A few months ago my very first post on these forums was about a business I have used and recommend.  Unfortunately, it was removed and at the same time I was given some negative karma.  ???  I'm surprised you guys are so harsh on newbies.  If you weren't sure about me, ask Lurch (I have come over from another Datsun forum of which he is the moderator).  Or was it you Lurch that deleted my post?

Also, if there are rules about what you can and can't post in the "Recommended Business" section then perhaps that should be in a 'sticky' thread at the top??

Kind regards,

DAZDA

Mate we are over people joining this site and trying to flog their stuff. Feel free to join up and chat about anything. But in my opinion unless you have 50 posts against your name don't start trying to sell stuff. That will prove you are a serious Zed fan and interested in the site. Anything prior to 50 is simply opportunistic.

If it is posted in the businesses section, what's the issue?  It's not like you have to read all the threads/posts, you can pick and choose as you see fit.  I can understand if it was posted all over the place or in the wrong section, but I thought the whole point of a recommended business section would be to encourage Zed fans towards good businesses...

Maybe it was because it was my first post...  I can kind of see why that would seem more doubtful.  ;D

I'd say as it was your first post, it would just look like an advertisement, not a recommendation.

Maybe people need to clarify if they have any affiliation with the business they are recommending? Maybe their brother or sisters boyfriend owns/runs the business and this would probably look to me as more of an advertisement than a recommendation.

DAZDA, noticed in your sig you have 2 different businesses listed there. Either you got the most awesome service from them that you thought it worth spruiking them to others, or you are affiliated with them in some way or another? Either way, doesn't bother me, just an observation as to why it would seem like advertising and not recommending.

handsandwhich, well spotted and good point.  Indeed I have listed two businesses, and I have received exceptional assistance and service from these businesses.  Which is why I have them listed in my personal signature rather than some lame quote or a vanity picture of me or my car.  8)

IMO Businesses that provide good service need all the support they can get.

What as the rest of us do :o

Uhmmm, easier to see through than a stained glass window!  I love businesses who assist the Zed community but to list them the way you have certainly looks like there is an affiliation that goes way beyond good service...just sayin!

The bottom line is get 50 posts up first. Why would anybody take a recommendation to use a business from someone we don't know. That is just stupid. You wouldn't just tap anyone on the shoulder in the street and ask them who they recommend! Same on this site we want to get recommendations from reputable people. Reputable is sort of like people with a reputation. That is only earnt over time through interation on this site. Then we can make a judgement call on weather someone is serious or full of it. As we all know the net is full of people blowing their own trumpets.

And that my boy is "why we are so harsh".  You asked, we told.

But we all share a common theme here. We are interested in cars, datsuns, zeds, motorsport etc.

The stuff the DAZDA has recommended relates to these interests. I know of people who have recommended businesses based on there past experiences and they have turned out to be no good for others.

Its hit and miss for alot of different services, so just use you head and work out if its right for you!!

I could probably put it more diplomatically, but Id say the same as Craig in the end. Us mods have to spend a fair bit of time removing advertising of all sorts from the site (mostly spam) If we don't have strict criteria then anyone could advertise and the value of the recommended businesses section would be nil. The last thing we want are businesses who make accounts here to advertise their products without supporting the site in some way.

Also this won't rally many people here to your cause:

Which is why I have them listed in my personal signature rather than some Lame quote or a vanity picture of me or my car.

Don't be a hypocrite Lurch

ANYONE else who advertises a business on their first post usually cops it.......

Just because you know the guy, shouldn't make a difference.

If Dazda owns a Z, you should have encouraged him to the Introduction section. Its encouraged for all!

There is no problem of the recommendation............ If it was after a while, not straight up.

Just my 2 cents

Oh, and welcome Dazda. Pics of your ride would be great  :)

Of course I can be a Hypocrite, Simon. It's my prerogative!

ha ha ha ha

On a side note, and closer to the original topic.

There was a driver training day a couple of years ago at Sandown, do these still happen?

Would be interesting to get a group together to put our mouths where our ego's are!

Yeh, me too, hay DAZDA, whats the story with your rotary connection?

I too have a rotary, it is a histroric sports sedan ( group U) and I am trying to get it finished, gets some events under it's wheels and then look to selling it off.

I am more Datsun than Mazda anyway, but, it seemed like a interesting idea at the time!!

I'm Brisbane based, and am aware of the gun shops down there, (issy Sveticic and Guru)

Bugger.....I though this might of been about his engine choice.

Not at all, I'm a rotary man myself now FD RX-7. But I still love the L-series donk so don't worry my S30 will remain L-series.

I think a 13B is the perfect powerplant for a 510 though :) brap brap.

By the way DAZDA we get lots of spammers signing up regularly to the site posting links to all kinds of sites. You can usually tell a spammer because they have links in their signature to all kinds of sites.

I appreciate anyone taking the time to recommend a business but as Craig has mentioned it's good to first establish who you are in the community and then your recommendation has a bit more authenticity to it.

Don't worry about the Karma thing, it was really more of an experiment to see if it would add value to the community. At this stage the jury is till out on that 1. So what I'm saying is it might not remain a feature on the site forever. I gave you a +karma anyway hope it makes you feel better :).

Is there a way I can give a big NEGATIVE to Karma?

Thinks it has run its course

Dat2kman,

I guess my connection to rotary engines started when I bought my first rallycar, a Mazda RX-2.  It was fitted with an EFI, Bridgeported 12A.  Also as an engineer I can appreciate the elegance of the mechanical efficiency (three moving parts, less amplitude on the intake and exhaust flow pulses, the potential to make a lot of power, etc).  There is a certain appeal about the inlet air flow not having to slam into a closed inlet valve all the time, but maybe that is just me.  Can you please tell me more about your rotary powered historic sports sedan (if you are happy to share)?

At this stage my DAZDA projects are still just that, projects (Time and Money and all that).  I plan to put a NA 13B into my 1600 (I agree with you Gav240z) and am considering putting a 20B into an HS30 (as much as others may view this as sacrilege)...

Gav240z,

The FD RX-7s are a beautiful car (almost as good looking as Zed!  ;)  ) great choice!

I forgot to add, I'll try and get some pictures of my Zed up here soon.
