  1. Looks like a cool little event.
  2. If there is enough interest might be able to upload them to the server.
  3. Take her on a weekend trip to Melbourne, stay somewhere nice in Yarra Valley area, near all the wineries etc.. I'm sure there is luxury accommodation near by, "Oh honey, while we are here there is a nice BBQ going on with some friends". It's a good social event, not just about cars. Although it's really just about cars haha.
  4. Early 2 knob rally clock with oscillator anyone? http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/w108314662 A cool $800+ AU
  5. If I can be there I will, but I think I might be in Vegas that week for a work thing. So will need to confirm closer to date.
  6. As always thanks for setting the record straight, at some point I may try and replicate the 432-R tank and flat rear floor and those photos will be a great reference. At this stage though my primary concern is to return my car to the road, then once I can enjoy it and have it on the road I might concentrate on giving it some period correct / replica parts to make it more like a 432-R, but rather than strive for replica I might go for more of a tribute at least to start with. If I can ever score an S20 motor and be in a position to build 1 properly, I may go all the way with it. But as you say you have to be pragmatic and trying to do all those things at the moment would probably over-burden me. But it's always good to dream. Do you know what kind of rear view mirrors were used on the 432R's? Or I should say swapped out for, what kind of period racing mirrors were often used in place of the fender mirrors?
  7. Barn find Silver 1970 240z. HLS30 (U) - 00504 - not the 504 made, but the 504th made North American market car. I hate to nitpick, but every time someone parrots this same nonsense completely ignoring the other markets I feel like a sad panda inside.
  8. Radovan von Winterberg r2desvw@myone.com.au Try that, last I heard was this.. 9. Looks even better with the Gnose on it.
  10. James Flett's 71 240z. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=5369.0
  11. Merged topics... I recall that video, but it's the star in the car that I now recognise. Keiichi Tsuchiya is a talented driver.
  12. Yes we had a good look at that 1. Current owner isn't responsible for that abomination. Rev you know you want to. Make an offer I think he will have a hard time selling it. Just like the other tastefully modded 1 in Tassie with the began rear lights.

    240Z lights

Same here, if I was you I'd list them on eBay US though. I think you'll get a better price than $400 for them.
  14. A like the photos of the original 1970 240z with I assume you standing next to it? I wonder where that car might be now? *Edit* You know I thought I'd seen that horrendous front bumper before (sorry I'm sure dad thought it was rad and very 911 ish back in the day) but what are the chances that is Mossy's car now? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,4438.0.html - Same wheels - Same front bar - Same sunroof - Just different paint colour....

    240Z lights

The original lenses are quite solid and sturdy, I have a couple of sets of 240z tail lights in various states of condition. I'm going to try rejuvenate them with plastic polish and perhaps clear coat? You can get the chrome trim piece for about $150 US I've seen them on eBay and a couple of other suppliers in the states. The only problem with the original lenses is that some get hairline cracks in them over the years that won't polish out and I'm not sure what could be done to get around this. Overall these look like a good buy, but you may find the quality not up to OEM. Good second hand sets go on Yahoo! auctions for between $300-$400 AU even though there is plenty of replica units available on there also. I'd say quality may be an issue, hence I'm waiting for feedback.
  16. I hope you know what you'd be getting yourself into? It will need more than the tail lights changed, it's had some kind of 'widebody' kit slapped on it and I'd say there is a lot of other stuff changed. It really deserves to be put back to original but it's going to take quite a bit of work and there is no photos of the rust it likely has...I'd be careful buying based on eBay description and photos alone. It really would be worth viewing - shame it's in Tasmania.
  17. I was going to go to $520 before shipping + broker fee's. http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u68439894 But as you can see it's at $600+ before shipping and broker fee's. Not cheap....
  18. Agreed we need a national road registration / governing body. It's absurd that we have different structures and rules for different states.
  19. Well if that isn't an advertisement for pull the finger out and get her done I don't know what is?

    240Z lights

+1 let us know what they are like when you get them. I've seen similar styles on Yahoo! Auction.
  21. I think it's a bit of a myth that early 240z's were lighter than later 240z's. I think that might only apply to heavy US bumper 73 models. So far from what I've seen there would be very little difference in weight between my 70 240z and my 72 240z or the 73 I owned. As in any difference would be negligible. If I recall correctly you're 75? 260z has a the shorter rear strut towers like the earlier S30z shells doesn't it? In which case it would definitely have to be less than 1200 kg.
  22. Thanks for the suggestion on KBS I looked into a local supplier and had a chat with them the other day. So I worked further on the door shell last night. A few things happened, although again it doesn't look like much progress. I guess this just shows why it's easy to under-estimate how long it takes to restore a car properly and many get tempted to rush through it...any I digress back on topic... So if you recall last time I welded 2 of the captive nuts down with the mig-welder as they were mis-aligned. Well after examining the door we realised that the lower part where the hinge attached to was sitting a bit proud from a previous knock the door had sustained at some point. This was obviously contributing to it's mis-alignment as seen in earlier photos. Anyway when smacking this area flat again the 3rd captive nut decided to fall off. There is a lesson in there somewhere I'm sure... something along the lines of while you're at it perhaps? So anyway I re-tacked that captive nut also. Next I focused on the area of damage, there was still some bog in the door that the sandblaster hadn't removed in this area. So using a metal scribe I tried to pick it out only to discover some pin-holes around the area. So out came the Mig welder and I patched up these holes. I then hit the area with a linisher. Which looks like this. It gave the area a good polished steel look. Which is important for the lead wiping - I'll get to it in a minute. While waiting for help on the lead wiping I decided to smooth off the other welded up patches. Because I've never done lead wiping before the teacher offered to show me on the door how it's done. I recorded it, and despite him saying in the video he didn't want me to put it on Youtube, he later said it was ok . Excuse the waffle talk and poor camera work, I was watching in person more than worried about filming. I can imagine I'll be using lead wiping on the damaged bonnet skin and possibly the rear hatch that has had a knock at some stage also and probably the most common spot others would use this on an S30z is the rear 1/4 roof join / lap section. After that this is how the door looked, this is before filing it down. I have done some filing on it to tidy and structure it up better but I didn't take photos of that yet. Will do that next time.
  23. Very cool, I like the black valve cover. Even though it's the later cover it suits the engine bay and car colour. You're almost there and I'm jelly.
  24. You can always sell some of the parts and other car to offset the costs of buying the good car. I wouldn't worry there will always be some barn find scored at a bargain price. It's the cost of some NOS stuff that is really going up and making it harder I think.
  25. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Original-240z-260z-Steering-Wheel-Datsun-S30-432-Fairlady-/281422764706 Some people were after the original 240z steering wheel recently? Looks like this 1 has had the paint restored and the wood-rim left with the patina look.
