Would you buy this if u had 75k+ to spend on a car
gav240z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in General Discussions
I don't know if I should laugh or cry, a friend of mine I met travelling has asked me to let him know if I find any 2 seater Z's for sale at 10-11k says he'll buy it right away. I said mate everyone wants 1 for that price. Those days are gone, unless you can find a bargain before it's listed on a public website, it will be gone within a couple of hours. In fairness a 80s Cabrio 911 is probably my least favorite, I'm guessing it's the same for a lot of people. If the point is to be unique, C10 GTR replica all the way . 930 turbo is an awesome machine, love the shape of that era. Although feels a lot less special inside for some reason. I don't like driving position that much. If you are really thinking of a Porsche I could try and look over this side of the world for you? They seem to be a lot cheaper over here than in Australia and if it's old enough no import duty. -

Your not buying it for build quality, you're buying it because of what it represents for people. That's why those cars command those prices. Again with the E-type I know, but in my opinion the 240z is a better car in so many ways, but people love the E-type and will pay good money for what it represents, even if they are bloody unreliable, I do have to admit they have grown on me over the last couple of years. Not sure I'd ever want the headache of owning 1 though. Agree it's a Nissan not a Datsun! It's like Lexus to Toyota, well that's what their marketing department wants you to believe hehe. An S20 is great, but it's not a power house, I would love a Hemi Cuda if not for anything else but the sheer insanity of it! Sometimes replica's are better from an enjoyment point of view, you don't have to be so careful with it and can use it like any regular car. You're not preserving it's virginity haha. So a replica GTR would be just as good in many ways. -

+1 to this, couldn't agree more. . I agree mate, I don't want to buy 1 as an old fart either. My g/f said if she saw me in an 80s era 911 she said it would look like I cheat on my wife hahaha. I guess it goes with the territory but for me it's about the driving experience and that Magnus Walker video really made me want a 911. Whilst I agree I think this can only last so long. I don't think they will reach E-type values but Zs will have to increase in value eventually. Still very under appreciated, which always makes me sad, but then again if they weren't I'd never had been able to afford 1 and probably wouldn't have 1 now. Why? Because rotary! I love them because it annoys people . -

Look at the price of E-type Jaguars right now, for the right model. A series I convertible I've seen them listed at $150,000 + AU which is not bad considering I've seen many in the UK for the same price in pounds! Why do I mention this? Well a few years back 8-10 or so ago, they were a lot cheaper than they are now. They have skyrocketed in value! The right Datsun / Nissan like a 432 or Hakosuka will be worth the right money in another 5-10 years. They are getting more and more sought after, so I wouldn't let the marquee thing play too much on your mind, although it is important if you want it to retain value. If you really want a Porsche I can and do understand it. I must say I like the 993(911) but I couldn't buy 1 myself. Too much money and I prefer the FD RX-7 which beat them in Australia back in the day. . So I went with the competitor car instead, plus it was cheaper. The Porsche (in Europe) seems to have retained much more value though.... As you mentioned the Toyota 2000GT is worth good money now, have you ever seen 1 driving on Australian roads? How many Hakosuka's have you seen? If you get something unique like that you'll certainly get good value out of it I think! A 432 suffers from the fact that it just looks like another S30 to the uninitiated but so do so many other special editions for other makes etc.. If you are considering a Replica buy a cheap C10 and fix it up yourself with your skills you should be able to buy the car, and possibly do it all for under 70K and you'll know it was done right! -
Hey mate, Let me know a price for the door trims definitely want them, I can see they have a couple of scuff marks that's ok and the chrome trim is missing or it's been coloured? - The strip that runs along the top of the door right? Also interested in the chrome headlight trims but will wait to see what they are like complete w/plastic . Very rare to find item! No rush for me so all good.

How about New Zealand that might make things easier? Ask Nzeder for help or leads he has had a couple I think.

Hi matey, Interested in the following pending pictures. 1. Door trim in reasonable condition have been redyed to black were butternut. Make an offer 18. Chrome s30z genuine headlight rings $400 no glass with glass $600, #18 - I assume you mean plastic? Those covers are not made of glass are they? Do you have the diamond vinyl interior pattern that goes on trans tunnel, rear shock towers, behind cargo area storage bins etc..? Also been chasing these for ages: 1. 240z gear knob (OEM 1) 2. 240z drivers door mirror (OEM)

Yeah awesome sauce. Think I need to move to Japan.

