  1. Hi mate, I received the same PM yesterday and assumed it had just gone to me. I replied and encouraged him to say hello in the introduction part of the site and that many of our members would be very happy to hear from him. Quick edit* - I see no reason to doubt it's him. All the IP address can tell me is that it was from a Telstra user and probably someone in Melbourne. However that's not to confirm it is / isn't him. Hopefully he'll say hello soon and you can all pick his brain .
  2. I like the dirty primer look with orange wheels. Reminds me of this Porsche 944 with the orange rims: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaCeALU0muI and this FD RX-7 http://www.motormavens.com/2009/08/webmining-maxpower-marks-fd3s-rx7/
  3. haha, you know you have taken on a big job when someone else who's been doing something similar makes a comment like that. . Truly amazing, in a way I envy you - just because you are getting so much practice that you'll be an expert at restoration after this. Hope you continue to have fun.
  4. Guys I don't know what's going on in Queensland lately, but I hope everyone remains safe.
  5. Yeah I'm guessing within the 5 seconds range. Should be interesting .
  6. Digital Graffiti I guess . Had a bit of fun with this, but most sites just had scribble. I can see loads of room for improvement with this. Could be interesting to see what happens when a celebrity scandal or company is caught out doing something wrong, then checking their website.
  7. Try not driving your Z for 3+ years . I miss mine. My step dad took it out of the garage to start it up before Christmas and sent me the video of it at idle. Man I miss the sound, even he admits he loves the noise it makes when he starts it and he used to get upset and run out in his pj's when I would start it early Sunday morning to tell me off haha. I had to have a sports car so I got an FD RX-7 which is an amazing car, and the only modern car that compares to the 240z in my opinion but there's something about the 240z that's so much more special. I guess I really am a sucker for classic cars. What's weird is because the RX-7 is so original and complete that I almost feel at a loss as to what to do with it. With the Z there is a million little bits and pieces I want to collect to make it original again. I think that's half the run you know. Fixing it up and hunting down all the bits and pieces. The RX-7 turns heads, but not like the 240z would, especially over here in Ireland. When you drive a little girly car, you just become part of the masses, boring! . However on the positive side, you don't worry about where you park it and you don't notice every little scratch, dent or paint imperfection. Sometimes it's nice to just not give a toss about a car . I almost bought an Mazda MX5 but in many cases the RX-7's on the market were cheaper! WTF is with that? I still think the MX-5 is a cool car and was thinking of getting the girlfriend 1 so I could still drive it around and she could learn manual. I see them all the time and think they must be fun especially in summer. Just under powered. I honestly think half the reason people sell their Z's off is that they have been off the road for so long that people forget how much fun they are. I think when you own a car like a Z, you need to do it justice and get it out on the road and just enjoy it. Even if it's raining, people enjoy seeing a classic out and about.
  8. Hi there mate, Yes definitely still looking for feature cars and it's about time I updated the homepage. I usually select 6 photos (because that's how many have been used in previous features). However I might be able to squeeze more in - I just have to check I haven't hard coded the number of photos to be included. Your car looks immaculate so would be very happy to have it grace our front page. I have a form for submitting car details, but if you prefer to just email the details I can give you my email address. gavindoolan "at" gmail.com

