  1. I like how even the car next to it was too ashamed to be identified so it's been pixelated out.
  2. http://performanceforums.com/forums/showthread.php?67240840-L23-Datto-stroker-build-(56k-LOL) Thought this might be useful for others to read since it covers an L-GATA build.
  3. This is on again in a few weeks (7th October). Sign up now if you're interested. You can contact the person below to enroll. Course Name: Introduction to Vehicle Restoration course commencing on the 7th of October, 2014 Geoffrey White Transport, Marine & Aviation Course Coordinator TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute, Ultimo College, Building W, Room G14, Ultimo NSW 2007 P: (02) 9217 4112 | F: (02) 9217 5434 | E: geoffrey.white27@tafensw.edu.au | www.sit.nsw.edu.au
  4. Thanks to all involved to help get those parts to us in Sydney. Cheers.
  5. It could probably be fixed with enough time and effort, but unless you have the skills it would probably be easier to source another bonnet in better condition. The thing is a good bonnet is likely to cost as much as the car. I wouldn't worry about the vents though, personally I hate the later vented bonnets on S30z's, prefer the raw straight lines of a non-fluted hood myself. It accentuates the bonnet's length.
  6. You can get a RHD S30z dashboard from Top Stage in carbon fiber. http://www.topstage.com/ Same as the 1 in this car.
  7. Hi mate, I'll send you a PM.
  8. That full kit looks appealing...
  9. Mate I appreciate that I'm just trying to work out how to get it to Jason's place so potentially James can bring it back with him in the Ute. It would make a good experimental piece for dashboard restoration and I'll be sure to document my method so others can also follow - should they choose to give it a go. Much like what I did with the Center Console and Steering Wheel resurrection threads.
  10. Why are you blokes over that side of the world wanting to do conversions to drive on the wrong side of the road? Is it a hipster fad or is there another reason?
  11. Well if anyone wants a second opinion on the car I've seen it in the flesh. Albeit not quite done yet and before it was tuned. Video here: It really does look lovely, it's the kind of car you could jump in and enjoy right away. All the hard work has been done.
  12. Hey guys, Thanks for the diagrams they are helpful, I understand the importance of setting up the lash pads and having the correct wear pattern on the rocker arms. However what confuses me is the base circle is where we machine or take out material to alter valve timing. I was always under the impression that it was the other end of the camshaft profile that was changed (the part that changes lift etc..) I thought it was the thickness of the lobe that dictated how long the valve was in an 'open state' for. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how removing material from the underside of the cam alters duration. Since in my mind that part of the cam is not exerting any effort on the valves themselves and should infact be doing nothing (leaving the valves closed). Perhaps I'm missing something obvious? For the longest time camshafts have been a mystery to me, so just trying to visualise how this changes the characteristics of the motor the valve timing sequence.
  13. Sorry to drag this slightly off topic, but if you look here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13624.msg148669.html#msg148669 You can see a number written on the camshaft. 22747 Is it likely this was a re-ground camshaft profile? If I get the vernier calipers out and measure the lobes will we be able to determine camshaft size and spec that way?
  14. I'd actually be interested in that dash if I had a cheap way of getting it to Sydney or Melbourne. Otherwise any idea what it would cost to freight? I think it would be expensive as they are pretty heavy.
  15. thread merged, it's been discussed a number of times now.
  16. So you supply the standard camshaft and they modify it to suit the given profile is that right? In that case does it matter what type of camshaft you supply?* i.e 240z A-Grind vs 280c or 280zx camshaft profiles? Can anyone of these be modified for the same outcome? Or is it better to start with a particular profile? Obviously this wouldn't apply to a new billet (like Schneider cams does). *ignoring the internally oiled vs spray bar aspect of the different camshaft profiles.
  17. No - not really, can you show me visually? The pointy end of the lobe would be the front right? That's the end that pushes down on the rocker arm. So how does changing the backside of it do anything?
  18. Might be an option? http://www.allmusclecarparts.com.au/webshop/index.php/datsun/240-260z.html By the time you sandblast, repair rust, hammer into shape etc.. It sometimes works out cheaper...
  19. Hey Tai, I have been giving the same thing a bit of thought on my budget build. I was originally going to just use the A-Grind cam and stick Triples on it, but I can't help but think the right camshaft profile along with compression increase thanks to flat top pistons and port matched triples would provide for a good bump, whilst keeping it all sensible and within budget on a basic refresh. I actually found this Japanese shop in Japan called Green Leaves Japan and this video shows a relatively quick 240z - I mean not amazingly mind blowing quick, but a nice little rig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FqYkdliZFE Apparently he's running standard everything (at least as best as I could gather with my back and forth Youtube commentary). I'd have thought that it was over carb'd and the bottom end would need work for 7000rpm but there ya go! Let me know how your discussion goes with Stewart Wilkins and Clive Cams.
  20. I think I'll be in for October, might be heading to Melbourne around then but nothing confirmed yet. So yes from me for now.
  21. Are we talking 19th or 26th of this month?
  22. Hey! I called you to bring the thing out on our last drive. I've even got the indicator stalk at my place waiting for you to pick it up. Just do what every other Australian does and take out a loan based on your built up equity (since property is going through the roof in this country). http://www.whocrashedtheeconomy.com.au/blog/household-debt/ What could possibly go wrong? I am of course being facetious, but I'd be sorry to see you sell it after so little use. Summer is here and today is a lovely day in Sydney, take it for a drive!
  23. New Zealand based rally Z. Sounds like an angry L-series.
  24. Has the head been ported? Possible that a water jacket was hit?
  25. Yeah I was tempted to bid but recognised the username with the highest bid, so I thought I'd let them slide. I honestly thought they would go for another couple of hundred than what they did. On a positive note given that they had a couple of minor cracks you don't have to get too precious about them now if you get a stone chip etc..
