No they are a fixed bucket design and there are not rails on them. I can't give away anything more without taking a picture and posting it and I I think it will be better if it's a surprise when Mark installs them .

I'm pretty sure dash mounts are different in all 260z body types, because the dashboard style was different to the 240z. Interior wise I'm not 100% certain other than the trim looked a bit different over the years, the gauges changed later on and as Dimitri said the wiring was different, so a later 260z tach doesn't plug right into an earlier 260z loom for example. But all the dimensions of parts should be the same.

Restoration Techniques....Plastic Chrome Re-plating.
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in General Discussions
Yeah it looks pretty straight forward, I wonder how many Zeds you could do with 1 kit? The only thing that isn't clear to me is if you need to do some kind of prep work or prep paint first? I mean other than clean it and remove grease etc.. is there a specific primer that allows it to bond? I think I'll definitely give it a go, I've seen OEM parts listed on eBay that are plastic chrome plated selling for $150 - $200 sometimes. -
That's what I was thinking also. Thanks for the advice.
-
I would actually be interested to see if they look the same on the back? See if they are indeed manufactured different to the later consoles which are made of ABS plastic?
-
Ok sounds like a plan mate. I saw some boxes at work today that might fit a seat each depending on their orientation but I'll need to measure them as it would be a very tight fit..
-
I'm thinking the early consoles were different to the way they formed the later ones. Perhaps Alan (HS30-H) would be able to shed light on that? It certainly seems original to the rest of the car. I can always try repairing it and if it doesn't work out no big deal. Still in the same place I started. What makes you think it would a lost cause - based on your experience working with these materials?
-
Ok thanks mate, chasing a vented rear hatch for my early car so I'll pass on that, I'm sure someone here will find a use for it though. All the best with the rebuild (house that is).
-
Sad to see, is the rear tail gate the early style with the vents in the hatch or later style without? I'm guessing the roof on this would be toast after fire went through it and the strength of the metal would be destroyed by it also?

Hi John, Thanks for the feedback, your modification looks seamless. Good work. Here are some reference photos of what I'm up against. 1. The rear side of the early console looks like it is a form of fibreglass as opposed to plastic? But maybe this is just a result of the mould used to make these? 2. The worst of the damage is in the middle of the console, although it's not actually cracked into multiple parts it's missing a few minor chunks. 3. Worst of it is here. 4. Around all the top edges we have these hairlines cracks. 5. More cracks. 6. Minor damage to screw hole on left - due to rusted in screw. You can see I wasn't able to dremel a new head onto the bolt because it's a countersunk hole / screw so I would have chewed up the console. Thankfully once installed again you won't see this anyway. 7. Under the gear boot there is a chipped section which won't be seen when it's installed but I'd like to fix it up. So it doesn't crack further. So far I've stripped the console of everything and have given it a soapy wash with dishwashing liquid. Here is what I'm thinking... I have an old speaker cover which appears to be made of the same ABS plastic. I'll use that as my donor piece to fill in the major gaps around the cracks and use a putty knife to help shape it, I've got a couple of old soldering iron's I can sacrifice also. I'll use the flexible bumper repair epoxy on the hairline cracks. Then fibreglass on the underside to help strengthen the piece or around the gear boot crack. Since this isn't really a flexible part and the underside in particular won't be exposed to much heat I don't think it should cause any issues. Then I'll rub it down with sand-paper and find a textured spray paint to go over the entire console. That's the plan anyway. Now to find a store that has the products in Australia. Will try Bunnings tonight.

So I just realised we don't really have a category on the forum for hints and tips and processes to help with restoration work etc.. but while looking up plastic chrome re-plating I came across this video from Jay Leno garage. Which shows a non-toxic spray that can be used to reproduce those Chrome trim pieces found on things like the rear light dressing, the door cards, the heater panel, the air vents in the dash etc.. on the S30Z. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-1cTpSZ1l8 Pretty cool stuff and what looks like a great finish.