Awesome work on the Z Rev, it's a shame it's the first time I've seen it this complete. Loving the colour and top work on the trophy, I didn't even know we had such a cool trophy to give out at the BBQs.

Hey Guys, Quick question, a couple of years back I bought 2 domains that I've been renewing and now they are about to expire. I am thinking of letting them go but wanted to get your opinions on if you think they are worth anything? The domain names are: carbonmotorsport.com insidemotorsport.com It seems selling domain names is more complicated than first thought. At least through GoDaddy.com it is. So keep em' or let em' go? Do you know anyone interested in buying them? I personally thought they were good names, but sometimes in life you just have to let things go and move on.

Well I'm on the Euro side of the world and those cars are cheap here perhaps I can help source bits? Although I imagine they have all but rotted here. The other problem is size of parts impacts shipping so small parts would be OK but anything big would be expensive.
-
That's a pretty cool little car, stick a rotary in it - J/K . No seriously I'm surprised they are worth so little. That could be a cool little car to take out on special occasions I would think.

Rudolfs 2+2: The gleaming emerald......

I know you can probably see all the imperfections but it looks good with that paint job in the photos. At least it looks like an honest original example. With regard to the door locks, you can't lock the doors before you close them. So when my passenger gets out I lock their door then get out of my door and use the key to lock it. Hope you enjoyed the drive despite the problems. -
They managed to salvage the OEM door jamb sticker. You can see I sourced some OEM rear spats at the last minute. Should help protect paint from stone chips etc.. Look Mum no more door dents!. Aftermarket windscreen seal... Rear hatch seal also aftermarket, cleaner than OEM Couple of interior shots, since they did some detailing. Rear storage bins instead of the seats lots of JDM cars have. Showing off the SSR integral GT1 wheels Girlfriend says, I'm hungry no more photos. (it was like 3pm) I like the OEM style exhaust, much nicer than those weapon of mass destruction type RPG things. Rear view mirror broken when removing for repaint. Sourcing another. Girlfriend still hungry. No front badge yet, thinking red efini badge would look ducks nuts on Silver. You can see roof was completely pulled out and smoothed nicely, no more damage here. Check out that shine. It was previously dented after some low life jumped on it.

Here is a short walk around video I took on Saturday, really shows off the paintwork and detailing work they did on it. I'm really glad I went the full respray on it, it really does look like a new car. People over here don't tend to look after cars the same way they do in Australia so this is going to blow people's minds to see a 95 model car looking like this. Also really like the facelift of the later model FD's just works really well, as well as fixes lots of cooling issues (although I haven't strictly converted all parts to 99 spec yet I will be doing that gradually). I'm also glad I went with the original paint colour, it looked a bit bland before - however it's come up a treat and gives the car real class, not a fan of the boy racer colours you see like orange and fluro green etc.. What I like most though is looking around the car you can't really tell it's not the original paint, since all the door jambs and the like match well and no evidence of overspray. So they have done a fantastic job. Only problem now is the engine bay looks a bit tired compared to the rest of the car, but that's the next project I guess. I have the rare optional Recaro's (RZ's) to go in soon also, but first I have to engineer the car (since it was a category c write off) and get it through NCT (like road worthy test) and then she can be taxed and insured.

Agno is right, 12 months minimum there is also several other requirements, I've had this car for around 2.5 years so I should be fine in that regard. The 1 thing I'm not sure about is how modified the car can be, so for now I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible, but would really like to open it up in terms of breathing mods, exhaust, intercooler / retune. More info on the scheme is here: http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/import_options/pis.aspx

Thanks mate, yeah it still blows me away how much HP you can squeeze out of them. They are unreal in terms of the way they delivery power, I must say driving 1 is a very special feeling. It certainly isn't a v8 which in some ways would be an awesome swap but even standard power levels are immense. I find lots of negative comments about rotary's on the internet, but most of it is just recycled nonsense from people who have never actually owned 1. I can understand some people have had negative experiences but too many 'specialist' shops don't properly build them, hence they blow up / die etc..

Before After Transition Stage Today! Still some tidying up to do, but overall very happy with what I've seen so far. Going to go look at it in person tomorrow.

Found this today on a random Youtube adventure and I found the ending quite funny.

LOL at the way the intercooler assembly moves followed by massive compressor surge haha.

Quick update for now. I didn't intend to take it this far in terms of doing a resto on an FD (that's what the 240z was for) but I'm glad I went full respray now. Think it's going to look amazeballs!
