benny Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 It is awesome that ricey is getting a freshen up!! Quote
Riceburner Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 Eeeeew that looks a lot more ugly than it did from the outside. Lucky the weld wizard is on to it Can't remember if I asked but can we get rid of the door mirror and weld up the holes? Pretty please.... Quote
Riceburner Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Had a play with the welder yesterday, decided to seam weld the trans mount, add extra plating and fit poly bushings. The spare 240z diff mount (double cut out) was starting to separate in a few spots so that got the treatment too. Good news is my welding is getting better I also removed the old 260 mount with the solid diff mount, its served me well but was very noisey and I wa always a little worried about the billet aluminium failing. I replaced it with the technoversions diff mount and energy suspension poly bush..... Wow what a mission it was, it seemed to be a little too big for the trans tunnel as it required a lot of tapping (beating) to get the driveline properly aligned. I also had to pull most of the rear suspension apart to do it, I hope it's worth the huge effort and I'm looking foward to more induction/exhaust noise Quote
Riceburner Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 I got the repaired door back from Lurch last weekend and boy was there some work in it from him! Once again he has done top notch and I can't thank him enough for his huge efforts Cheers mate. Not much more progress with the ricey, I needed time away from the shed as the list of thing to do keeps growing..........Oh yeah speaking of that I have been on the hunt for more power (whats new) and stumbled upon cars running Keihin FCR carbs So the Ricey will soon be trying on a set of six FCR41 Flat Slide carbs First pic is the spacing I'll be aiming for to give straight shots into the ports and the second is the actual product. Now to finish the other 45 jobs first Quote
roastbeef Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 f**kn epic!! do you think there will be a problem with hood clearance - as the velocity stacks seem to go upwards? am assuming you will need custom manifold? anyway..this is seriously cool. Quote
KatoKid Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Ouch $$$$$ where do you get 6 x FCR's at a reasonable price! Quote
Riceburner Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 f**kn epic!! do you think there will be a problem with hood clearance - as the velocity stacks seem to go upwards? am assuming you will need custom manifold? anyway..this is seriously cool. I've been checking the vids on you tube and they have a really unique sound especially at idle, they should have awesome performance at full noise! The only restriction is the jet needle, no butterflies, chockes, venturies or shafts in the way. I'm going for the side draught type with horizontal fuel bowls. Your spot on the down draughts need a big angle to get them sitting correctly approx 50deg angle. I'll custom make a manifold that shouldn't be too hard. Quote
Riceburner Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Ouch $$$$$ where do you get 6 x FCR's at a reasonable price! I know what you mean David, certainly not cheap but bout the same a good weber/solex setup but with more power and drivability. There are quite a few setups on yahoo japan going cheap, some of mine are used but have been fully rebuilt which helps too. I wonder what marque sports will make of them? It's not injection.... Quote
Riceburner Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 We have twins Twin sets of four............ Flat CR's anyone I've got new jets on the way and will be starting off with these settings 185mains, 45 pilot, 200 main air, 100 pilot air, 2turns out on fuel mix srcew, Needle on third clip. Let the fun begin! Quote

Hi Gareth, If your car ends up to fast, I might have to see if the MSCA will put you in the modern class. As a matter of interest what year would that sort of Carby set up fall under? It's all starting to come together for you now. Cheers Gordon. Quote

Nah, these are of 98 model gsxr Suzuki and I'm actually not sure when they started making this type. It would be interesting to see what the MSCA said.... Would that mean new weber dcoe's or OCR's would be classed modern too? Quote
Gordo Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Gareth, I don't think you have anything to worry about, Carbys are Carbys , nothing like EFI. your still a Classic. Quote
Riceburner Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 I've got the carbs stripped down, I've managed to couple up a set of six with spacings to allow for an almost straight inlet runner. They had to be stripped down completely to individual carb bodies, then put back together with the required spacers. I had some brass bushes machined up to allow the two sets to be locked together, all thats left to do is machine a shaft to operate all six slides. I'll also look at getting some Boyesen quickshot2 accellerator pump covers, these will hold/flow more fuel than the stock type and help when the throttle is cracked. Quote
Riceburner Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I've got the throttle shaft sorted, have started on the aluminium inlet manifold. It's 12mm thick with 37mm dia ports to starts off, I'll be using 40mm i.d. alum pipe with 3mm wall for the runners. I could weld it myself but depending on cost I'd like to get a pro to do it. Anyone know any good tig welders? Quote
luvemfast Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Have you trial fitted that flange mate? Looks like it needs more metal removed around the exhaust Quote
Riceburner Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Yep your spot on Simon, my stainless header flange is a slightly different shape to most so I'll have to mark it out before the rest is milled off. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 Fitted the chrome booster to the Ricey yesterday. After I pulled the old, very tired one out I had a look inside for the first time since I've owned the car. To my surprise I found that the seal around the pushrod had cracked and and some shifty bugger had used silicone for a bodgey diy repair Would this huge crack/split stop the booster from working? I did notice there was no vacuum noise when I removed the booster hose, but the car hasn't run for quite some time. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 That could help explain your fast times at the track. If your brakes aren't working, you'd be faster right? Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 ooooohh shriney ricey Looks a bit better than the old one. That could help explain your fast times at the track. If your brakes aren't working, you'd be faster right? Maybe that's why I ended up bogged up to the control arms at honda hairpin! ha. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Another small update, I managed to squeeze in a little more work on the doors. Both door frames were stripped then painted with color matched spray cans, the finish came up very well. Also I stripped back the drivers door to find 80% of it was full of bog.... and for no real reason. I think it in very good condition with two or three small spots that will require a tiny bit work, the rest is dead straight. Passenger door looks to have no filler. Also have the new door cards ready to go on finally! Quote
Riceburner Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Got some goodies in the post. I'll be removing the 'c' pillar badges and fitting these instead, they're called 'Hakosuka Works Aero Vents'. They should blend in with the car fairly nicely and replace those ugly badges. At this stage I'll paint them the same as the body color. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Quick temporary paint job, test fit on the car with blue-tack They match the car really well, I may fit some mesh inside them later on. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 I got a baffled sump that will go on with the Kameari gasket I got from Jake. Hoping this seals that pesky little leak that the old sump has. Quote
