Hi All

I read almost all comments and post on here as I'm a big Z fan and any info

i can get to make my Z ownership better is much appreciated.

But i also have allot of knowledge to share but have learnt from other

forums to keep my opinions to myself as there is always someone

who thinks they no everything about everything and will be quick to burn

a comment or advice that they think is wrong.

Lately i have noticed the burning is getting out of hand to the point

where a very well regarded person who by the way i have never met

but has given me advice on this forum free of charge, is no longer posting

If this burning continues more and more people with great knowledge

of Z's and there workings will just disappear, especially

us older guys that have many other things we could be doing.

As far as I'm concerned there is always a way to put your thoughts across

without them being derogative or just plain rude.

I have been restoring cars for many years and i laugh hard at some of the advice

given to people on the ins and outs of fixing there bodywork, trim, mechanical

because the advice is way off what should be getting done.

But i do not correct these posts due to flamers.

So if you don't have something to say that will help the questions asked by people

just shut up, then more people may consider helping out.

Lets see how long it takes till i get flamed

I agree 100%.

There are a few people on here that love slagging others who might know less than them about a particular subject. It's their way or your wrong pretty much. I doesn't need to be like that. Just cause you've had a bad day or your missus is cranky at you doesn't mean you can get on here and wreck someone else's day.

Hasn't this all gone a little too far and been blown way out of proportion?  :o.  As far as I'm aware in the time i have been a member there has been no personal attacks?

In regards to Pete Mc, he has done a mountain of work for many people with no complaints about quality or performance, including me. So his work does speak volumes.

I feel for Benny too, people are entitled to opinions and it's not like he went on a tirade poo pooing every bit of the build. It may have lacked a little tact, but there was certainly no malice.

I think the info given and different advice from members has been invaluable to my build over the years, I don't see why anything needs to change. Everyone is a little different and what may seem easy for some is not for others, so the different views/advice will continue to be helpful.

I hope he continues to be a part of the forum, these old datsuns can be trying and we need all the help we can get!

Friend of all, Gareth.  :)

Well Paul. Your punctuation made that hard to read.  :P lol (sorry)  ;D

Agree with you, but I have a question.

Why would you let others lead people up the path, if you believe the advice given to be wrong? That just doesn't make sense to me  ???

Maybe by staying quiet, you're a part of the problem and not the solution? I don't know, am I out of line?

I get bagged out at times. But hey, does it really matter? Most times they are throw away comments, or come accross wrong via the written word.

Let bygones be bygones and move on. The mods can tidy up anything deemed out of bounds.

Can't we all just get along?

I get where Paul is coming from but also agree with Gareth...bottom line is that I don't see any intentional burning. People have an opinion or offer advice based on their own experience and therefore believe its true.....others may choose to disagree or challenge and its from that process that we all learn.

If you post you do so at your own peril, if someone disagrees or has a different perspective you may feel aggrieved so be prepared! Having said that this forum is way ahead of others when it comes to sense of community and respect for others.... so before you bang out a response to a thread have a thought for the other person and how they may view your response. treat others as you would like to be treated.....its only common courtesy.

I missed the whole thing hat has gone on as well. Didn't even relive pm had gone?  Over the past many years I have been on this forum I have had good and bad times however I think there are enough good people here to out weight the bad.

Forums will always have people hat speak crap, get flamed for silly things etc etc

Think you have to take it with a grain of salt and move on. If someone pisses you off then don't help them or pm them and sort it out.

Having said that I don't know he story with Pete so I may be off

I think that's a lot better than posting it for all to see as it was getting heated, providing he didn't breach the forum guidelines.

Water under the bridge, we are a minority, we need all the friends, help and members we can get on this site.

'jokes' it could be worse, we could be Hybridz  :P hehe.

One thing I have noticed is that some sarcastic responses don't always go to plan; as its very hard to do with just plain text. I've seen a few posts in the past turn into arguments over a stupid remark.

HI

My comments where not just specific to Pete, They are

a general comment on the way posts have been heading lately

luvemfast, yeah sorry i am a hands on person so English was never

my strong point lol. As i restore vehicles not just patch them up

the way i would tell people to do stuff would cost a considerable amount

more than just a can of bog and some pressure pak paint, and most people

don't want to spend money. So yes maybe not posting may be a problem

as well but that is what Pm's are for.

Maybe i am from a different generation where you would go and talk to people

face to face where you can get the tone of there voice and no if its a light hearted comment

or a serious dig.

Hey Everybody...

Thought I should probably throw in a comment here!! There was no malice towards peter in my original comment!!

It did get blown out and for my part I apologise... In saying that... dont regard to me as someone new and know nothing as I have been around here for longer then most of you. I also contribute to many threads providing helpful information and links, check out my post history if you like.

Anyway its all done and dusted now PM me if you want to chat!!

Paul you could say I'm from the Internet Generation, but take it from me, if you want to get something done. It's often best to pick up the phone and call someone. As useful as the Internet is it can also be a hindrance and distraction and there are sometimes wayyyy too many opinions to know what to believe or who to trust....

This was perhaps 1 of the reasons I introduced the karma system ages back, but that was a bit of a disaster also :).

Still like this:

I'm obviously one of the doúches that is too sarcastic  ::)

Do you think?

Now I hope that italics is the accepted method to convey sarcasm??

I have a foot in all the camps.  I agree that I have seen people get flamed for what appears to me to be nothing.  I have also read some crap that somehow gets through unscathed.  I am also a bit quick at times to pay out.  I do hope that that my 'paying out' is taken in the tongue in cheek, light hearted way it is meant.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I think that the community in this forum is the best and strongest I've been involved in.

I only have 2 beefs with the way the forums runs at times.  I emphasise that these comments are not directed towards any particular person, but the forum in general.

1.  Digging up old threads with no new info.  It occurs mainly in the for sale sections.  Inane posts like "is this still for sale?" and general conversations about off topic matters in the middle of someone's thread.  Surely a PM would be a better way to deal with nearly all of those type of inquiries.

2.  There is a spell check button on here guys.  Please use it.  Yes it's a US dictionary, but it's closer to english than some of the comments typed on here.  Very few people, including me, are wordsmiths, but we can be doing it better.

Please apply the rule that if you wouldn't say it to a person's face, don't type it on a public forum.  If you find yourself being offended by a comment on the forum, yes even one of mine, just send the author a polite PM asking for clarification, suggesting a rephrasing of the post or ask them to delete it.  Please let's avoid the to and fro' sniping that is the hallmark of other forums.

In the words of the bringer of light (to Gippsland):  I still love you all.

Better to ask a silly question than make a silly mistake!!

There will always be rude people around, just ignore it.

Although fairly new to this forum, I believe its one of the most community based, informative site ive come accross.

We are all here for the same reason, we have GOOD tastes in cars so everyone relax and take a deep one.
