  1. C'mon folks put your guesstimates in, winner gets poked in the eye with a burnt stick! Who doesn't want that?
  2. Cool commercial, but were you selling the Z or the shop? Z sounds good!
  3. LOL, I was about to reply don't listen to me because I already have 4 cars. Sounds like you might be going to have a look?
  4. George when I lived in Dublin a Fairlady Roadster was on the market, I was tempted at the time and in some ways regret not buying it now. I went for the FD RX-7. Thing is I think it looks like a steal at that price, so even if you only used it a few times a year. Insurance will be cheap, registration = cheap (classic). So in a few years if you decide to move on I don't think you would loose any value in it. Of course the other half might have something to say about it.
  5. You and me both, but you can't always buy everything that comes up at a good price. Trust me I know . I've had to take a hiatus from Yahoo! Auctions for a little bit. Speaking of which I've seen them on Yahoo! Auctions but never as cheap as $500. I've seen some used sets in rough condition sell for $300-$400 but I'm not sure how easy is would be to get the plastic covers replicated? They're often cracked in used sets.
  6. #332 - I should really keep a register of all early cars we come across and when they were last seen etc..I guess WA ZCars has a register but not sure it's updated for things like this. Would be useful to get some history on some of these cars documented though.
  7. Very nice, shame the owner never signed up here and shared the car with us. Front grill has been changed to the export market style. Note it's a Fairlady 240z meaning it has an L24 motor (not L20) and would be stamped with a chassis prefix of HS30 as opposed to just S30. Other cool details are the light covers, rally clock, the flare for passenger footwell (that's a real JDM thing), no bumper overriders, flasher switch in the dash, Z badge instead of Datsun on bonnet, passenger footwell / panic bar - we only got that in the 260z's here. Carbs don't look like Hitachi's, looks like somthing else and the air box has the flapper (which I'm not sure if that's original to the JDM cars or not?) I've seen it on the US models a lot. The more I look at it the more I like it, if it's a solid rust free car. Well worth asking price in my opinion. I can't recall seeing many original Z's like this for sale in Australia. Sadly owner paid $1500 for new door cards, could have got them a bit cheaper than that!
  8. Funny I have my moments with my own project where I think it would just be easier to pay someone to do some of the tasks I'm doing. Then I read your post and I remember why I'm doing it myself, the truth is I've often been disappointed when I let others work on my cars. Not always, but the majority of the time yes. That's why I'm doing all these trivial tasks. Thanks for the reminder - oh and I'm enjoying your project thread also!
  9. 65 Fairlady Roadster - $12k http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/newcastle-2300/cars-vans-utes/1965-datsun-fairlady-convertible/1048640882 Seems wayyy too cheap...
  10. Actually I noticed how they were doing this, the front page is managed by a different system to the forum section of the site and although the register form for the front page system is not displayed anywhere users were being registered by bots/spammers and then managing to publish content. I've now closed this loop hole *hopefully* - but also need to do a security update also. Oh and I have an anti-spam module installed, but it appears to be next to useless.
  11. It's looking awesome mate, keep us updated as it slowly takes shape.
  12. I did some site upgrades the other day to prevent this. Seems a recent security hole was found and the site needs another update / patch.... Thanks for letting me know.
  13. Not sure if this is early RS30 or later RS30 2 seater trim? http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/m124593681 But currently a good price if you're not after 'mint' door cards.
  14. N42 for $150. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ringwood/engine-engine-parts-transmission/n42-cylinder-head-datsun-240z-260z-280z/1053765733 Good price!
  15. Another 240z for sale. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/victor-harbor/cars-vans-utes/1973-datsun-240z-coupe/1053802976 Asking $12,500.00 - Been listed a few times before, Green LHD imported 240z.
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-Coupe-Professionally-restored-1972-Datsun-240-Z-Resto-Mod-/161386307368?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25935f9f28&item=161386307368&pt=US_Cars_Trucks Restomod 240z Currently at 35k+ Buy it now $120k
  17. Datsun 240Z Design Development Process - Exterior…: No 2+2 development photos though.
  18. Early s30z concept photos showed a similar design to this. Along with a targa roof version. Should see if we can dig it up.
  19. I have always wondered what 240z rear lights would look like on a 2+2 - shame this has been modified so much, makes it hard to tell if it improves the rear of the 2+2 or not. I'd really like to see someone modify the 2+2 rear 1/4 profile so it's more inline with the 2 seater.
  20. Mate it's not eBay please set a price.
  21. Since I'm on the topic of asking newbie questions about welding. What gauge welding wire do you use with gas based MIG welding on our cars? Also just as an FYI: CoreGas http://www.tradegas.com.au/ Have a partnership with Bunnings where you basically pay a deposit on the bottle and get a refund when you return them. Like a swap n' go at at service station for BBQ gas bottles. However at this stage they only do oxy/acetylene bottles and not Argon, they said it's still a new thing for Bunnings so they might offer Argon in the future however.
  22. Just get a Volvo P1800ES . If you want to change 2+2 roof profile make it shorter like the 240z, not longer.
  23. Hi Guys, I was asked this question by someone but I don't know and said I would ask here since I know a few people here dabble in the Fat Ladies . *oh no he didn't* Is there anyone good in Sydney at tuning 350z's? Or specialist shops that deal with these cars and people are happy to recommend?
  24. Thanks mate, I think I'll go gas based welding as opposed to gas-less - from what I've read and you say gas is much better in terms of the quality of the weld.
