  1. That's why I sold my LD28 - I was originally going to build a 3.1 ltr stroker for HS30 00150 - but something else came up (which will be revealed in time) and I decided to go a stock rebuild to keep the budget under control. I also decided to go with an L24 block and retain SU's. But my car is not about horse power either, got other cars for that sort of thing. The rarity of the LD28 is also what put me off using it, RB cranks are far more available and if anyone complains about it not being an 'original' L-series part, well there is nothing really period correct about the diesel crank anyway.
  2. I really must go soon! I've done a lot of travel but never Japan and yet it's probably the first place I should have gone! Seeing the condition of the Z432 in the museum and it's flaws, was a bit like seeing the man behind the curtain.
  3. haha, nice find. They do indeed look like 200B caps. It could be because the original S30Z ones were actually quite expensive. I recall talking to someone here who told me back in the day they were the equivalent of 1 weeks wages for a single cap. So if 1 went missing you probably found the next best thing. I'm going to guess it was a 74 260z because early 260z's tended to come with steel wheels and caps and later ones were almost always fitted with the 260z alloys (part no. 40300-N3200) we see so often.
  4. And that's helpful how exactly?
  5. How about this blue 2+2 with an FJ20DET? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/nundah/cars-vans-utes/260z-datsun-turbo/1115538557 Good motor that old 4 banger...not sure about ghetto gear shifter arrangement. Or this car looks relatively solid. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/south-perth/cars-vans-utes/datsun-260z-2-2-1977-no-trades-/1115266136
  6. Did you try https://www.e-go.com.au/ ?
  7. Discussions on HLS30 00064 are going nuts. http://bringatrailer.com/2016/07/10/one-of-the-very-first-25k-mile-1970-datsun-240z/ Previously also discussed here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55453-0064/?page=1 It previously had bids on eBay around $50,000 USD but looks like the sale has fallen through and has been re-listed.
  8. Cheapest way into an S30Z is to buy a rust free North American 280z 2 seater and import it across and leave it as LHD. It will likely cost you close to $20,000 AUD by the time it's imported and on the road, however you can easily remove those bumpers and it will look just like our late 260z's. Having driven 1 now in LHD configuration it takes a little getting used to but it's the same experience really. You might be able to put an RB25 in it for around $15k on top? Although once all is said and done probably cost you closer to $20k for the engine conversion.
  9. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/5677830649.html 240z Series 1 - 1971 - $16,000 (LA) Build date: 1/70 HLS30-18218
  10. So does it say 918 or 110? Enquiring minds must know!
  11. Here is a glimpse of a Honda S600 coupe. Victoria St 091 Flemington-Kensington 1984 sheet 59 19 by Graeme Butler, on Flickr
  12. I know what you mean, I also thought it was interesting to see just how many old Mazda's there were, in some cases the piston derivative but also quite a few old rotaries parked on streets and in people's driveways. The sort of cars that wouldn't be left out now, for fear of being stolen. A lot of old Datsun's on the road also and a few Toyota's for sure. What I find interesting is the way that certain cars just quietly vanish from our roads and nobody really notices until they see 1 on the road again. There was 1 in car in there I just couldn't place. I suspect it was an Austin Marina GT. I wonder how many of the cars in those photos are still around today!
  13. You missed a set here: http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h231407610 Those "Nichira" rear mufflers can be bought as a reproduction items from Jay Ataka. A bit of info about the company here. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/garages/datsun-nissan-garage/14123-has-anybody-heard-of-a-nichira-exhaust-for-a-2000-roadster and here: http://jdm-car-parts.com/blogs/news/16149728-fact-about-factory-muffler-on-early-datsun-240z Reproduction unit here: http://jdm-car-parts.com/blogs/news/15973536-original-oem-type-muffer-and-down-pipe-finally-launched Prices seem very reasonable to me.
  14. It looks like 918 Kalahari Tan to me, but perhaps a bit faded over the years and the camera lighting is making it look more red-ish than orange? I am curious what number it is, my (1973 Datsun 240z (HS30 102895) was also this shade of 'orange' so wonder if they were sister cars? Although mine was manual.
  15. If you are not going to do any of the work yourself. You should probably buy this.. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-240Z-1973/SSE-AD-4118194/?Cr=0 It will likely work out cheaper.
  16. What a car! What a time capsule. Good to see the Hitachi radio TM-1081ZB(S) (yeah I remember the model no. off the top of my head now) still in there. Very very rare to find a 240z like this in Australia now. Even the spark leads look original.. I am sure it will find a good home, just hope it stays in Australia.
  17. Might be good to clarify if the camshafts are the externally oiled spray bar type or the internally oiled sort. I know Les Collins needed a few of the latter a while back.. Ran out of them.
  18. I doubt this was originally that shade of 'burgundy' as it looks like a '240z' shell. Look at the rear tail light garnish area, I'd say it was originally brown. Not sure how rust free a Hawaiian car would be? It looks ok in photos. I can actually get turrets in the US relatively easily. It's the shipping part that is difficult. I'm kind of working on it with a contact I have on the West Coast, along with a bunch of Topy wheels, going to put it all in a container.
  19. Ferrari GTO replica. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lismore/cars-vans-utes/1974-ferrari-other-coupe/1118185508 $29,000.00 Negotiable Lismore NSW.
  20. Yeah it was listed here also. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/kurmond/cars-vans-utes/datsun-260z-2-seater/1118106729 Reckons he could have sold it 3x over today..
  21. C110 Coupe. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240k-c110-skyline-/122040424328 Looks rusty. Best described as for parts...
  22. Hey Guys, Someone posted a link to these photos on Facebook and I was going through and enjoying seeing some of the classic cars parked in the streets of Melbourne. Full album here. (Multiple Pages) Finally found a 260z 2+2 in someone's driveway. Shields St 057 Flemington-Kensington sheet 06 08 by Graeme Butler, on Flickr
  23. Hey ScottB you can move up to 2nd. I'm out, got a few other expenses to take care of this month.
  24. If these are 44's and not 40's I'm very interested.. Just to clarify I assume Scott is first in line here, so not trying to jump any queues.
  25. Is it Silver? Think I recall seeing this car before.