The Ebay Thread #2 - Post Ebay Parts Here!
gav240z replied to XRQTR's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
This guy has 2 L28's for sale. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mulbring/wrecking/mq-patrols-x-2-wrecking/1036027308 1 has blown a head gasket and is washed out between 5&6 cylinders. So will need resurfacing. The other is running but he said it has a timing issue, suspects carb or distributor issue. Both engines are F54 / N42 combo's he quoted me $150 for a long motor. I was going to take a punt on the running motor but at this stage I might stick with the original plan and rebuild my L28. Posting it here so someone can potentially grab a bargain. -

From the photos it looks like these are 240z Hitachi SU carbs. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/crestmead/engine-engine-parts-transmission/twin-su-carbies-manifold-linkages-/1036694319 For anyone looking... -
recaro pole position x2 with recaro side mounts
gav240z replied to mossy's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
They will definitely compliment the interior you already have with the 'compe' wheel etc.. I was tempted to mock them up in the Safari car just to see how it will look. -
Hi mate, I'll see what I can find - will see if I can get a used box from somewhere like Harvey Norman etc..if not we can look at giving it a massive layer of bubble wrap or similar. I'll also check if there is any old boxes here at work, sometimes we get deliveries where large boxes are used.

1977 260Z 2+2 All original: 31,000 km Z-time travel!
gav240z replied to Gen's topic in Cars For Sale
Nice car, certainly rare to see a 2+2 in that condition. I didn't realise 260z wheels came in that bronze shade. Bone interior with red exterior is awesome combo. Good luck with the sale. -
OK thanks just curious because my current bonnet is a bit mangled and I am thinking of doing a flat black 1 like the 432R would have.
-
What do the fibreglass ones go for price wise?
-
I did get a haircut yesterday.
-
All yours mate, I'll box it up. To think I was almost gonna turf it, but I figured someone would have use for it and like I said it's actually been well put together so will make a good template if you decide to go that way.
-
Not last night, but right now on SBS One I'm watching a documentary called Microtopia. Which looks at different ways people have created their own place to live or call home and alternative living styles. I love this sort of thing, but then again I'm a bit of a hippy to be honest.

Carpet kit for 240z and early 260z 2 seater coupe. - Price $50 or web hosting donation. This is out of my Safari Gold 240z, which has been sitting since 95. There was no rats or other infestation in the car, but like the rest of the interior it smells a bit old and could certainly use dry cleaning / carpet shampoo etc.. It won't fit a later 260z with the bigger rear strut towers, but the rest of the kit would still work. It comes with transmission tunnel carpet, rear storage box / luggage area cover, strut tower / wheel well covers. This was actually a well made and put together trim kit, and could be cleaned up and reused or use it as a template to make your own brand new set. I did manage to remove it without tearing or ripping it, so it is complete.

WTB: 240/ 260 early doors, unvented bonnet and fender mirrors
gav240z replied to DreamZproject's topic in Wanted
Awesome mate, glad to hear you went for a proper set. I think in the end you'll be glad you got the correct pair. My moto is if you really want something it's better to pay the premium for what you really want, than to settle for something else. Everytime I don't take my own advice I end up buying twice. -
Just wanted to bump this thread up again. I recently removed the early centre console from my Z and it has many splinter / hairline type cracks in it presumably from UV damage. I'm interested in plastic welding techniques to fill these cracks, has anyone had any luck with this technique? I read about making your own for of ABS plastic weld here: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=472727 I figure it is worth sharing some of the links I found after looking into this topic also. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/98984-cracked-center-console-help/ http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/34894-refurbishing-center-console.html http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/members/psdenno-albums-console-repair-picture42871-true-value-paint-epoxy-putty-fix-outside-reinforce-fiberglass-inside-stop-stress-cracks.html http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/members/psdenno-albums-console-repair-picture42872-use-silver-sharpie-pen-restore-silver-trim-choke-panel.html In particular I am looking at doing something similar to this. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/34894-refurbishing-center-console.html#post349628
