  1. Ok so late night update, considering packing it in having a shower and going to bed. But if anyone is up, I thought I'd see for some advice re: engine stand. So motor out. Hooray, thankfully only 1 bolt was a bit problematic near the starter motor and bell housing. I couldn't get a breaker bar onto it because of the angle and I only had the car on stands. A hoist would have been easier... But thanks to 1 of the members on here who lent me their engine stand it made the job soooooo easy... Last time I did it with a winch attached to the centre beam of the garage roof and it was a bit more difficult. I did this on my own. Only had help from the g/f to remove the bonnet. 1 thing I'd never seen before was these gearbox braces on the underside of the gear box.. These photos somewhat suck.. I've never seen these before on a Z, are they from a MQ Patrol set up? Also note the second plug in the rear of sump? Not sure what that's for? Oil cooler return line? Again never seen that either... Looks like cylinder #4 blew a gasket, see the orange colour in the exhaust port? As you can see Octopus Legs are left in engine bay. Along with gearbox. So my question is, do I need to remove clutch and flywheel to attach engine stand to the block? I'm guessing I'll need to remove them anyway to get the crank out? Will need to use something to jam the flywheel from moving when undoing the bolts yar? And when I mount it, should I use the supplied bolts on the engine mount or the ones I removed from the gearbox bell housing? The ones on the stand seem to have more thread than the holes on the block, just don't want them to snap if they are not all the way in. And just a shot to show the hand throttle and choke knobs at their new home. The hand throttle works also, I pulled it out and noticed it causes the accelerator to move to the floor a little bit. Pretty cool, but pretty dangerous lol..
  2. Chas any plans to do other plastic parts in the engine bay like the voltage regulator cover or the brake / clutch cylinder reservoirs?
  3. I don't think any are 'better' than the other. In terms of performance. Might be harder to find parts for the earlier ones though.
  4. By the way mate, any idea what colour it was originally interior / exterior? She's only a few digits away from mine and Lurch's car which are both 920 gold, #151 is also the same colour. Wondering what shade of paint yours was originally if you know?
  5. #150 has a compliance plate. I was told it is quite rare that cars in 1970 had 1. Note: Same month / year compliance date.
  6. Go on tell us the good panel beater's name and details. Love that Blue. I think there is a lot of forum voyeurs yet to participate. Thanks for finally joining.
  7. http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/39001-my-teacher-s-wife Happy Gilmore meets American Pie. Not that great. Thought it was made in the 80s pretty dated.
  8. Received mine other day thanks mate.
  9. Oh I don't think it is a trend this has been going on for many decades now. Given that some people have 3-4 k in wheels on their cars I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
  10. The epoxy glue I used seems to bond very hard. My current ash tray lid is in many more pieces than that though. However it looks like a piece down the side is missing.
  11. @HKS thanks for those photos, Dimitri managed to help me out with the missing parts and they arrived today. I now have the console surround, choke and throttle knobs. Only thing I really need is an ash tray lid that isn't broken. If anyone else wants these parts please feel free to send HKS a message. FYI: HKS that is an early ash-tray lid, the handle is slightly different to the later style. Here is a comparison photo (early lid on right vs later on left).
  12. Will reply to your email when I get home mate.
  13. FYI: James Flett from MIA Engine Service also said he can help with car transport etc.. when I spoke to him at the workshop. http://goo.gl/maps/L82NM So you may also want to contact him for help transporting your Z.
  14. Quite a few people have asked me about who I used to transport my 240z from South Australia to NSW. Actually the eBay seller helped me organise it and so I'm not sure what the company name is, but the Tow Truck drivers I dealt with are: Mark: 0407 710 933 Gary: 0416 452 025 I believe I paid around $600 from S.A to a depot in N.S.W and an additional $100-$120 for the depot in N.S.W to my place. Which is 15 km's from Sydney's CBD. Car arrived and seemed the same as it was when it left S.A. Thankfully nothing got stolen / damaged etc.. during the journey. So would recommend them. Apparently Mark works for Toll, but I never got confirmation of the company name to be honest.
  15. Yeah coupe is nicer. I was looking at a 160j that was for sale in Ireland but it was 8000. Euro.
  16. Nismo would have been a cool name, my last dog was a Border Collie X, still miss that dog. So far everyone loves Datsun as a name, but they always think of 120Y or 200B, never the 240Z. I'm going to find a Datsun keyring to hang around his neck, might also get 1 of those Datsun Performance stickers for his Kennel, pimp it out JDM style! http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/m8mePOnHFFFXvfedBJPiBNA.jpg Yes. but he eats very fast. You'll need more time than 200g of mince will afford you to steal my cars .
  17. Datsun 140J - very rare. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wangara/cars-vans-utes/1975-datsun-violet/1039237891 $2,500 seems very cheap to me! This is where L14 rods come from
  18. I haven't tried it, but on another forum 1 suggestion was buying a cheap disposable mobile phone and inserting a sim card on a plan with pre-paid credit that doesn't expire. Then you directly wire the mobile phone into the car to keep it charged and hide the phone someone inside the car. Using a mobile app that let's you know the GPS position of the phone would enable you to track the exact location of the car at any given time. 1 person said he still knows where his car is 12 months after he sold it to someone else . At the end of the day GPS tracking in my opinion is the best bet for recovering the vehicle after it's stolen. Of course anything you can do to prevent it is going to help. I have a thick chained gate, a garage, good neighbors who keep an eye on the place when we're out and we recently installed this guy. He may not look mean yet, but once he's fully grown I suspect most wouldn't wanna mess with him . PS: His name is 'Datsun' .

Very cool as close as most would get to an OS Giken twin can.
  20. 1. Yes it is, and if you limit your range to only cars in NSW it's going to be even more tough. There are just not enough cars left to be picky about finding a local car. I personally imported my 240z project from S.A to NSW. If you can get someone to look at a car for you in another state then you can always get it transported. Yes it will cost, but NSW seems to have less Zeds than say Victoria or South Australia for some reason. 2. The differences between the 260z / 240z and 2+2 etc.. has been covered many times. I would suggest you do an image search on Google to see the difference between 2 and 4 seaters. 4 seaters are cheaper because people tend to prefer the 2 seater roofline but if you don't mind this difference then it will be easier to find a good car at a reasonable price. A budget of a 'few' thousand is only going to get you a basket case to be honest.
  21. 3 260z 2 seaters. Same Seller 1. http://www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/detail/cars/cars/datsun/260z/42106 2. http://www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/detail/cars/cars/datsun/260z/43970 This car looks like a US import 3. http://www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/detail/cars/cars/datsun/260z/162748

  24. Aren't Wolf Creek CVs meant to be akin to $h!t creek based on feedback from members here?
  25. I'm thinking this would be an ideal project car. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2630.msg147076.html#msg147076 Not sure what it looks like now, but you won't find a 260z 2 seater much cheaper than that these days. Unless you find a real rusty bones car. Are you looking for a 2 seater or 2+2 that's usually pretty important to people?
