  1. Reminds me of Mad Max (Falcon). Looks great.
  2. Yep, that's why I said use the buret kit above to determine cc of the chamber etc.. I think the E30 might be smaller than E31 or E88 but I wouldn't trust what you read on the internet as it's hard to verify this information and it's source. Much better to measure yourself and know for sure. I think "too high" compression is a bit of a misnomer, people tend to think anything above 10:1 is too high on a street car, but it really comes down to the engine set up and camshaft you're running. This article is quite good. http://www.hotrod.com/events/coverage/0606em-understanding-compression-ratio/ I'll admit I didn't fully grasp it all yet, it is the kind of thing that needs to be read more than once. I think the biggest draw back of the early cylinder heads is their chamber design, they are more likely to suffer detonation. The P90 is apparently good for reducing detonation which will allow for more adv. timing etc.. The other thing about the E30 is it has smaller valves than the later L28 heads like (N42) but it's not all about valve size anyway. There are other ways to get more flow than simply sticking big valves in it. Much better to blend the valve seats and get a good port job done and possibly un-shroud the valves. Sometimes smaller valves give better port speed.
  3. Ok so the downside to second hand units is that the masonite backing is almost always broken / perished / warped. Example of second hand. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240z-interior-passenger-door-panel-trim-/151449347404 OEM pair on eBay US (factor in postage to AU). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240z-interior-door-panels-NOS-/111546664198 I think it wouldn't go cheap enough to make the pair on eBay AU too expensive (like I say they are priced very well!) Reproduction Door Panel Cloth ($150 USD + Postage) and no masonite backing either! http://www.ebay.com/itm/DATSUN-240Z-260Z-280Z-2SEAT-DOOR-PANEL-CLOTH-SHEET-SET-PAIR-NEW-/161076126994 Finally this looks promising. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-1970-73-Door-Panel-Cover-Set-New-OEM-Reproduction-Choose-OEM-Color-/121333093907 Reproduction units, I'm not sure if they come with the backing, it seems from the description they do! See bold text below. Sadly my time in the US of A ends tomorrow. Otherwise I might have been able to bring some back with me. As for 260z trims, your SOL unless you want to spend big monies as mentioned above. Or willing to wait until someone in OZ is selling a good pair at a reasonable price. Not seen a pair in a LONNNGGG time.
  4. These are actually fairly priced. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-240Z-DOOR-TRIM-SET-BLACK-GENUINE-NOS-NISSAN-RARE-SPARES-ADELAIDE-/331385571164 Alternatively you can get the door trim material (for 240z) as reproduction material (in any colour) but you don't get the masonite backing for it. There was a guy on HybridZ.org doing carbon fiber or fiberglass door trims that could be used instead for the backing portion of the trim. However I'm not sure what the status with that was and if he actually made any in the end. It could work out cheaper doing it that way.
  5. Pics of aforementioned clips. I'm sure we can find them!
  6. FYI: http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m127917130#enlargeimg ~$170 AU
  7. You can CC the engine head to determine compression ratio. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/80950/10002/-1 Found this kit the other day, good for doing a 1 off rebuild.
  8. I have seen OEM 260z 2 seater ones but expect to pay $1200 at the least for these. Brand new condition. Can get 240z style ones cheaper around $700 - $800 a pair again brand new (OEM). Second hand good door trims don't come up for sale often. Alternative is to look for a pair of LHD ones which have an additional 2 hole for the grab handle that is fitted to passenger side doors. You could possibly deal with in a few ways. However by the time you pay for shipping from US and find a good second hand set etc.. Your only looking at a couple of hundred dollars difference between good second hand (with additional holes) and brand new OEM.
  9. And even then it's a punt as to weather or not you can actually give it an overbore. The l28 out of my car came back as being only good for a 1mm overbore not much else. Have a second block, going to see what it's like then decide which to use. How viable is it to resleeve a cylinder these days?
  10. I figured that would be the case, I guess motorsport is addictive now you've had some experience with it you want to take it further. Good luck with it, I'd love to get started at some point in the future.
  11. I saw this car at WTAC in Sydney this year, it was looking pretty neat. I didn't speak to the owner at the time, probably should have introduced myself. Anyway what was the main driver behind selling off the lime green 240z and going with this car? How come you didn't just develop the lime car further - since it was already a track car? Was this car much further ahead in that respect?
