  1. I haven't updated this thread in a bit, so thought I would provide a tiny update. This undertray was a little beat up and looking sad with flakey paint. So because I was spending some time in the sandblaster today I decided to give it a clean up and beat it back into shape. It's looking pretty good now, but there was a dent on 1 side that's caused it to stretch a bit and I tried to heat shrink it without too much luck... It's not that obvious and it's only an undertray so I'm trying to decide if I just paint it as is or spend more time trying to straighten it out. It is after all an undertray...but I feel my OCD kicking in.
  2. Both, if possible? It looks like it's a plastic catch can? I'll likely run a catch can now that I've gone to Triple Mikuni's but would be interested in something that looks 'period' correct.
  3. Are you sure it's the same Stephanie? I got a call back from a guy with an English accent (I emailed the advert to ask about chassis no.) anyway he didn't have the chassis no. handy. I didn't get the impression they were flipping them. Seem to recall he said they had been hauling this 240z with them to a few places over the years. But wouldn't be the first seller to spin a story. Said the original engine was long gone. I asked if it was around just in case...

Surely the engine swap back to L-series would't be too difficult? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1924-cars-for-sale-3rd-party-sites-ebay-carsales-etc/?p=194790 Fits your criteria in many other ways?
  5. Remind me again, who is Stephanie? It says build date around 12/1971 - But I actually think it's more likely to be the compliance date. Since it has the earlier console and my 72 was built 12/1971 and had the later console. The body work actually looks reasonable (in photos) such a shame about the engine swap however.. It looks like faded 905 red but description says "orange". Hard to tell for sure..

What rod and crank are you going to run with that piston?
  7. Thanks Alan, I like that engine bay. Any chance of getting some more photos of the oil catch can set up? Interesting that they went with the throttle cable set up too! Would that car have had the "Safari head"?
  8. Awesome, I was going to trouble Alan for more reference photos and measurements but if you have a pair to copy from even better! I am also interested in taking measurements of the CDI yellow boxes!
  9. Good question I'm not 100% sure... I think it depends on the year. I know the indicator stalk has a "pass" button to flash the high beams on 260z's but not sure if the headlight switch is different? I suspect there was some loom changes. I am just looking for spares so it may not matter? Perhaps post a few photos if you get a chance for comparison sake?
  10. Problem is social media is now where many go but i find the Facebook posts as useful as a chocolate tea pot most of the time. At least on sites like these you can find material that has been covered before with relative ease. The likes of Facebook are good for ephemeral information but that's about it.
  11. Late model RS30. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260z-/302396766033 RS30 020105 Complianced 8/77 Buy it now: $30k
  12. Also remove the space from "260 Z" and make it "260z" I didn't find it right away.. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260-Z-Two-Seater-Coupe-/172797104752
  13. Hi Alan, Do you know if Speed Shop Kubo are the ones who make an airbox that looks like the works rally car airbox? http://www.speedshopkubo.com/gallery/ This is a set of webers, but the airbox looks a lot like the ones on the works rally cars. I was trying to find a reference photo of an actual works car, but couldn't find 1. Instead I found a model car of 1 of the safari cars. Which shows this kind of airbox arrangement.
  14. Those are British SU's not Hitachi SU's and they look a little undersize based on the surface of the intake manifold and how the carbs mate up to them. I'd measure the throats to get an idea of their size. Hard to advise on what's missing since they are off another market car. Usually it's HS6 SU's that get fitted to L-series (L24-L28's). However my experience with HS6;s is that they were not nearly as good quality as the Hitachi made SUs. As suggested contact the website above for help with your particular model of carb.
  15. Everything is easy once you know how, I feel sorry for the poor bloke / woman who had to churn out 100s of these each day. Quite a tricky task. If this goes well I only have 3 more to do lol...by the end I'll be an expert, might see if I can shoot a very short video documenting how to rebuild them. It certainly would have helped me.
  16. Lots of circlips to remove. Another here. The plastic switch part can be slowly removed from the shaft (but leveraging it up with a screw driver). It took me ages to realise this. See the top 1 is missing here. Basically coming apart now. More circlip madness..
  17. So I asked Dave irwin on Facebook for some tips. His website is: https://www.datsun-240z-upgrades.net/ You don't remove a circlip here, you press the washer button which will expose the plastic nub at the end. Grab it with pliers and turn the assembly which will unscrew the plastic end from the washer button shaft. See the threaded bit at the end? Removed with spring.
  18. Google Photos frustrating doesn't provide an easy way to embed images in third party websites, although there is no real reason other than the fact they haven't developed this functionality yet. I am hoping in future they do. Flickr as mentioned does allow third party embedding. I understand Photobucket probably did an analysis of their data and realised many third party websites benefited from their hosting but charging $300-$400 is excessive. Charging $10 p/month would be far more reasonable.
  19. Yeah I've been trying that, no joy yet. Better photos of the circlip. It has no real "ears" to grab at. The only reason I know it's possible to remove it as others have done it. Otherwise I'd think it impossible. I am also trying not to break anything.
  20. Ok I only had 3 of those bb gun pellet like things and thought 1 went missing, but from the sounds of it I have all of them. As for the circlip think I've run out of patience. Must be an easier way...
  21. Yeah I push the wiper washer button in, which reveals the circlip but I can't for the life of me get the circlip off..
  22. Well I never put my faith in photobucket, but you can use the image upload feature here instead? Good time to call for a donation. Photobuckets move was very much a greedy corporate decision really..nothing but a money grab.
  23. S31 clock (Calendar style). http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322606328877?ul_noapp=true Buy it now: $410 USD.

Not quite, I tend to avoid the Series 1 and Series 2 nomenclature as I think it's totally wrong. There were several iterations and changes over the years and between 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973. The thing is most North American's can't tell me where series 1 starts and where series 2 comes in... they all have slightly different opinions. But 1971 models continued up until high 1000 range chassis wise. But later 1971's didn't get the early style console. Even if they did receive the 71A gearbox. My own car HS30 10552 is a good example of a car built in Dec 1971 with a 71A but a later console.
  25. Hey Folks, Anyone got spare combo switches lying around not doing anything? I'm looking for spare parts.. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16375-s30z-combination-switch-wiper-and-indicator-rebuild/?p=194658
