    E88 Head Info

Yes positive, my 72 240z has an L28 bottom end and the E88 head that was originally on the L24 block was put on the L28 block. The later E88 heads were fitted to L24 in Nissan Skyline's (R30).
  2. I would opt for Shannon's as my first choice, however since I have multiple cars on the policy the FD RX-7 tips the scales at $2,000 + per year which is crazy! So I found another company called Enthusiast http://enthusiast.com.au/ I believe the company was started by a friend of the fella who started Shannon's (they were school friends I think?). I have found them good to deal with so far, HOWEVER I've never made any claims. I hope I never have to.
  3. Welcome Jeff, I'll be sure to catch up on your 911 build. An RSR is probably my favorite look for the early 911's. I have already forwarded your channel to a friend who is a Porsche nut.
  4. Just noticed the Sport Corner plate in the engine bay .

    E88 Head Info

I think a big part of it is just the way these things work on the Internet, someone mentions the P90 is the "best flowing head" which means what exactly? And then all of a sudden that's the head everyone wants. Not really considering what they want from the car or the build. It's a shame so many R30's were junked, those E88's along with them!
  6. Is that head from an R30 skyline? The EFI version of the E88? If so we can add it to the reference guide here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/4286-overview-of-l6-engine-heads/

    E88 Head Info

Kidney shaped chamber on E88 head can be seen here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11421-a-lime-240z-spruce-up/?p=178531 Not sure if it's the Early Skyline R30 EFI head I'll have to ask. But you can see the chamber shape is definitely different to the earlier open chamber.
  8. My hope is that an increase in values (of NOS parts but also cars) will mean more demand for good reproduction parts. It's amazing what you can get for Early 911's now thanks to their values going through the roof!
  9. Different strokes and all that... but I actually like the steel wheel look. So I'd only put them on at car shows or in the garage I think. I'd be more worried about them getting stolen by some prick than actually falling off.
  10. It's not bad buying really, when you consider to re-chrome my tired caps it's probably going to cost $150+ for each corner, then you gotta paint them, then get the center emblem's plastic chromed and paint them also. I reckon you could invest $200+ for each corner, but you gotta find the caps first. These were not the 'earliest' type but that's a bit moot I think. So you could invest $1,500+ sourcing and restoring these things, maybe more now? The caps are getting very hard to find. Can find lots of the later style, but not the earlier ones. Then finding TOPY wheels is another challenge. Can find plenty of later ones, but earlier 70 date stamped 4.5j. That's hard. I'm always watching lol..
  11. Yeah heartbreaker, I was watching that auction and saw 1 bid at $1,500... I didn't think they would go that high. I thought maybe $2,000 USD at most. I recently picked up 2 more 'stray' caps in need of restoration. So I've got enough to make 3 complete sets now. I was going to keep 2 for myself and sell the third restored set but I am starting to think I'll just hang onto stuff now....
  12. Have you tried this on the exterior trim? I might give it a go.

  14. So no photos yet, but my mum was kind enough to pick up the bumper from Vinnies in Dandenong and said the bumper and accessories (overriders) look great. So it passed the mum test lol.. will try and get photos.
  15. $12k doesn't go that far these days, even for a 2+2 it will only get you a decent driver that has been relatively well kept, but rough paint, tired interior and dirty engine bay. Keep in mind that 2+2 values have been kept low for a long time and so many cars haven't been properly looked after as a result. This makes finding a good 1 hard. Pretty rare to be honest, but maybe more likely than finding a 2 seater. For some reason 2+2's have lasted longer with the same owners perhaps because of the extra seats? This is really my anecdotal observation than hard fact, but I feel like most 240z's have been through many hands. Where as 2+2's were in the family a long time. Anything that is single owner, with original books, radio and carbs is now quite a find. As you know, a restored car is going to be far cheaper in the long run. Some 2+2 bits and pieces are getting very hard to source, interior panels for example and rust repair sections need to be hand made and not available off the shelf. This is because 2+2's are relatively less common and have been less popular on a global level. A lot of reproduction parts now exist for 2 seaters but 2+2's are often forgotten. The cost of restoring a 2+2 and 2 seater is going to be pretty similar. The value of each when done though will be quite different.
  16. 2 Door 510 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Datsun-510-/122016553460 Sold for $18,000 USD on eBay. Not long ago that was the upper end for similar S30Z's. Now 510's are catching up. Still cheap in my opinion.
  17. $2000 is dirt cheap.. the question is what is the body like? Any photos. Difficult to tell from a description. It certainly sounds like a bargain to me.. Worth more in parts than asking price.

  20. Heart breaker...
  21. Yeah E30 head must have come from a Skyline or similar. Speak to Lou Mondello in Moorabbin for 71A box parts.
