  1. That must be a rocket, looking good.
  2. I'm going to assume you've seen this? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-240k-discussion/44187-my-240k-c110-build-thread.html
  3. Well worth the read... http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2008/08/14/1218307097757.html?page=fullpage Feel sorry for the chap that sold the Toyota 2000GT. That's a better investment than Sydney real estate over the last 10 years!
  4. IF and it's a big IF, I drive down for this. I might take the FD RX-7 and I'll be coming from NSW to VIC so we could cruise down together but I'd probably be driving down a day or 2 before. Rather than trying to drive down on the day itself. In all fairness it's probably more likely that I'd be flying down, I imagine the probability of me receiving a speeding fine driving the RX-7 is probably very high... It's a long drive, with lots of straight roads and not much to do for 12 hours. At some point I'd wanna see how fast I can go....
  5. Ok guys, I'll take the seats out and take some photos of them for reference. They are in Melbourne (I'm in Sydney) but I'll be down there soon. I'll probably install the stock seats again and leave these out anyway, if they are fakes it's just another reason to get rid of them. The person I bought them off originally is someone I no longer trust, so if they are indeed fakes or replica's it will be just 1 more thing that person screwed me on. (There is a list). Sadly.
  6. LOL yes I'll send you guys the bank details shortly haha. Sorry brain fart...
  7. 2+2 on Gumtree. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/salisbury-east/cars-vans-utes/1976-datsun-260z-coupe/1057228178 Now that is a red interior!
  8. 1973 Datsun 240z in NSW. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/medlow-bath/cars-vans-utes/1973-datsun-240z-coupe/1057939058 Asking $10k Looks like it hasn't run in a long time, but could be better than photos suggest. Looks original.
  9. Hi mate, I'll send a PM about these...
  10. Thanks Mark. By the way how do you find those seats in your S30z now that you've had them a while? And how did you mount them, did you put them on stock rails?
  11. ^^ What he said, I'm doing the same thing with mine.
  12. Hi Guys, I've been thinking about selling these for a while and going with something a little more 'period' looking. Only problem is, I don't know what model of Recaro seat they are and I'm not sure what they're worth? Can anyone tell me what I should expect to get for them if I put them on eBay or Gumtree? If anyone might be interested in them, they fit well in a S30z with the correct mounts/rails they would not touch the door. I made a bracket that adapts to the standard runners to fit them, but I don't want to sell these as I don't feel they are well made / strong enough (I made these before I could weld). So I'd rather sell them as basic seats. (not sure I still have the runners pictured in the photos above). I assume not because I haven't seen them anywhere in the garage at my parents place. I have seen a lot of S30z designed seat mounts to suit Recaro seats on Yahoo! Auctions Japan, they are about $200. However as I'm not sure what make / model of Recaro seat they are I've not bothered to order them. They do recline so would work in a 2+2 also as you could tilt them forward enough to get people in the back. They do sit a bit higher than stock, but I'm not sure if that's also compounded by the fact that the originals in mine were pretty flogged out in the lower foam section. There is some sun fading UV damage - mostly on the passenger side lower portion of the seat. So instead of a dark black you can see an almost purple hue to it. However it's not that obvious. It is my understanding they came out of a Porsche 911 before I got them. They are far more supportive and comfortable than the OEM ones I pulled out, but I'm either going to re-trim the originals or replace with 'Datsun Bucket' style seats. Which I imagine will be infinitely less comfortable and will probably annoy my g/f no end
  13. I'd definitely be interested. Would like to meet the folks in Queensland also. Would be awesome to get some photos and perhaps do a write up for the home page on these cars also. Wondering what colour and year the PS30 is.
  14. Must be excited, I see you've even put the skyline 1/4 badge on. They look awesome in Silver, too many are white . Although I'd be tempted to go red also, since they are very rare in that colour. Rare in any colour these days I guess also. Funny how the firewall has that same X in it that the 240z's do. I wonder why they were pressed like that? Strength?
  15. Sounds good, looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Another thing I thought of was 5 speed knob button's. Those would be good to 3D print. Although I've noticed even the American 4 speed knobs are going up in price as the new ones Nissan is making are slightly different to the original design (thicker). So it seems people want the original style still. Heater / Defroster control knobs (those little black plastic ones that often break over the years), the heater console facia (since they always get cut for a head unit) is another good 1 (although larger). The tail light finisher (chrome strip piece) - again we would need to find a suitable vacuum chrome process for plastic though... I've seen a few rally clocks etc.. with broken black knobs on them so that would be a good piece to replicate (although very small audience I'd imagine). If you can do larger items, reproduction center consoles would be a good 1, early ones are expensive these days at $600+ for a repaired / restored console. Pretty much everything this guy is doing. http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/ By the way with the fender mirrors, are you going to do the plastic cup that goes at the bottom? I was thinking about this and thought they remind me of the old film camera canisters. Could probably modify them and make that work. I've got a couple of sets of Fender Mirrors now that I've managed to source so I'm up for 2 sets of these black plastic bases as spares etc..
  16. Ideas for 3D printing. 1. Choke / Throttle Knobs (all years) 2. Ash tray lid (early 240z) 3. Center console garnish 4. Map light garnish (early + later) 5. Voltage Regulator Cover 6. Inside Door Trim (inserts) where the stainless piece is (it's a cover) usually missing. 7. Rear Licence Plate (inner and outer pieces) - plastic 8. Early rear hatch vents (would need to sort out chrome finish). 9. Early 240z tool box lids 10. Early 240z rear hatch (inner trim) w/flutes in it. 11. Rear 1/4 panels (inside trim) 12. 1/4 window panels 13. Rear tail light inner trim at rear of hatch (covers access to the tail lights) There is lots of little items then, like the windscreen scuttle panel plastic trims that it sits in (under windscreen) and stuff like that. That's all I can think of for now... some of this would be much harder than other stuff I'd imagine.
  17. But are they S20 powered or L-GATA based Skylines? Big difference in collectibility in my opinion. You mentioned GTR, I hate to nitpick but it's only a GTR if it has the S20 between the strut towers, otherwise it's a replica.
  18. So is it a PCG10 = 4 Door Skyline with S20 motor (GTR) Or is it a KPGC10 = 2 Door Skyline (Coupe) with S20 Motor (GTR) Or is it a KGC10 = Nissan Skyline 2000gt-x (L-GATA) Hopefully he didn't get the 4 banger short-nose (KC10) version through Edward Lee's Importer. LOL. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,5272.0.html Unless he wanted the 4 banger version...
  19. Really looking forward to seeing it sometime. I'm super happy to see a (PS30) 432 has made it to Australia. In terms of worldwide appeal I agree it's a cult classic everywhere. It's my opinion that for too long these cars have been taken for granted and not given the proper recognition they deserve, I feel this is changing, in Australia in particular I feel they ("Datsun's and other Classic Japanese Marques in general) have a lot more respect now than they did about 16 years ago when I first got into them myself. I am for keeping them as original/period correct as possible, but not in a way that makes them undriveable or difficult to live with. I've noticed that certain parts for these cars are getting more expensive, in my mind the values of the cars themselves have lagged behind these prices. A mint S30Z (Early version) dashboard is on Yahoo! Auctions for about $3000 AU, a pair of NOS Tail Lights went for $1,500 AU. NOS Fender Mirrors and Headlight covers (chrome) are big money also. This is why I say they are no longer cheap Datsun's. They are collector cars, but it's important we still enjoy them and get them out and use them.
  20. I missed this post or at least the photo of the 1600, I love it. Don't change a thing, other than detail it. Leave that patina paint on it and around the engine bay. What a fantastic find. Good luck finding your 240z .

