SnapOn Air Compressor feedback - any good?
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Tools and Equipment
Thanks guys, I thew the guy an offer last night, will see what he says. Told me he picked it up for a bike project to use with a sander and now that's done it just sits there. So I figured I'd throw an offer in and see what happens. -
SnapOn Air Compressor feedback - any good?
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Tools and Equipment
Is there anyway to determine if a compressor is flogged out or in poor shape? So if I look at this 1 is there anything to look for to determine if it's in good working order? I've heard they shouldn't be too loud (in that you shouldn't need ear plugs standing next to it) as 1 indicator of condition when it's on. -

Is your 1 a SnapOn unit? -
It's hiding a lot of nasties... make no mistake. Actually mine was ok on the top part, but as you can see underneath it's rotted out, you can have a look under your slam panel in the rear of the car where the lights go and feel underneath if it's all crumbling apart you'll know what you expect when you remove it. Thanks for that, link to that post is here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16091.msg170984.html#msg170984 I got some butchers paper from Bunnings yesterday so I can trace out a template and then cut the pieces I need. Since there was literally nothing left of mine it's a bit harder to know exactly what contour or shape it follows. These photos help.

Hi Guys, I've asked for the model no. but looking at this because it's not far from me to collect and price seems good for SnapOn. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/leichhardt/power-tools/snap-on-air-compressor-large-size-240-volt/1081964465 Given it's a SnapOn model rather large tank etc.. I figured it must be ok? Could possibly paint a car with this? Unfortunately the label with HP rating etc.. seems a bit hard to read.

Thanks for sharing this tip. It's what makes the site so useful.

Rear license plate light. http://page3.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c495577054 A mere $700 AU.... Ouch.... -
Yeah if you could send them through that would be helpful. I certainly wasn't expecting this much rust to be honest with you, but the lower beaver panel is also looking a little sad so I'm now thinking about actually unpicking the whole thing. Since I'm worried that behind the beaver panel will be more nasty surprises hiding for me. That rear beaver panel is Nissan NOS I believe. I'm not 100% sure if this is the part no.? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,11095.msg111754.html#msg111754 240Z Genuine Nissan "ASSY-PANEL REAR" - 79100-E4650 But I think the only way to find 1 is find a dealer or Nissan parts person who has 1 in storage for many years. I found this thread from a member on here. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/117744-the-midnight-warrior-71-datsun-240z-australia/ Shows the rear slam area being repaired, I think Scoota did the work on this car?

Automotive Panel Craft Introduction
gav240z replied to wayne080866's topic in Automotive Panel Craft
Hi Wayne, New beaver panels would be a good addition. But quite tricky to make as 1 piece I'd imagine... Refer to rear slam panel repair thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16148.msg170933/topicseen.html -
So there is quite a few difficult to spot, spot welds on each corner. Hopefully these photos will help you see where to look. After removing the old slam panel (which had some bog in it cover 1 or 2 spot welds for some unknown reason). I added it to my trophy room of rusted s30z parts... Some rust in the bottom left hand corner where the tail light goes (passenger side). Driver side has a small pin-hole also. Just placing the rare spares slam panel down there to see how it will look. Question, since this area has quite a bit of rust and is now missing, has anyone got photos of what the area is supposed to look like that they can share? I'm going to have to figure out a way to fabricate this area. Going to look out for 1 of these also...

Wow setting the bar high there, 115 metallic blue 240z? Should go the blue on blue combo. Love the blue interior. Great car.

I was watching these... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260z-NOS-coupe-door-trim-card-interior-panel-2-seater-/261920490589 Seem to have ended early? sold off perhaps? I can try find you a pair but these are expensive when they do come up.. I'm also not sure how to tell the diff between early and late ones. Any photos of the ones you have? Particularly the rear of them? RE: username, looks like a name spammers usually use.

So I bought another spot weld cutter kit. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120678177633 http://r.ebay.com/7K8dun I bought another kit a while back which cost around $40-$60 but I think this is much better value for money, comes with it's own case. It has different types of spot weld cutter. I quite like the drill bit piece as I've used these before and found them better than the ones that require a pre-drilled pilot hole. It also has spare tips in case they break (which is what happened to my last 1). Even comes with it's own little case. Postage was free and quick (within a couple of days).

Same problem the FD RX-7's have really, people modify without knowing what they are doing and boom there goes an apex seal out the exhaust. The tune is crucial to the long term reliability of either car (RB26/ 13B) I'm sure. I considered an R32 GTR but anything with a 4WD gear box put me off, sounds like a nightmare to change a clutch in. I do think they are cemented as a classic car in the future though. Good original AU delivered cars are already fetching $50K at Shannon's auctions. Examples below. http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2010-shannons-custom-and-collectable-vehicle-auction-at-motorex/nissan-skyline-r32-gt-r-coupe-1-of-100-australian-delivery-1/#.VYNlxBOqr1k http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2014-shannons-melbourne-late-summer-classic-auction/nissan-skyline-r32-gt-r-midori-enhanced-coupe/#.VYNlzBOqr1k http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2013-shannons-sydney-spring-classic-auction/nissan-skyline-r32-gt-r-coupe-australian-delivered/#.VYNl2hOqr1k The grey imports are still cheap...in comparison. I must say what I enjoy about the S30z's is how easy they are to work on compared with new stuff...That is part of the attraction with older cars for me.

I suspect part of the problem was bigotry and bias because they were Japanese made had a big part in it. I have to admit I'm somewhat like that now with Korean cars. I'm like pfft, people won't want a classic Hyundai etc.. but then I realise it was probably similar to the way the Japanese cars were viewed not that long ago. I'm sure Hyundai will make a cult car eventually - just none that I've seen yet.

http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u79448880 - personally I'd avoid this 1, it looks pretty rough and they are already thin metal to begin with, a bit of rust and they somewhat tricky to repair. I'd say you'd need a TIG welder to really control the heat you put into them when repairing because a MIG would just blow right through the metal. http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h203181875 - missing the mesh, but frame looks ok actually. If you can find the mesh anywhere? It's like a honeycomb shape. These are the only 2 I could find on there at the minute. I managed to find a NOS 1 a while ago, all the fasteners are yellow-chromate plated and it's the original grey colour, just some minor surface rust / storage damage in 1 place. I've kept that 1 for myself. I'd want silly money for it if I was to sell it. Most of the Grille's I see or sale are in very average shape. The trouble I find is that often they only include 1 or 2 photos in the auctions making it very hard to really know what shape they are in. I suspect in Japan the export market grille's are popular - grass is always greener and all that.
-
To clarify I wasn't say buy this car, just giving an example of what could be out there. I've actually had some issues trying to find a good 240z to import. So it's not for a novice to try. That's for sure...

Ahh yeah Harry's Garage. Worth watching his videos, I hate him and his money haha.

Interesting I recall something about that mirror positioning on these being unique to a specific year. Personally I think it looks whack, but also kinda cool. I don't see why it couldn't be real, perhaps it had an issue 10-15 years ago and the owner couldn't afford to fix it, stored it up and it's deteriorated since. Is it meant to be in Australia?

Actually I'm not sure if it is a 432-R din pocket, it might be a PS30 din pocket only? Usually the 432-Rs had a blanking plate like they did for the clock. So I may have made the conclusion accidentally. I wonder if you could order a Fairlady Z without a radio back in the day? http://www.classiczcars.com/gallery/image/34039-432r-is-beautiful-but/ Looks like the choke was mounted here instead of the transmission tunnel which was totally spartan with a leather like cover and ignition switch in position of normal choke/hand throttle.
