It's the attention to detail on this build that blows my mind. I'll hopefully get down to WTAC this year and check it out!

Could Someone Give Me Their Opinion On These Carbs?
gav240z replied to Chris_Hamilton's topic in General Discussions
I saw them on eBay, wasn't real keen on the Solex/Mikuni stampings being ground off.. Price is good considering if you're willing to take a gamble on them being in good shape? -
Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I recall looking at Z432's priced at $80k. I recall looking at 2+2's worth $3-5k. I recall buying my first 240z at $3,500. I recall HS30-H Fairlady 240ZG's being $40k and thinking they were expensive. I remember many folks telling me original S30Z's will never be worth as much as modified ones because people liked flares, big wheels and engine swaps. I recall people saying that Japanese cars will never be classics. I remember a lot of things... . Of course it's easy to say these things in hindsight too.. -

Agree re: XD Falcon, but these are not XD Falcon's. Demand for S30Z's right now is red hot. Well restored 2 seater S30Z's in Japan are selling around $60-$70k mark. For the more special models much more. Even the humble L-GATA KGC10's are selling at crazy prices now (around $100K AUD). -
I was going to post the same thing. It's weird because the course I'm doing is being discussed as if it's going to get shit canned soon. They have been saying it since I started it though!

Disagree, have you tried restoring said vehicle for under $60k to that level? Not to mention initial purchase price... I know of a couple of good 260z 2 seaters that have sold for more than $50k and 1 wasn't recently...(in fact maybe 10 years back now). -

You're talking to the guy who had the "UP" stamp replicated on the Rally Clock Oscillator Box... Having said that, if I could find a good FRP bonnet that was an accurate replica of the Z432-R style bonnet, I'd paint it flat black and be happy with that as an alternative (but I still want a good steel bonnet also!).

Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone has a bonnet they would consider selling? Refer to here; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12272-separating-bonnet-skin-and-frame/page-2 My bonnet is not bad and could be fixed, but it's going to take significant time and effort to get it 'right'. So I am looking at shortcuts (although it may short cut some good learnings so I'm not sure what i'll do yet). I just wanted to weigh up options first. Can we vented or non vented, rusty or not rusty. But hopefully not previously bent in the front right hand corner. Please post pics of what you have and feel free to send me a PM with what you'd like to get for it. I do have a spare bonnet but not really sure what lurks below the primer...

Thoughts On Left Hand Vs. Right Hand Drive Z
gav240z replied to Webby's topic in General Discussions
It depends what you want out of the car I suppose? A 280z offers F.I and a more refined ride. A 240z is the better investment, no doubt. -

By the way that 71 is being sold by the same person who sold this Blue on Blue 240z. https://goo.gl/photos/bdw8hkXhpNdhqm8a9 I recall it was listed around $50k USD a year or 2 ago now. I would love to own a Blue on Blue S30Z. This car was really well restored! -

It is a bit on the higher side for a 280z, but it just goes to show there is demand for good clean S30Z's. I can't tell you how many heaps of junk there is for sale at any given time over there. It's pretty rare to find a 280z in this condition. You would have a hard time bringing a lesser example up to the spec of this car. Having said that a 71 240z failed to go higher than 16k on Bat not long ago. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-9/ It's now on eBay with a 24k reserve. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-240z-/302059325933 Looking closely there is a couple of questionable areas that were painted over during the repaint (courtesy light switches) etc.. and the unoriginal colour seem to put folks off. So BAT can be a bit of a strange place for auctions. Definitely more informed buyers but sometimes they bring the mood down in the comments. Bit of a negative echo chamber at times. eBay can be equally as odd mind you! -
If you want the entire short block go for it, I only want the P90 head myself. But have no immediate method of collecting it from the ACT.

Thanks George, I saw the video but didn't think it was in there doh! I was a bit hesitant to play around with them because I was trying to repair another repair and blew it up I think. LOL. In fairness I was messing around with it when the power was on trying to fix a poor reception / power issue. I did improve it, but it went bang not long after when I think I shorted something by accident. It wasn't an S30Z radio after all, so now it's spare parts. With these I wouldn't mess with them while connected to a power source for exactly that reason.
-
Are you willing to separate head and block? OR want it gone in 1 package?

There is a few splits in the metal as a result of the impact, so I decided to oxy weld them up and patch them. But after talking with my teacher at Tafe he said I should probably fabricate the lower edge where it's most damaged and weld it in. So I started with a paper template (using the good side as a guide and will flip and reverse for the right hand side) and have started to make a section (not photographed). Thing is, it's going to take quite a bit of work to get this bonnet up to standard. So I am actually contemplating sourcing another. Anyone got a spare bonnet? Or got a bonnet that has a good lower right hand side? Can be vented or non vented..
-
So bit of a mixed update. Before heading to Tafe I decided to try and mock up the bonnet on the car, given that the skin was not attached properly to the frame it's difficult to get a true sense of how everything will look. Since I had removed the bonnet latch mechanism I couldn't completely shut the bonnet. You can see the front right side was about an inch short of the headlight scoop (only roughly placed with fender not fastened down etc..).

Hey George, I'm trying to find the thread where you showed your radio disassembled TM-1081ZB(S), I was talking to someone who can restore these radio's and he mentioned that complete disassembly for re-cad plating the housing would add significant labour to the job. But after seeing the results on my Rally Clocks I think it's a must. Do you have a link to the thread or any information you can share regarding difficulty separating the circuit board and housing? I think a couple of wires are soldered to the chassis correct? Photos attached of sexy cad plating. .

Thoughts On Left Hand Vs. Right Hand Drive Z
gav240z replied to Webby's topic in General Discussions
I may be able to help with sourcing a relatively rust free LHD car but it would be a project... I'll be heading to the US in October so would also be able to inspect a couple in person. There might even be the possibility of a RHD Fairlady Z shell (72 mode), which could be imported. -

So did you win? $16k is a good but fair price in my opinion. -
