  1. Mainly because the forum doesn't natively support the embed tags for Youtube. I'd say it should be easy to do once we migrate to the new software though.
  2. Haha, I was going to take a photo of it, but will try next week. Provided I don't make a mess of things, but that's all part of the learning process I guess.
  3. An argument for Triple carbs, even on a stock L24 it sounds awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5pugKaYAXQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjHP87vqohA Seems to be a special in Japan selling Mikuni parts. http://www.gl2007.com/usa_kyusha.html
  4. For some reason I can't imagine smoking in the back of a 2+2.
  5. I'll take the other 1 mate. Mine is fogged up. I will cover postage just let me know how much? George I wonder if that is a temporary issue. Will need to find an iOS device to test it out. Thanks for letting me know.

  7. By the way I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread, but Mark is the guy who was running last nights class. His business is here: http://natolipanelcreations.com.au/ He also does Youtube videos: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8EF5GgqJK0ZnQaFd_ur8gw
  8. Similar concept to this, but I would prefer RWD like the Honda has . A friend of mine's grandmother used to own a 1975 Honda Civic like this: http://image.motortrend.com/f/classic/roadtests/12q2_1975_honda_civic_cvcc_1979_wagon/42652786/1975-Honda-Civic-CVCC-side-in-motion.jpg It was so light that 1 morning she came out and someone had tipped the car on it's side. Would be a perfect car for this type of conversion.
  9. By the way do you mean the clips on the underside for the hazard switch and parker lights? The plastic tabs? Also what are the grubs? Are they the small screws that fasten it to the choke / throttle plate?
  10. So just an update for those who are considering doing this course in future. Today I took a piece of sheet metal, cut it out into the shape of a motorcycle gas tank and then proceeded to beat it into shape, giving it a 3 dimensional feel. I used the English wheel, hammer and dolly mostly. I actually had trouble using the tin-snips - seems funny but it's hard to cut the metal with them unless you use the appropriate technique. Anyway the piece I created is looking quite good, or at least I'm happy with the way it looks all things considered and given it's my first go. The others in the class seemed to get it quite quick and seemed a bit more used to using their hands than I. I felt a bit like the slower 1, that's what working in an office will do for you though. But overall it was a good experience and it does make the road ahead feel less daunting. It is only the first week though so I don't want to speak too soon, but I'm glad I'm doing this now and even re-evaluating if I'll even buy patch panels from the likes of rare spares etc.. seems it might be better to make some of these things from scratch like door skins, roofs and even floors, but let's see how we go!
  11. Interior looks better, good work. it's amazing what tidying up the interior can do for the feel of a car. Since you spend all your time on the inside it really makes a difference to have it looking it's best.
  12. Awesome sauce Dimitri - PM me what you want for that lot? As a side note I have been reading US based threads, it seems they had to remove the hand throttle in the US so many cars had them removed before being sold. Which makes the hand throttle knob quite rare, hence hard to find on eBay. It seems some cars made it through without them being removed, but the cable was cut to disable it from doing anything. Just something I thought was interesting.
  13. 1 option for you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-260Z-Jack-Tool-Box-Storage-Compartment-Lids-Doors-Cover-NICE-OEM-/171238640773
  14. No rush mate. I know it has been stinking hot in Melbourne.
  15. Bump - for those who said they have the parts. Just a gentle reminder.

