  1. LOL did you get bored or something George?
  2. How far will you go with the port work on the N42? Has James said what kind of CFM to expect? I hate to ask - because it's not about peak HP etc.. but what are you shooting for in terms of torque / usable HP etc..? I'm going to be watching this with eager anticipation as I'm weighing up my options right now and if I modify my motor I'd want to get 250+ HP out of it, but I know getting up to about 300HP is going to be expensive to do it right, then you need a heavy duty clutch and supporting drivetrain etc..and I already have an LD28 crank and Triple Mikuni's etc.. and they are 2 of the expensive bits lol... Have you decided on the induction side of things what you'll use? What is the main benefit of the Kameari timing gear? Does it remove the slack in the chain and give you more accurate camshaft timing?
  3. I think the general consensus is that every second release of Windows from Microsoft is meant to be good. XP was good, Vista was rubbish, 7 was good, 8 is rubbish and so on... Your engine reminds me of what this Kiwi did.
  4. Is the Datsun spirit cam. A Schneider rebranded cam?
  5. Well.. I just looked and saw a couple of these Roadsters asking close to 50k http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-2000-Sports-1967/SSE-AD-2706433/?Cr=3&sdmvc=1 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-2000-Sports-1967/SSE-AD-2784220/?Cr=8&sd Then at the other end of the scale you have 20k and under cars. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-Fairlady-1965/SSE-AD-2730073/?Cr=17&sdmvc=1 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-Fairlady-1964/SSE-AD-2625622/?Cr=25&sdmvc=1 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-2000-Sports-1969/SSE-AD-2399279/?Cr=37&sdmvc=1 I feel like their values have shot up out of nowhere recently? But maybe I'm just slow.
  6. Yeah pull the finger out mate. The man has trim to install.
  7. I'm having the same motor dilemma as you, build a serious L-series or keep it stock to stay within a reasonable budget... hmmmm.. Car is looking relatively complete now, like that colour more and more each time I see it.
  8. When everyone modifies their Z's the only way to stand out is to go back to original .
  9. This topic has been moved to General Discussions. [iurl]http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=14309.0[/iurl]
  10. Just came across this news article on the price of a Japanese import in the US. http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000254919 Listen for the end of the video, they mention the 240z
  11. Refer back to this page of the thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2630.msg118872.html#msg118872 You can see a side profile pic of it.
  12. *Edit looks like we are replying right after 1 another, yeah looks like images work ok now. Mate for what I need they are perfect. The Safari Gold car door card on the drivers side the Masonite backing has cracked and the vinyl split so this is perfect. It will suit my D.I.Y console just fine and they look better than the ones I put on my 72 240z. So happy days. Let me know how you want me to pay for them and if you prefer I can have them sent to my Melbourne address or you can ship them up this way etc..? By the way why are you getting rid of them? Because race car?
  13. Weird I just increased not only the storage space on the server but the file size limits for forum attachments. I doubled it to 512kb and made it so you can post 8 pics per post now instead of 4. I see at least 1 attachment in your post above of the passenger side door card.
  14. Looks good from pics i'll definitely take em' mate. Provided drivers card is not shagged?
  15. Just increased storage space on the server, I did it before the upgrade but I suspect the upgrade reset things. Should work now when uploading images.
  16. I'll call dibs pending pics. I need a driver side door card.
  17. So staggered offsets are fine but the wheels must be the same on each respective side of the vehicle with the exception being space saver emergency wheels?
  18. What about the roof skin off the donor car? Sending that along also? Did the tow truck driver have much to say?
  19. Not sure if I mentioned it already but I managed to get enrolled in the course again this semester. They ran a second class after all that. So a little bit more progress on rust removal front. Before I welded the patch piece for the lower guard on I decided to cut the holes in the bottom of the fender. I'm not actually sure what these are for? Possibly for drainage etc..? Anyway it was as simple as using a drill to cut a couple of holes and then using tin snips to trim the rest of it out and a file to take down the edges after etc.. Old vs New. I had the course instructor help with the first couple of tack welds. Then I finished off the rest of the lower panel. Then it was supposed to be the easy part, but I blew a couple of small holes. Possibly because it was late in the evening and I was perhaps rushing and a bit tired so not as focused. But I'll try and fix those issues next week and get this section finally done. It's slow progress when you're still a newbie and despite all my practice on other blank metal tabs with my welding, I still made a couple of mistakes. Oh well.. I might have to hire out an oxy / acetylene welder and get myself a fire extinguisher so I can practice more than just once a week. Anyone have recommendations for hiring out an oxy? Or would you suggest buying the hoses and welder tip etc.. and just renting the bottles? I'll also start practicing with the Mig welder soon also etc.. As a final note - see in the pictures how the paint is burnt? Yeah that's why I don't think I can preserve the patina of the old paint...it just can't be avoided...
  20. So have you picked a colour yet? Or do we need to wait and see?
  21. Exported AU/NZ model on Yahoo! Auctions. (HS30 chassis) http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/d152723243 Asking ~ $30,000 + AU. I believe in the late 80s / early 90s we lost some of our 'better cars' as some Japanese bought them at their bargain prices (a good Z in the 90s wasn't worth all that much) and sent them back to Japan. I've heard the rumor a couple of times. Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I know of at least a few HS30's that went to Japan so maybe there is some truth in it? Anyway looks like a clean little unit - might even be worth importing for someone looking at an original car. Note: Looks like it still has the AU compliance plate in the engine bay - but can't be certain.
  22. A man who never made a mistake, never made anything .
  23. Early S30z console. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240z-Floor-Console-Black-/131188164898 Early Console with identify crisis (has later fuse cover). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240-Z-center-console-and-door-from-a-1971-Z-/231228884333 Console plate. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-240Z-Series-1-69-71-Center-Console-Choke-Cover-Switch-Plate-CHROME-/400708935543
  24. You know when I saw the opening part of the video, I thought it didn't look as bad as I thought when I saw it all stripped down. Then when the battery tray area came into focus I thought "Ohhhhh" and then it said "I love my car" and I wanted to laugh and then as you slowly panned around the A pillar, the floor, battery box etc.. I thought "Yeah that is proper rust". Then of course as you went around the rest of the car I thought "Yes" rusty . Can't wait to see what Paul does with it.