  22. Original 260z 5 speed gear knob. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-5-speed-transmission-shift-lever-with-knob-/161426382943 Get it while it's cheap! OEM Hitachi Carbs anyone? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-unused-still-in-plastic-and-box-Datsun-240-Z-carburetors-/231338328793

    Twin cam head

Ok sorry I perhaps wasn't clear, and that submissive 4-6% improvement is 1 of those things that I feel is often mis-quoted. I think to look at it from that perspective is to totally miss the point. I'm talking about the author of that out-dated book - not you ZAZ. I know what the LY head was. However what I don't know much about is it's history..and it's eligibility in competition. So I did some digging and came across this. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,8835.msg85373.html#msg85373 As Alan mentions it wasn't just about a cylinder head, it was a complete package. What I'd like to know more about is the usage of the head and package and why Nissan was allowed to use these specialty cast heads in certain competitions. The 240ZR designation also appears to have been used in relation to some cars using this motor. However not all the rally cars were fitted with these motors and that's what I'd like to understand better. I guess I don't understand as much as I'd like to about racing sanctioning bodies and their rules of the time etc.. Everything I know about them I'm sure has come from a comment that Alan has posted on a forum somewhere at some point. It looks like the RB30 SOHC engine can derive it's origins and design back to the LY head. However I don't know much about the LY or RB30s so not sure how similar they are and how much was changed between them.

I have to say that in all the years of learning about S30z's these heads are something I know very little about and don't really understand all that well. Are the FIA Safari heads the same as the LY head in terms of concept and design? Perhaps I should start a new thread but I'd love to see detailed photos of these heads and the differences etc..
