  1. No hard feelings at all, my OCD is my own making. I have to try and stop myself sometimes. I totally understand and want to drive my car in the not too distant future also. But I also know that if I don't fix things a certain way and paint goes on the car I'll always look at the flaws. .
  2. Wait wait wait... was HS30 00643 originally a blue car with blue interior? I have not yet in all my experience seen another AU delivered 240z in this combination. I have to say it's my favorite colour combo so would be happy to learn that AU market cars were available in this combination. If this is the case it must be a very rare combo.
  3. I got to the US once or sometimes twice three times a year for work (never quite sure how many times). I have a contact in SFO I can send stuff to. I brought a bunch of stuff back with me last time. The only trouble with larger items is it won't fit in traditional luggage. You can go oversize luggage for additional costs, but I worry about damage especially to fragile stuff. The other alternative is to go with a pallet and ship it, yes you will get stung for import duties with customs but there is no way around this I'm afraid. I haven't shipped anything via a pallet yet, have been looking to import door shells, roof turrets, bonnets, 1/4 panels etc.. But.. I have some concerns dealing with costs on this end. I need to do more research or maybe speak with a broker. Another option is to source via Japan, I've found some items from Japan are better priced and costs a lot less to ship however this isn't always the case. AUD vs YEN at the moment is sub-optimal. AUD vs USD seems to be better at time of writing.
  4. With all the Jeff updates going on these days, maybe we should call it Jeffzcar.com?
  5. I like early Split Enz before they became Crowded House. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6d8eKvegLI
  6. As good as the retrosound unit is, it's the aesthetics of the original hitachi unit I love most.
  7. I find it interesting that the owner did the following: 1. Went with the vented rear hatch. 2. Went with vertical defrost glass. Early type. 3. Went with earlier S30Z tail lights and surround and noted they are very popular in Japan. 4. It looks like he went to a 71A Gearbox (same gearbox used behind Skyline GTRs and S20 powered early PS30's and of course early 240z's in Australia). - For some reason 1 of the parts I was happiest to get for my own early girl was the 71A Gearbox and tail shaft. All this back-dating of parts etc.. reminds me of a lot of 911 SC's that get back-dated to look like earlier 911's.
  8. I've got a magazine with what appears to be the same car, note the mirrors on it? Those are export market fender mirrors. (see 2006 update) http://datsun30z.o.oo7.jp/fairady.html I'm pretty sure Alan has mentioned a Fairlady 260z was in the making before the idea was shit-canned. It's likely a Fairlady 260ZG was also on the cards but cancelled. I see a lot of GS30's (2+2's) in Japan with the Gnose treatment, so perhaps they should have gone ahead? Edit yep found it. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14263-jdm-fairlady-z-s30s31/?p=169669
  9. Jason? Dat2kman? Picking on those Air Cooled 911s?
  10. Thanks so much, very helpful. Did you post the spotters ad or is that someone else?
  11. Somewhere in Japan, circa 1980s.. Check out the Skylines, and RX-7.
  12. Seems too cheap for such a car... Shame chassis no. is given as L24 155412. No vents in 1/4 panel, wonder if it is indeed a 71? Or a 70.
  13. Haha way to make me feel like an OCD nut. Your hatch looked relatively good to start with compared with mine. I've got 4 early hatches all of them have taken some form of beating...filled with bog etc.. Your rubber seal must have been stuffed at some point to get the rust under the seal like that. The hatch I'm repairing was all distorted on the bottom edge hence the decision to fabricate the lower edge. As much as it's taking me time, I have to say I enjoy learning this stuff. Get a lot of satisfaction out of it. Good to see you making more progress.

  15. Which pieces are left? Is it the ones in the first post that haven't been strike through?
  16. ColinFurze is awesome for crazy engineering ideas. Motorised drift trike!
  17. Revive Jalopy Parts appear to be sold under user: punsupon on Yahoo! Auctions. http://sellinglist.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/user/punsupon?userID=punsupon&u=%3bpunsupon&ngram=1
  18. That's pretty cool indeed. If you decided to sacrifice the internals then maybe it doesn't matter what case you use? I'd feel a little bad scrapping the original electronics. www.240zrubberparts.com - has reproduction face plates and knobs etc.. So you may be able to send them to get used for a conversion to a modern style unit whilst retaining the original looking face. http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/5556500 Apparently the later 260z/280z/Fairlady Z radio's may line up with the earlier faceplate. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/53334-wtb-hitachi-radio/
  19. I came across this blog, which is interesting to see how a car has evolved over the years. http://datsun30z.o.oo7.jp/fairady.html
  20. Italian weber's are meant to be better than the Spanish ones. I think generally speaking Solex and Mikuni are regarded as best carbs for an L-series but older quality webers are pretty good. I drove a Triple weber 280z in San Francisco recently and it felt good in terms of response etc.. Like fuel injection. Not idea if they leak...I could ask the owner? I can get 40 and 44 Mikuni's but wonder if price is the deciding factor here for those asking?
  21. Yep, 2+2's are pretty much different in every way from the windscreen pillars back.
  22. Hi Guys, I just thought I'd share this device. I originally found it here: http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/showthread.php/746-AM-Radio-Adapter-for-the-Ipod-MP3 Then found the manufacturer here. https://rediscoveradio.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1 Before you know it, you could be enjoying some: Peppino Gagliardi - Che Vuole Questa Musica Stasera Via your OEM Hitachi Radio . 1:17 in
  23. Yes I've had some very 1 sided discussions with his subscribers. Let's just say if brains were dynamite the majority of them wouldn't have enough to blow their ears off.
