ozzy 79 Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 G'day, My first Zed was a 280zx. So was my 2nd. Then I looked at some 240z's and 260z's... and the biggest thing that struck me... My god the fuel cap is so boring!!! Ok - it wasn't the first thing, but it really stood out... The 280zx has this funky star cap, with no door... and the 240z has... a door that looks like it belongs on my Toyota Camry... Sorry - just had to say something. Been checking out 240z's on eBay/carsales etc, and it kept hitting me again. I swear if I ever do buy a 240z, I'm gonna commit a horrible crime and take that door off, cut out the whole section and replace with one from a 280zx... Oh and... note to the wise... leave your key in the star cap when you're refueling... And... if you found a star cap near the petrol station in Berrimah, NT back in 2001 and kept it... I curse your name. :} cheers Ozzy Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 16, 2012 Moderators Posted November 16, 2012 I prefer my fuel caps to be hidden...not like those Ford GT ones that stick out 8" from the body. The 280ZX one is ok, but still prefer out of sight. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 You've know just given every S30 owner a reason to never sell you their car. That's crazzyy talk. You're crazzyy (but seriously, let us never speak of this again) Quote

Aprils fools? or has a massive supply of smack been scored and used by this guy before his post??? Quote
ozzy 79 Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Am actually quite serious - in as much as I love the 280zx cap design, as it's quite fresh, and just think the 240/260 design is so ubiquitous as to be very boring... I'd not likely hack up a 240z for this issue however... Quote
Agno Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Luckily for you the only drawback you could find was that the fuel door wasn't to your exceptional tastes. If anything it shows just how well designed the rest of the car is. Don't get me started on T-tops either. Quote
ozzy 79 Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Hey! T-Tops are a great idea! They bake your head, let water in when it rains, weaken the car's structural integrity, and look cool... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 16, 2012 Administrators Posted November 16, 2012 I am fine with the standard 240z fuel cap . However if I was to change anything it would be to smooth it off and put the fuel filler behind the number plate so the plate would tilt down. Quote
dat2kman Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Why dontcha stick on ya flap, one of those fake fuel cap sticker things, you can get from supercrap auto stores, you know, the ones that look like a giant motorcycle tank filler. While at it, a set of side stickers to make it look like a Ferrari Testiclerossa. Cool bro meh wtf cbf fooly sik leb style Tempe tyres pink subaru29" rims Uleh. Quote
nizm0zed Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 lol. Im sure some tasteless american has stuck the tacky sticker on the flap cover.... Just hide it, i hid mine. It wasnt that much work... Quote
Six_Shooter Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I prefer my fuel caps to be hidden...not like those Ford GT ones that stick out 8" from the body. The 280ZX one is ok, but still prefer out of sight. Same here, I may go so far as to move the filler, so that I can even get rid of the fuel door cap! You've know just given every S30 owner a reason to never sell you their car. That's crazzyy talk. You're crazzyy (but seriously, let us never speak of this again) Thank you, please stop anyone else from selling him an S30 as well. lol Quote
Gyra Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Hmm, might be on to something here. Although it might be better to start with transplanting the engine from a 280 into a 240. And then have a quiet cup of tea and reconsider things... Quote
ozzy 79 Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 From memory when I first had a close look at a 240/260, I first thought that the Z emblem on the c pillar must have been some secret hatch hiding the filler... Then finished walking round the car and.. oh.. just a standard door... Quote
dat240z Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Are you deadset? is it just me or is this guy sounding like a douche? Quote
MaygZ Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 I suspect a 'fishing trip' to see how many he catches. He's doing OK, but I doubt he's got his bag limit yet. Quote
ozzy 79 Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 Not actually trying to aggrieve 240/260z owners... I wouldn't want something like this: That's far too stand-out-ee... Just like a modded WRX that I saw one day, with a massive stainless steel checker/dimple plate for a fuel door... That looked absurd... But the 280zx has a very cool design, IMO... and the 240z's very stock-to-any-old-mother's-van style just seems incredibly simple for such an iconic car... Just been trying to find images of an E-Type's fuel cap/door to compare... but it's not as easy as I thought... (Am saying - I've no idea, but was curious what an E-Type's looks like as a comparison, given that the 240z was based on the E) Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 ..... given that the 240z was based on the E) lol. Quote
Ledge Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Hate to burst your bubble mate but an E type is damn near the same as the 240z just on the top lh rear guard Quote
PZG302 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Or........ Go the full monty and get rid of the fuel flap altogether, replace the standard tank with a 120 litre fuel cell in the same spot, replace the rear hatch glass with 4mm lexcan, reinforced with aluminium strips with a hole cut for the full drybreak system to fit flush with. Gees you guys are getting as precious as MX5 owners...... Quote
ozzy 79 Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 You know, I've always wanted to try an electric Zed... and the 240 is very light compared to the 280... Quote
dat240z Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Ive got an idea ozzy79. Go get the flashest, most awesome looking fuel cap, put it on a bucket of s#$t and enter it in the summernats saying "yeah but the fuel cap is so beautiful" and see the reaction. Your last comment i wont even respond to, but seriously mods, lets filter these terrible posts.... its embarrassing! Quote
ozzy 79 Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 Well obviously this was just the abomination as no other Zeds had one, and I know nothing. Quote
Scoota G Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Gees you guys are getting as precious as MX5 owners...... Hahahahahaha, i like the idea as it's unique. Chop that bitch up and show us how it's done. Quote
260DET Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 280ZX cap is cool but it's damm heavy and there are no replacement aftermarket ones either. But they are much less likely to leak than the S30 ones when driven with exhuberance Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 17, 2012 Administrators Posted November 17, 2012 I can't believe your worried about the fuel cap / cover. We all know the eye sore of the S30 is the cigarette lighter. On a serious note I think the S30 has more in common with the styling of the Ferrari 250GTO than it does the E-type Jag. Now that had a cool fuel cap and position. @Ozzy 79 - why limit yourself to a simple fuel cap modification when you could build the worlds first racing brake 280zx? Quote
