Recently brought 5 wheels in. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11264-safari-brown-i-mean-gold-the-nsw-project/?p=194045 Shipping was cheaper because the tyres were removed. I wonder if folks are interested in the original tyres or not? Some of the wheels I have access to in the US were original spares and therefore still have the original tyre.

Safari Brown... I mean Gold - The NSW Project

I picked these up today, first time sending large items like this via sea freight. All worked out well... These Topy's are technically Roadster ones because they have the tabs for the smaller hubcaps that fit to the roadster wheels. They can either be ground off (look spot welded on) or use a grinder to remove them. But they don't actually interfere with the fitment of a D cap. These are 14x4.5j in size just like the early 240z sizes. I test fitted a hubcap. -

That 260z may be good for panels, but not at $10k.. I wonder how intense the fire was and if it weakened the steel much? He might get 5k back by cutting it up for 1/4 panels, roof, doors, bonnet etc.. -
Hard tops tend to be more desirable than the targa roof's. Stiffer chassis and less leaks! But of course each buyer is different and has different needs / expectations.

In the interest of not re-opening old wounds I think it's best to lock this thread and you can follow the progress of the car in Girks thread as per the link GongZ posted above.

This thread came up on Facebook recently. Lots of painful memories attached to it. I'd ask Lurch as he likely knows the outcome and may be willing to share more privately.

Thinking about this more, it's possible #138 was used as a front-end donor for #510 and just welded on the front. Hence why the compliance tag remains? Keep in mind a cut n' shut was legal up until around 1989 I think (correct me if I'm wrong?) in which case it could have happened before that time. If it's properly done it's fine, but in this case you may need to rectify some poorly done work (even though the shut lines look quite good on the car). Of course we could be wrong also, it's possible they were just poor rust repairs carried out in that area? -

My assumption is that the compliance plate was fitted because a previous owner thought it was missing and perhaps nicked it off #138 which was being wrecked. Not realising or aware that the compliance plate has the VIN stamped on it. This car didn't require a compliance plate my early 72 240z doesn't have 1 but #150 does which kind of goes to show how haphazard the fitment of them was at the time. I think it is safe to assume #138 is gone for good. The cracked chassis on #510 is definitely interesting to say the least. I do wonder how it happened. If there was some kind of cut n shut etc.. -
Nope, broken LOL..

I'm not a huge fan of the Series 1 Series 2 nomenclature as it's very North American centric and really where does Series 1 end and Series 2 start? The answer is there is no black and white line, more shades of grey.. but to play along. Yes it's technically a 71 model and therefore lacks some of the early features like vented rear hatch. The compliance plate is interesting as it's clearly for another 240z, I think we can assume HS30 00138 met her demise long ago...not all early S30Z's had compliance plates anyway, so maybe someone nicked 1 as they had issues registering it at some stage without? It's a very early 71 however, so still has the dual choke set up, it has the early AM radio if my eyes don't deceive me (photos don't zoom well) and looks to be a very honest original car. At it's current price it's an absolute steal provided the rust worm hasn't taken hold. Although given how early build it is, it really doesn't matter in my opinion. I'm surprised it's still listed on carsales to be frank. -

It's in Melbourne with the car, actually the car is down with Lachlan and Les Collins at the minute being used as a test mule. -
I am third in line, so will wait and see what the other above want to do. PS: Do you have the fasteners for the airbox, not the wing nuts the ones that attach the airbox backing plate to the carb bodies? I have 1 odd fastener (someone replaced it) and I have to switch between rackets when removing it. Pain in the butt...

The wider rear end is an acquired taste. I suppose if you like Kim Kardashian it's ok...

Hi Folks, So the short story is, I may have found a NOS bonnet (but it's very pricey) and therefore I'm looking to potentially offload this bonnet (offset the cost). Since I wasn't able to find a good bonnet for a while now I was contemplating filling in the flutes/vents on this 1. However it seems a little sad to do that when someone might want a good fluted bonnet themselves. I won't be selling this really until I've got the new 1 in my possession and fitted it and am happy with it. So for now it's just an expression of interest (as I know a few of us are seeking a bonnet). I'm going to say price wise I'd like to get $1,000 AUD for it. I can't guarantee it's got no filler or rust, but I'd be very surprised if that was the case. When I got it, it was painted green (factory green from memory) and there was no signs of rust or previous damage. However I have never had it back to bare metal. But if you look at the lines of the bonnet it's very true compared to many with the dip or bow at the front. The vents themselves have 1 or 2 studs broken off where the nuts attach, this is a common problem with the plastic vents. The right adhesive and a little skill would resolve it. It was painted by Blind Freddy who was given a hand by Stevie Wonder, so plenty of orange peel going on. I've never been happy with it. But I doubt the paint colour would match whatever red your S30Z is anyway. Feel free to send me a PM if you're interested in it, I am more than happy for you to come inspect in person to make sure you're happy before settling on it, basically I'm just looking for confirmation there would be interest in it at the current price point. First in gets first refusal and so on etc.. Slight caveat I may not sell it if I can't secure the NOS bonnet.

Ron can fix anything! Check out the before and after photos of this rusty Oscillator I picked up on the cheap! After photos. I bought this expecting it not to work, in fact we were going to sacrifice the tuning fork to determine what material it was composed of, but as usual Ron found a way to get it working again and back from the dead, so we're restoring it. I had 1 Rally Clock that was missing it's original Oscillator (I had an after market 1 ready for it) but figured I'd make it complete and original again. As always happens you don't find rare stuff in isolation, but I found another rusty Oscillator not long after this 1. Which will also need restoring...
