Roberto Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Haha funnily enough im just on the laptop ordering my sleeves from Techno toy aswell. Only $66 postage to Melb! Before i finalise my order how would those spring rates you chose go with stock sway bars? What inserts are you planning to go?. I think im just going to get Tokico blues since im planning to go 200lbs springs. (Im going against everyones recommendations of 5-6kg springs) I remember having Kings Springs with my stock front and rear bars (remember 260Z stock front bar was bigger than 240Z stock front plus addition of rear bar) and it was great. A little more body roll on corners. I personally wouldn't go more than 200lbs for street. The tokico springs are close to 200lbs and people on US sites often complain about being too stiff and harsh on bad roads. I agree with Simon. Illuminas are the way to go as you can adjust them to suit the spring rate. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Hey Roberto, how does the build quality look on the control arms and what sort of rose joint they use? Do you no what they weigh compared to stock items? BTW, for people considering Illumina's they top out at 220-250lbs, so if you springs are stiffer than that they won't do much controlling of rebound/bump. Quote
Roberto Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 Hey Gareth. I think they are built very well. The specs on them are here: https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/240z/front-lower-control-arms-240z-260z-280z With regards to weight, the TTT LCA plus ball joint is around 2kg. Not sure what the standard LCA is? Quote
Roberto Posted May 4, 2013 Author Posted May 4, 2013 First chance to test the new PMC engine on the chassis dyno at the SA BBQ-Dyno day today. Some footage: Dyno chart: 155 rwkw. Peter says there is a 25-26% drivetrain loss, which means it was spot on with flywheel horsepower produced on the engine dyno. Next is some TLC on the body with sunroof removal and respray ! Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 4, 2013 Administrators Posted May 4, 2013 As said on the video mate, good result. That's good power to the wheels! Quote
peter mc Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Not to bad for a small cam and 44mm carbs and 2.5 in exhaust Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 5, 2013 Administrators Posted May 5, 2013 Not to bad for a small cam and 44mm carbs and 2.5 in exhaust Yeah I know of race engines that produced 130rwkw with wild cams - that probably drive like a pig on the street. That's the thing a dyno can't tell you, how drive-able the package is. Quote
peter mc Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 sorry Gav , i any good tuner can read a dyno graph and say how it will drive , the dyno is a tool and if used right its the only way to go , on the engine dyno we can tell if it will drive nice just by the way pulls off the bottom and how it takes full throttle , , Quote
nizm0zed Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I think what gav may mean is looking at the printout and not having been there to see how it reacts under throttle, gear selected, load applied ect.. As I'm sure you are aware there are plenty of 'dyno posers' that make out like the read out final figure is the only thing that matters. Roberto, its a damn nice looking car, and by the dyno slip it looks like it'd be an absolute balltearer to drive, congrats, you have to be happy with that. Quote

It's very drivable and pulls smoothly from 2000rpm. Peter says if I change the cam to a 76 degree it will hit 165rwkw even with the 44mm carbs, but will not be as responsive below 4000rpm. Since it's a street car, the way it is now is great. Just need an LSD and brake upgrade I will take some in-car footage of some driving on the road and post it. Quote
Roberto Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 Here is a clip of some easy driving to give some idea of sound and drivability. No drone at all with the 2.5 inch magnaflow system Peter built for it. Unfortunately can't give it full throttle on public roads and post. Will do that when I get it onto the track one day. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Oh yeah sounds great Roberto! Wow an extra 10kw with just the cam upgrade, go for it Quote
RB30X Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Unfortunately can't give it full throttle on public roads Why not?? It's 155kw not 1055kw. Just take it somewhere where the speed limit isn't 50km/h Quote
Roberto Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 Of course I can, I just don't want video evidence of tom foolery on public roads..... Quote
Roberto Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 Well, Mick has well and truly started on the rust repairs to the body at the Murray Bridge Centre of Excellence. The areas needing love are both doglegs, hatch, new right door skin (rare spares), lower part of both fenders, both floor pans and chassis rails (rare spares) and finally new roof skin (Dale). Once this is done, the car will come home for acrylic respray (unless I go with 2-pac). Quote
ZED83 Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I've got the ute ready to drop it off at courier we just got to get some cardboard and foam for it! We just busy! hay (dale) don't worry Roberto all under control Quote
Fairlady Z Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Nice work Mick and Roberto. finaly to get it the sexy body that it deserves for that other awesome part collection u managed to shove into it. +1 for 2pk so much easier for maintenance. bird poop kills acrylics. well some will even kill 2pk if u leave it on 45C day and bird ate paint stripper which does happen well not sure about paint striper but what ever it had that day sure had same effect as paint stripper. dat240z Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Yeah dont skimp out and do a dodge acrylic job. Your car deserves to be finished properly mate, its looking awesome. As for cant give full throttle on public roads..............WTF??? How do you control yourself? Im all for responsible driving and not being an idiot, but wow. Quote
Roberto Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 As for cant give full throttle on public roads..............WTF??? How do you control yourself? Im all for responsible driving and not being an idiot, but wow. I never said I can't give it full throttle! I just don't want to post a video of it on youtube. It loses traction very easily because there is no LSD. Do I need to say more? Yeah dont skimp out and do a dodge acrylic job. Your car deserves to be finished properly mate, its looking awesome. Cheers. If I did acrylic it wouldn't be a dodgey one. Many beautiful cars were done in acrylic. Yes, it's less durable, but I would be careful not to let bird poo kill it. I definitely don't drive it every day. Quote
Retro Z Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Acrylic can be done nice and look identical to 2k. But 2k has good chemical resistance eg. Thinners, petrol that might splash on etc. And it cost similar dollars either way you go.. but acrylic will require hours of buffing every few months to keep its gloss up. I know you are not meant to paint 2k at home..but i have several times and the results are always good. Just make sure you have decent respirator and its a warm day. Quote

I have also been trying to decide on colour options although painting i still months away. I want to go for a solid colour (not metallic) and no clear coat. I reckon I will keep it blue but not too dark. I have played around with a colour effect program and tried to mimic a light blue similar to the gulf western race cars. What do you think? Light solid blue with plenty of black trim, black wheels and flares and black side stripes? Second pic is how the zed is now. Thoughts? Quote
Riceburner Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I like your color ideas Roberto, Here's a pic of a lighter blue Z. The factory light blue also looks very good Quote
Retro Z Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I like your ideas aswell Roberto. It will be unique thats for sure! I have a few pics on my laptop of light blue Z's..i'll dig them up and upload soon. Quote

Makes me want to get a g-nose !! Yeah, the factory light blue is a great option too. I like your ideas aswell Roberto. It will be unique thats for sure! I have a few pics on my laptop of light blue Z's..i'll dig them up and upload soon. Thanks Tai, I hope it will not be unique because it's a crap colour choice? Yes please upload the pics. Well, Mick has now completed both doglegs, hatch, door skin and lower left fender. His work is looking awesome ! Quote
