  1. Thanks everyone. @Scoota - Thanks, but I am trying to offload some parts and another valve cover will just sit around. Thanks Enzo - PM sent with address etc..
  2. Topic split, feel free to go nuts.
  3. We might need to split this topic just to focus on that 510. Aircraft Engineer hey? I need to go back to School I think..
  4. I actually don't think it would take much more effort than restoring any other 240z properly. You could just source the quarter panels again and reconstruct the rear beaver panel correctly or get it off a donor that someone cuts up. But the bigger question is what's under that paint? Considering it's narrow appeal I think it's over-priced because it will probably only appeal to someone looking to do a full restoration or 'horror of horrors' convert to a Ferrari Replica...
  5. Ahh well, you've got more Zeds than me. Can't own them all. Gotta have somewhere to store them . Why don't you buy the early red 1 with the custom tail lights LOL...?
  6. Angry L-series in this video clip.
  7. 5 speed gear box rebuilt, doesn't mention ratios. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/adelaide-region/engine-engine-parts-transmission/5-speed-recond-gearbox-suit-240-260-280z/1044496663
  8. So if anyone else needs eye soap here is a really clean looking 2+2. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bassendean/cars-vans-utes/datsun-260z/1046401666 Asking $15k.
  9. I think that car was for sale not that long ago, the 1/4 windows are covered and welded shut. Weird is a polite way of describing it. So modified yet it has the OEM original and hard to find 5 speed gear knob .
  10. I'm not sure how to tell it's genuine ,but if you look at the picture of the box in 1 of the photos it says 10th Anniversary and I believe there was a limited run of these wheels to celebrate some 10th anniversary of Nissan's but I can't recall which 1. I'm sure Alan HS30-H could confirm - I've seen him mention it before. It certainly looks legit - a lot of the replica's look of lower quality to me (based on photos alone).
  11. As per the subject, anyone got a spare 1 of these? Pictured here (top/middle) Absolutely no rush, but I broke mine removing the valve cover with a rubber mallet (damn gasket was glued tight). I'm looking for another as I'm considering polishing the original style valve cover and I'm painting another with red wrinkle paint and want to see what look I like MOAR better . Price? Make it cheap....lol..
  12. A couple of 240k's for sale. Sedan. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/tarleton/cars-vans-utes/1977-datsun-240k-sedan/1046450526 Coupe http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/pasadena/cars-vans-utes/1974-datsun-240k-coupe/1046417342 Also found this video of a clean 240k coupe

  14. Nice work so far, good job on the L-series rebuild.
  15. Did you try putting eggs in the radiator? http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/one-car-too-far/videos/radiator-egg-fix.htm I've never tried it, but I will next time .
  16. You might want to be patient and hold out for Nato to finish his. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12469.0.html I see you PM'd him about it, but I'd go new metal over old if possible .
  17. Hi mate, I just bumped up server space yesterday (we were running out). Can you verify it's still happening? If so I'll review the settings and see if I can replicate the problem on my end.
  18. No problem George. I was going to ask you, but thought it was only fair to offer it to everyone .
  19. So I was going to keep these for future 3D printing purposes but I figure if someone can put them to good use then I might as well offer them up here. I couldn't sell them because a couple of them were given to me with a collection of other bits and pieces and I figure it's better to give them a good home. If you have anything to give me of use in return I'd appreciate it, but not required. Would prefer to give to a Sydney member since I won't have to post it (can give it to someone at a meet etc..) but I'll consider posting also. Center Console Finisher Trim #1 This came out of HS30 00150 - it's genuinely 44 years old I painted the edges white as part of experimenting with how it would turn out. But it needs a bit more help than that to 'restore it'. Center Console Finisher Trim #2 Mark (mossy) gave this to me, it would be ok if not for some genius' idea to cut holes in it :S Astray surround. It's split in 2 pieces, but the break is clean and could be epoxy / glued back together and painted and you wouldn't even be able to tell once installed. It's missing some of the hardware/clips and the ash-tray chrome bit inside the ash tray that helps. It comes with a lid that has been broken many times before and I recently glued back together with epoxy resin (top right corner) which seems to hold very well. Is is however missing the lid handle part. The ash-tray surround comes with a chrome trim ring (I broke 1 of the 3 tabs on it, so it has 2 left). You don't want to know how much a center console ash-tray for an early S30Z is new these days. I've seen them as high as $450 on eBay. http://jdm-car-parts.com/item-for-sale/ash-trayfuse-cover-for-datsun-240z-series-1/ Thanks guys. PS: First in best dressed. Only way to do these things.
  20. So to finish up, I decided to use blu tac to cover the insignia on the center plate. It was a bit fiddly and just requires patience and taking your time to get it right. Using a very small screw driver I tried to feed the blu tac into the indented parts to cover them before painting over with black paint. I found that a very very small amount of blu tac was required. Simply roll it out like play dough to get a long thin line of blue tac and then feed that into the shape you need. It was hard to get this perfect, but I was really aiming for 'close enough' and good from far . I covered the rest of the console with painters tape and hit the area again with black paint (to fix the scuffed looking surface). As you can see it came out pretty good. If you look really really close you can see a couple of small spots where it's not quite as black, but you would have to be looking very closely and considering the fact that I don't even know if I'll use a rear defogger or parker lights on my early 240z and might just use the blanking plates it's definitely good enough for me.
  21. Cheap relatively complete looking 240z with auto slush box. Asking $10k http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z-Sports-1972-2D-Coupe-3-SP-Automatic-2-4L-Twin-Carb-/251528844552?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3a90499508&_uhb=1
  22. Sounds good mate, I am thinking of making this panel in my Tafe class, so I am hoping to remove it in 1 go and use it as a template. We shall see what happens in reality though. I'm curious to see how bad things are under that slam panel in mine.
  23. Good to see you around Peter, hoping to pick your brains on my engine build .
  24. Good work Lachlan as Peter said. I'm happy to be mentored when you're in Sydney . @DreamZProject - when you find that spot welder drill bit and those other tools bits, let me know where you got them? I need to get some of that stuff. Also with the rear hatch slam panel do you just undo the spot welds and then pull it off or is there another way to remove it?
  25. Fender Mirrors. http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/b156966592 I don't think they are the Fairlady Z type though, they look shorter and the bottom of the stalk has a slight hook not present on the Fairlady Z ones, as far as I can tell.
