  1. Matsuo-San said he preferred the slat style grille the export markets received if I'm not mistaken? I seem to recall seeing a video where he mentions not liking the domestic market version as much. Grass is always greener I suppose.
  2. This is what worries me, I'd be so heart broken to have my Z stolen after 11 years of ownership. To think all that time it was safe and looked after and then whisked away by someone like that would made me so mad. Personally I don't understand it, if i stole like a Ferrari GTO or something uber rare and special I wouldn't enjoy it when I took it out, as I wouldn't feel like I've earned it... But I guess I'll never understand the mentality of people who do stuff like this. I really hope the OP gets it back.
  3. Sad times indeed.
  4. Good to see you back mate, the 2+2 was looking good with flares etc.. Glad to hear the 240zg project is still on the go. Shame about selling the other stuff, but I feel overwhelmed with 1 project car . Don't know how you do it.
  5. Guy and his roadster.
  6. Nice find, I particularly like the idea of the repo radio face and knobs. You could fit a modern head unit with MP3 / Bluetooth / whatever while retaining the OEM look. It's awesome to see this stuff become available. Must be demand for it!
  7. By the way mate, let me know if you have the dashboard center fascia (the heater control panel)? Mine was cut at the bottom to fit a super cool cassette deck in the 80s.
  8. This might be of interest. http://www.caswellplating.com/electroplating-anodizing/zinc-plating-kits.html Since old school cad plating is apparently quite toxic.
  9. For the bonnet I would cadmium plate them like factory. For the doors I believe they were painted, but can't confirm 100%? I was contemplating getting a Cadmium plating kit to do several items on the Z, horns, bonnet latch, under bonnet inspection lamp, carb linkages etc..but I've no experience with a DIY kit.
  10. Good pics Evan, as far as I'm aware though no AUDM cars had the mesh grille, only JDM cars. So it must have been retro fitted. By the way was it center road wreckers? I seem to recall a baby blue 2+2 with a mesh grille in there at some point.
  11. George I missed out on the main stuff I wanted also - gotta be quick around here I'm afraid. PS: I cc'd you on an email for an early center console with throttle knob. Hope you got it?
  12. I think the board is a little warped due to moisture. These parts are at my folks place in Melbourne so I can't easily get you photos at the moment. The car spent the last 11 years living in my parents garage and before that it was garaged by previous owner who did the lovely trim job on it haha. Their not perfect but could be used to make a new template? I think the backing material is Masonite? The console could be plastic welded and fiberglassed on rear. I ended up buying a good second hand console from the US. I never throw anything out as a rule these days. If you want to call me 0434 520 498. Not sure when I'll be in Melbourne again yet. PS your car is coming along great! I remember what she looked like before.
  13. I'm guessing you're not rushed to sell? Take no less than 10k in my opinion. But that is just my perception on the value of such things. But on the flip side there is still lots of work to do / undo depending on what someone wants to do with it. Did it have the original block when you bought it? If so where did it get to? Would be worth reuniting them for sale. As it will then have more appeal to a collector looking to restore to original etc..
  14. RE #1 and #2. Let me know if these interest you? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13725.msg144441.html#msg144441
  15. When I read this, I thought of this...
  16. Oi where was my invite to this exclusive boy's club? haha I was busy doing the god damn gardening anyway . Man I hate my lawn , no work on 240z .
  17. I'll send a PM also, but I think George has beat me to the good stuff... *shakes fist!*
  18. I can vouch for these guys if you decide to export. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13761.0.html
  19. 71 240z, looking for expression of interest. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/balcatta/cars-vans-utes/1971-datsun-240z-coupe/1039079014 No photos yet, listed at $33k.
  20. 260z 2 seater in W.A needs work. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/applecross/cars-vans-utes/1975-datsun-260z-coupe-rolling-shell-/1038989400 Only has photo from 2005. Asking $6k
  21. Order the Ztherapy SU video it is 1 of the best videos there is and I can highly recommend it as I have a copy. The float could cause issues, but so could the needle and seat if they are worn. It could cause excess fuel to go into the engine. S.U's are incredibly simple once you see how they work, but they are also such a great piece of engineering. You can adjust the front carb mixture using the bottom screw below the carb itself. Winding it downward causes it to become more rich and winding it up makes it more lean. You could try backing it off (so it goes up) a turn and a half, clean your plugs up and go for a drive (5 - 10 mins) and re-examine the plugs after. How long ago does it look like they might have been attended to? Are they relatively clean on the outside or do they look like they have done a few years of service?
  22. Yeah you can't loose motivation now, looks like you have more than 1 Z that needs work.
  23. You have my sympathy, nobody wants to do the same thing twice. I guess you just gotta grit your teeth and start again. Or possibly work on something else until your ready to do it again.
  24. I've seen a few kits on eBay etc.. never bought 1 online though. Ztherapy does the roller bearing throttle shafts which can help with a common issue which is the throttle shaft needs rebushing, if the throttle shaft is worn it causes a vacuum leak which can make tuning the carbs almost impossible to sync etc.. I've not tried the roller bearing modification but it's apparently the ducks nuts., from what I've heard. http://www.ztherapy.com/products/SUReman.htm Throttle Shafts are sized to receive double sealed stainless steel roller bearings. Carb bodies are precision machined for shaft alignment and installation of both bearings. This alignment process in conjunction with the bearings virtually eliminates shaft binding, vacuum leaks and idle problems for years to come. Just a shame nobody local offers this level of detailed service for these carbs. I'm not sure if you can get the roller bearings sent to you with the rebuild kit, it's worth sending an email though.
  25. Yeah sounds like a good time to rebuild them and replace all gaskets etc.. then reset them. Not willing to rev past 3000rpm though could be an ignition issue.
