one here too, but at the moment to create this kind of feature I would need to re-invent the wheel. If and when I convert this site to run on the same content management system as www.vintagejdm.com this kind of functionality would honestly take me 10 mins to implement (well maybe a little longer), but it would be very easy to do. Before I can convert this website, I need to understand more about database programming. I could potentially contract somoene to write a script to conver the site, but I'm not sure what it would cost to do so. I guess something for a club discussion another time or at an official meeting etc. -

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..

260z 2 seater in Brisbane. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-Nissan-RS30-260z-2-Seater-240z-240-z-260-z_W0QQitemZ180316730784QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item180316730784&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Item Number: 180316730784 Current Bid: $2,025 Guess it will fetch $6,500 - not sure though. -
Dazzed that's a great idea. Perhaps we should split the topic though? I have my Zed insured for $15K I picked it up in late 2002 for $7.5k but I wouldn't sell it for under $12k despite it needing work. I do think Zed cars are under valued, compare with a Mazda RX3 most are listed around $20-$30K on say www.carsales.com.au I think the Zed was a better car, but I do like the RX3 also. Perhaps we can gather some opinions / values / ebay sales values / car sales values over the course of 6-12 months and pass that data onto Shannons / Unique Car Magazine etc.. That was one of the points of our Ebay thread in the classifieds. We can keep track of current values. On the world market Zeds are relatively cheap in Australia, the US is the cheapest but even over there the right cars fetch good money.

LOL, even Taxi drivers complain about Taxi drivers. Comes with the territory I guess. They have the luxury of not caring about their vehicles. -

I agree I had my car backed into twice within 2 weeks of each other. Both times they damanged the bonnet / bumper and left without leaving a note. It was probably Volvo driving soccer mom's who would come into the video shop where I used to work years back. I parked the car round the back after that. Its a shame it seems the nicer your car is the more people go for it and the worse they drive around / next to you. Problem with a car like the Z is as soon as you give it a squirt for a bit, all the boy racers are magnetised to it and chase after you or want to drive close to you. 10 years back you could still get parts relatively easily but currently its very difficult to find 240z parts in Australia so you need to be careful. -
Keep the Z31 put aircon in and enjoy the fact its slightly more modern. Of course I can't imagine a 3.0ltr VG30 makes a good daily in terms of fuel and the cost of maintaining a relatively old car. Focus on making the 240z a good car and restore it over the long term. Ask your dad to swap for a week or two and see how you like it? Make your mind up after you have been driving it to work for a bit.

The Ebay Thread #2 - Post Ebay Parts Here!
gav240z replied to XRQTR's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
$269 is very cheap for L14 rods. How would you buy them though I would consider it for sure. -
That would be awesome, if you could stick it on Youtube too! But it might be copyright. I think www.ztherapy.com sells DVD's now anyway.

With the SU's replace all gaskets, replace the rubber fuel hoses and make sure the floats are not bent or broken etc.. They are fairly simple carb, so when putting them together the only problems I would imagine are the gaskets. The biggest problem is that the throttle shaft tends to wear out and cause a vacuum leak. Make sure the shaft is nice and firm and free from play. If not sure, maybe ask a carby specialist to have a look. They may need to rebush the shaft. The oil is important as it dampens throttle response and keeps the carbs in sync better. I think sewing machine oil is meant to work nicely, I can't recall the specific weight to use, but if you have a Haynes manual I think it has the recommendation in there. Take your time, give them a good clean out and you should be alright. They are fairly easy to set up provided you have all the right parts with them. You may as suggested consider some new needles since they are probably set up for 2.4 ltr engine and not 2.6ltr, not sure if SM needles will be too rich or not though. Which reminds me, at the end of the needle is a rubberish seat, make sure its not worn out or the car will run way too rich. So might be an idea to replace the seats and needles at the same time. I'm sure an SM needle kit will have this anyway - but just incase they don't I figured I'd mention it. If you can, get them polished too with the manifold, they look the goods then. .

Sounds like a great set up. I would definitely consider running this myself. I find it quite funny though that you worked out how to install this and get it running, yet you took a photo of your computer screen instead of a screen shot .

I've seen some of the guys on Hybridz using this system. I'm sure they would have an image / flash / map of some set ups to get you started. Looks cool plugging the laptop in and setting up the fuel delivery. Could really make a good turbo L28 set up if your willing to put the time and effort in.