Dunno that dash is pretty normal in terms of it's shaggyness . HKSZ on here started from the same place as you really and it turned out alright. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/20818-240z-dash-removal.html#post177528 Alternatively you can go to Dashboard Doctor in Melbourne. http://dashboarddoctor.com.au/ He quoted my 240z dash around the $550 mark but it has significantly less cracks and canyons than yours, also you have to factor in insurance, shipping and waiting for it to be done. I reakon for $70 in materials it's worth a shot, if it doesn't turn out all Dashboard Doctor tends to do is fill the cracks and lay a new plastic vinyl cover over the old dashboard which is heat formed to the shape of the Z dash. The downside is your gauges are harder to fit. To see the resto process view this. http://www.uniquecarsmag.com.au/news-and-reviews/article/articleid/61774.aspx Also check this thread out. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,1618.msg145078.html#msg145078 For me I'm going to give the DIY approach a shot, then if it looks like dogs bollocks I'll get it professionally done. FYI: My other 240z has a reskinned dash, it looks nice, has 1 or 2 minor imperfections in the vinyl cover - I only notice because it's my car. But the gauges don't quite fit as well and the previous owner cracked the plastic bezel that goes around the clock gauge trying to refit it because it was so tight, again only something I notice but I'll eventually try and fix that later. So for me even the professional approach has it's own compromises. Next time I'm in Melbourne I'll take photos so people can make their own judgement, hopefully I'll also have attempted the DIY approach by then also so can do a good comparison photo of both methods.
  17. Please send us some photos of what the car looks like so we can share this and hopefully track it down.
  18. The same thing happened on FDRX7.com recently a long list of RX-7s were being stolen 1 after the other. I'm not sure what the game is here, but my fear is that the car are not being sold locally or stripped for parts to be sold locally, but actually being exported out of the country! I really hope it shows up, I would be very sad to see it trashed or burnt out. Any car stolen is a PITA but replacing a classic 40 year old car is not easy to do.
  19. Actually they moved me to the Wednesday night class due to the first 1 being a bit over booked as some more experienced folks decided to return. So they have 2 groups now. I assume I'm in the newbie group. I'll let you know how it goes after tonight.
  20. So it's true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law I don't have a matching number L24 for my Safari Gold car, so I'm stuck with a slow stroker motor also . In fairness I'd do the flares also but I just don't have big enough kahuna's to actually chop up the guards to fit them out properly. I was of course taking the mickey, as I'm sure you are too. The OP wants to stay legal, look cool and have some decent looking size wheels, hence I think the compromise is the requirement of flares, you don't need them to have a cool Z. As Mark (Mossy's) car shows.
  21. Just get a set of Black Watanabe wheels that fill out the stock guards nicely. Job done. No hassle from the fuzz. In 10 years time everyone is going to be removing flares like we remove sunroofs from the 80s. Seemed like a good idea at the time. If you still want Flares in a year or 2 sell me your Watanabe wheels at a good price and I'll gladly buy them. So you can butcher your guards .

Still can't get over how good this car looks. All the best to the new owner.
  23. I got lucky with car #150 - the seller had people offering him more money for the car but he said it will sell for what it sells on eBay and let the auction run it's course. After it was finished a couple of people called him to see if they could offer more or check it was actually sold. He could of sold it for more, but he did the right thing and sold it for it's auction price. It does kinda suck that he said he would run the auction and didn't. Although as a seller if someone rolled up with cash in hand and said I'll offer you this much and it's sold then and there I'd be tempted also.
  24. Bit of a long shot, but is anyone heading from QLD down to Sydney? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/south-toowoomba/other-parts-accessories/datsun-260z-2-2-dash/1038369429 I am looking at this cracked dash as a practice dash for DIY dashboard repair. Before attempting it on my 240z dash. It looks pretty toasted so would make a good practice part. I will have no use for it once it's finished. PS: I think I spy an early 240z console next to it also

On the 2 seaters I'm not sure, on the 4 seaters they are different. In fact I've never owned a 260z 2 seater (only 240z and 260z 2+2), hence I can't say. I dunno about you, but working with the cable handbrake and rear drums is 1 of the things I enjoy least about working on Z's. My next small task is to restore / refurb the original steering wheel. It's a small job but it will lift the look of the interior 100%. I like doing the small things as it's easy to accomplish it over a couple of days and the materials cost is low. With regard to your dashboard why don't you give restoring it a go yourself? Seems you can achieve good results without having to do the full re-skin - which is about $550+ to get it fully re-skinned.