Please don't drive this in the rain . Seriously if my Z looked that clean underneath I don't know if I could drive it in the wet.
  10. This topic has been moved to General Maintenance. [iurl]http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=8408.0[/iurl]
  11. This recent thread http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,8324.msg81607/topicseen.html got me thinking about a collaborative way of storing information about where to find and source parts and what prices they should be listed at. 1 way we can do this is via a shared Google Spreadsheet. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AvtGt5V5rGDVdDdoRkxsdGNueGtqTjNGYkgzQVlaanc&hl=en In order to be able to edit the Spreadsheet you need to do 2 things: 1. Have a Google account. If you already use gmail or another Google product you will probably have 1 already. 2. Join the Auszcar Google Group. This gives you edit rights to the spreadsheet. http://groups.google.com/group/auszcar Add whatever part numbers you have and other details as applicable. I might make this a separate post depending on how popular the idea is. Post is now separate. I need your help putting all this information together. A quick Google search of Auszcar.com reveals many threads with part no's listed in them. I want to try and put them into this spreadsheet for future reference. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=site:www.viczcar.com+part+no. What do you guys think?
  12. To be honest you would know the market much better than I, I've not had to sell a Z in 10 years. I guess it depends on what the buyer is looking for a collector car or something they can drive and enjoy. I'd say most people looking for a Z are simply after something they can enjoy as oppose to an investment. Very good points and to be honest I am forgetting the cost of acquiring a car now. You can't find a rust free 240 / 260 anymore for chump change. I bought my 240z about 8-9 years ago for 7,000 AU and if I had to put it on the market now I would definitely list it around 15k even though I would be the first to admit it needs a little TLC in areas. I am also forgetting the cost to build such a car, even if you have the skills you need the tools and quality tools are damn expensive. I know because I recently bought an FD RX-7 and since I now live in Dublin I don't have all the tools I used to have at my old folks place. That collection of tools was built up over many years, some were my fathers tools and some were my step dad's and I never really considered how lucky I was to have access to said tools. I now have to start the collection all over again. So yes to build such a car as this 3.1ltr 260z I'd say you would need a good stack of cash. Not to mention time. It took me several years of searching to find 12 L14 rods and the LD28 crank is not cheap to get in Australia. That's before machine costs.
  13. Happy Australia Day Rev
  14. Didn't the 432-R's have different body pressings like the Works cars such as BIG SAM? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=7677.0 As in stronger around structural areas, but lighter everywhere else? I've seen pictures of BIG SAM and the rear trunk area pressings are definitely not the same as a normal S30. There is some details here: http://zhome.com/History/432Z.htm
  15. Welcome Boomer, I am in Dublin myself. Nice 240z you had there. I like the JDM front lip and light covers.
  16. On the plus side mate, you've got the rare blue on blue (interior / exterior) combination. Looks very original also, if you can take care of the rust she should come up a treat.
  17. Hey welcome aboard, I just want to say that Zeddophile has given some great advice. Let me just say as a 17 year old myself about 10 years back I bought my first Z. I have absolutely no regrets but hindsight is a great thing and if I would do it all again, I perhaps would have bought a cheap run about like a Pulsar or Corolla and abused that whilst working on the Z in a garage at my own pace. It's good that you won't rely on the Z, because trust me anything this old is probably going to need lots of love and have more than a few things go wrong with it. It's not that they are not reliable, far from it. The problem is mainly previous owners neglect and botched jobs. May I suggest if you don't need a Z for a while, saving as much as you can and buying a good clean honest example. As others have pointed out the rust in the sills will be costly to repair and the driveshaft could indicate the car has undergone some abuse (burnouts anyone?) I've never broken a drive shaft in a Z myself, but doing burnouts will definitely do it. It could also be a case of simple neglect and the uni joint just gave up, but without more pictures it's hard to tell. If I can offer good advice here it's buy a Z based on a tidy rust free body. If the motor is blown up you can rebuild it and have a lot of fun in the process. If she's a rust bucket it's going to cost you a lot of cash and do your head in, unless you are willing to buy a welder and give cutting out rust a shot. Finally (I must be getting old), but while at Uni, maybe spend the money on beer and chicks and forget about restoring an old car until your in your late 20's have a g/f and need a hobby haha. However I have fond memories of being broke and fixing up my old Datsun whilst at Uni.
  18. I missed out on my nuts! I could have got them sent to my old folks place. But good to know they went to a good home all the same. I don't currently need them. However I would like to see if others have found suitable replacements. @Gongz that kit looks the business, did you end up ordering it?
  19. Dude I love the Z, but 35k is a lot of cash for a 260z. I'm not saying it isn't worth it, but perhaps you need to realise that you are going to have to wait for the right buyer. I would almost say that if it was a 240z people would be more inclined to part with the cash, since 240z's generally hold more value. Although as we all know the differences are not really that big and a 260z is just as good a car, if not better than the 240z once modified. You may want to try Shannon's auctions to see what bidding will go up to? To be honest you can't build a car like that with much change out of 35k. Perhaps you should look at offering the car to the UK? 240z's sell quickly over there. Try www.pistonheads.co.uk I would also put a video of the car up, maybe stick it on youtube so people can see what a proper L28 can do in such a car. I think people don't realise just how light the old S30's are and you don't need 500 million HP in 1 to go fast. Anyway good luck with it, personally I'm not a huge fan of the side skirts or painted rear bumper but that's just me. The rest looks great.

    WANT TO BUY 240z

    Epic Engrish thread here.... http://www.engrish.com/
  21. Hey Shan, The NON-EGR F.I manifold, did you have to import that from the US or was there a local version of it? I much prefer the look of the simplistic manifold. The good thing about SU's is that they are fairly simple and polish up real good. However you don't get the smoothness of the F.I. Good work.
  22. Not sure mate, I am not involved with Gmail accounts but if you have trouble let me know and I can try and get someone to take a look.
  23. Just to clarify guys, these emails are being sent via your personal email addresses and not via the PM system correct?
  24. Updated to donating member status, thanks.
  25. Seems like a valid topic to me. I would be interested in knowing more, but $170 for a water pump is damn expensive. When a std L28 one is about $50 from memory.