  12. It's not so much the brown, it's the big 280z bumpers I detest most. They totally ruin the S30z's clean lines.
  13. There was a 240z for sale in NSW recently for $7,500 but it was gone within 24 hours and it was the exception not the rule. Good luck but you have to be willing to take a punt and buy sight unseen in cases like that.
  14. Not seen that, shame it was a brown 280z of all colours and S30z's to use haha. But I have to say what a fantastically mediocre tune. Yet it has 9M views. Good to see more S30z's appearing in pop culture though.
  15. Any photos of the second door also?
  16. Totally agree, as I said it's nice to see it's not 100% flawless because with my own cars I sometimes beat myself up about things not being quite 100% right, like the diamond vinyl I installed not that long ago had some air pocked in it that just wouldn't be flattened out and removed. When I look at Kats car I see the same issue so I know it's not that I didn't do something 100% correct, rather that's just how it is. I guess I look at it like it's validation / vindication for myself.
  17. I'm pretty sure that's Kats car, as seen here: http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/ He's taken it to the US a few times I believe. I find the level of engineering and detail on the 432's in particular to be incredible. I mean it was 1969 when they were first built and the level of detail and the way everything was thought out, to me it blows my mind. Even the standard air box and oil coolers really are a work of art in terms of it's packaging and routing of hoses etc.. Actually seeing the video made me feel a little better, in the photos that car looked like everything was 100% perfect and immaculate but the video highlights the fact that not all components are in as new condition and have slight wear and patina on them. I guess it's kind of like meeting a model in person and discovering she's not quite as perfect as her photoshoot haha.
  18. Haha, have fun with it mate. I watched this on my flight to San Francisco yesterday, it was actually alright as far as this genre goes. Just don't get caught impersonating a police officer.
  19. Where's the siren and lights mate? I was wondering who went for the Japanese Patrol Car look. I see you bought those eBay wheels also. I'm thinking with my 72 240z I might do a bit of a tribute car of the Works Rally Cars with the black bonnet, sponsors, dual exhaust etc.. Since the paint has its flaws may as well have a bit of fun. I bet this gets a few looks alright?
  20. Maybe, but I still think it's fairly priced and a good car from the sounds of it and from the look of the photos. Would have preferred the original 905 red but other than that I think it's been done well and looks quite tidy. I don't for a second doubt the amount spent on it.
  21. Any photos? Or was it a rain out?
  22. As long as you are happy and you feel you did the right thing that's all that matters mate. I hope you don't regret it later but as Ledge says it's only money and only metal . Hopefully you can get stuck into your next project now.
  23. Yes, try find me another 1 with the face plate and antenna switch for a better price. I got mine from a member without the faceplate or knobs, or the antenna switch. Now I have to find the knobs and faceplate (someone was nice enough to donate a switch to me). The later faceplate looks like this: I'm not sure, but from what I've seen only the early cars got this Hitachi radio in the US (1970), it seems our market may have got it for all year 240z's (but I have yet to confirm this 100%). Just going by what I've seen in different year cars here. It seems the Japanese market was different yet again and may not have got the same early radio in their home market cars. Check out Kats 432 interior photos here. Whilst they are refurbished and this makes a difference to prices, they have also been on the market a while. However it's not just postage, you gotta factor in conversion rate (AUD is sliding), then PayPal fees (or crappy conversion rate) and if they don't declare at less than $1000 AUD value (insurance) you'll have to pay GST on it / import duties etc.. Hope I've somewhat answered it above? See also this page. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14979.0.html Both HS30 00149 and HS30 00151 have the same early Hitachi radio, hence I had to get 1. I missed out on this 1 recently. http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w112939564 But with Yahoo! Auctions I'd have broker fee's + shipping costs etc.. So it would have cost me at least $250 AU by the time I got it at a guess...and I don't know how high the other bidder would have gone + faceplate has a crack in corner. PS: That radio is cheap compared to finding and restoring early Jeco Twin Knob Rally Clocks
  24. It's actually very rare to see 1 for sale these days also. As far as I'm aware currently there is no way to get the faceplate reproduced for this particular model. Which is what your early car would have had.
  25. Come to next years Xmas BBQ I plan to have my red 240z there next time.
