Where have you been hiding that? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12178-datsun-greygray-paint/ It looks like some of those shades of gray might be the original hubcap and rear garnish trim colour?
-
Yes I know but I figured some parts could have been retained. Usually P90 heads had the big NISSAN type covers. But who knows? @Curtis do I spy a 71A box still in it? Bell housing seems to indicate it?

Pretty sure colour changes were the same across markets. There is a lot of colours to cover, also some markets got colours that others didn't. Like GP Maroon on the 240ZG. But that is more exception than rule. This is a good starting point but it's not the whole story. http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/ The earlier colours (69-71) tended to be: 905 Red 920 Gold 918 Orange 907 Green 903 Blue 901 Silver 904 White It seems that around the 71 date range they introduced: 919 - Yellow 112 - Yellow/Lime Then later on in 72+ 110 red 115 Blue metallic Around late 72/73 113 Green metallic 114 Brown metallic That's just my observation..

Hey Curtis, Do you know what it's original colour was? Was it 905 red or Safari Gold? It almost looks like it was Safari gold under the red, but quite unusual for the interior and engine bay to get re-painted. The butterscotch door trims and the floors (looks like hints of 920 Gold or rust lol) throw me. Car #99 was 907 Green. PS: Interesting that it has the Nissan OHC cover and not the Nissan 2400 OHC cover.. Although these things could have been changed. This has gotta be a June / July build date car. So right around the cut off point for that cover from my best estimates.

Thanks Locky, I was going to call him and ask more questions but glad you posted it here.

A couple more photos from the article above. And this image is from the leader page of the original Hemi conversion article. Which is now a broken link above.

http://car.kapook.com/view58903.html Harry's car now has an RB26. Google Translate as the original article is in Thai.

Not ringing any immediate bells I'm afraid. I'll keep it in mind, it may come to me.

As I said on the phone the other day, I reckon you should keep this 1 personally .

Not stupid at all, a very wise thing to do in my opinion.

Unloading My Stash Of 240 And 260 2 Seater Panels. Melb

A minimum amount is a reserve in a sense.. I think the only way you can start an auction on eBay at $0 and have a reserve set (that isn't know) is to be an advanced seller or use the advanced eBay auction set up. It's a massive pain in the butt to do I've found... So instead you set a minimum bid - which is a reserve price in a way. Guess it's all semantics. -

Hey Andrew, I'm interested in the rear 1/4 panel that has been repaired around the petrol filler area. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222238407097 Do you know who did the repair work on it? Do you know if it was repaired using a Mig welder? Just trying to determine if there is any distortion or low/ high spots around the repair. -
Old guy's are great, if they remember your name correctly hey Peter?

You couldn't hand shape and make 1 for $250. Therefore in my opinion the rare spares skin is cheap. But as Mark said you need to fettle a bit with it and it is slightly thicker steel than OEM so a bit heavier and harder to fold the lip over the edges of the frame.
-
haha controversial indeed. I understand completely about getting bare metal into some kind of paint / protection otherwise you end up chasing your tail. I think older filler products were not as good as new ones. My tafe teacher told me how a sales guy was doing a demo of their new product for the school and he showed how you could apply modern fillers on top of clear coat without issue. So I think it very much comes down to the type of product you're using. The thing I don't like about using it directly on bare metal is that body filler can absorb water and lead to rust underneath (if not sealed / applied correctly). I saw some evidence of this when I stripped my bonnet on 1 or 2 spots. So as you say it is up for debate and in fact that's just another reason I like lead fill where feasible / practical. Over the plastic stuff. Interested to see how you go.

Just had a look on DoneDeal.ie (which is like Gumtree over there). Quite a few GT4's on the market. https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-st185-gt4-celica/13270833?campaign=3 https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyoya-celica-gt4/13150606 https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-celica-gt4/13053687 https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-celica-gt4-mint-st205-4wd-turbo/12965672 https://www.donedeal.ie/rallycars-for-sale/toyota-celica-gt4-rally-car/12942039 They don't salt the roads in Ireland, but the weather still has an impact on cars in terms of longevity and rust. Did the GT4's have water/air intercoolers?
-
So you'll add filler over the undercoat?
-
May have sold for asking price, over $80k AUD.
-
Since we're on the topic I am curious about the ST165 GT4's were they ever delivered locally? I recall seeing a few ST205's in Ireland also actually.

To the OP. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-datsun-280z-2/ I reckon a good 280z 2 seater can still be snapped up relatively cheaply. The 240z and 260z's have already started to soar in value but the later 280z's have lagged due to the hideous bumpers etc.. But they come with a 2.8ltr, have a stiffer body and are fuel injected (all positives if you ask me). -
Well sometimes the question doesn't have an immediate answer, but all these years later it looks like the Black 240z with the Hemi has shown up in Japan. https://www.facebook.com/708176415926972/photos/a.803449033066376.1073741861.708176415926972/1073595836051693/?type=3&theater

Maybe some day they will put my face in glossy brochures and I'll be a model a part time model. That's when I'll know I've made it.
