Muscle car owners

ive recently spent some time on the muslce car forums (not wanting to name which ones) 

 

ie trying to find out what people have done and what they recomend etc... just like here.

 

but i have noticed a big big difference in mentality.

 

lot of these muscle car owners have few lose bolts in their head.

 

anything other than the norm of 750cfm holley carbies and various rola cams and stroker kits msd ignition and superchargers u better dont mention. 

 

these guys spend more money on engine rebuilds (internal) than we spend on total with car body engine suspension etc. and what bad the cars are still pathetic. yeah sure it will last 100yrs and outlive me. whats the point all money spent on making it strong and nothing in performance still pumping 300hp. LOL

 

u mention jap cars u get burned like theres no tommorow. turbos oh no its the 5 letter devil word in muscle car region. 

 

though being a shit sterer that i em i gave them bit of piece of mind but suprisingly still get burned the y wont budge nor will i im still pushing efi and turbos  .

 

though there are some great guys on there that see beyond the crap of american muscle car and are interested to help or thinking about it. but there are so many hardcore guys that is unbeliavable.

 

ive been on the classic muscle car cruise with my zed few times in SA. its very daunting only 3 or 4 jap classics vs array of 500 US and OZ muscle cars.

 

the looks i get is scary (non good) called jap tin box, jap crap u call that a car etc.....

it realy pisses u off.

 

i like all cars expecialy if they nicely presented and looked after. i dont go crapy v8 whats the on top of it? washing machine?  oh no corners we better dont go there. we wont make it. no i still admire them and the work they put in.

 

though even though i was forced to prove something with the old Z. it sure did. the so called V8 terrors and their 6L engines didnt stand a chance vs the 2l 6cyl jap tin crap. and thats in straight line. though im sure there were cars there with 200k spent on it and having 600hp plus that would make me look like i was standing still but they not the ones that are wankers about it.

 

 

finding info is so hard when u try to find facts. where are these bolt on supercharger guys having 500hp on stock engine in their monaros and falcons. what ive found it doesnt exist.

 

jap stuff is so much better.

 

anyway just venting off.... its so annoying all i want to know what engine will suit boosted aplications. what i do with it its my F car so live with it.

i do like some American and Ozzy muscle, but some muscle car enthusiasts and there knuckle dragging attitudes make it hard for me to appreciate them.

I dont know why they have to be so one eyed. They are the ones missing out on some of the finest cars form around the world

My oppinion is that the jap's and euro's are far ahead of the American cars to offer

yeah I agree I like all cars too. American cars are funny. Most are crap but occasionally they come up with a real gem. Some Corvettes, Mustangs but oh well each to their own.

Ive found it very hard to understand the prejudice people have to cars of all sorts try going to a street machine show with a jap car you just know you never gonna win most popular and your car is gonna have to be twice as good at anything to win an award even then the average punter ask why you got the award over the ford or holden

But then go to a zed nationals with a street machine type zed and you know there gonna be looking at ways of seperating u from the standard classes i went to first 2 zed nationals and at the second when i won best modified 240z should have heard some of the guys upset my car was too modified by the time the third nationals regulations came out there was a limit to how modified your car could be to qualify for modified or you went into street machine race car class

The zed forum i visited most before this one was not interested in modified cars looked down there noses at you and openly advised you to go to another site

Think forums are bit like clubs you need to find the ones that suit you cause most of them arent going to change for any reason its like our club as is or dont come back

personaly not into that stuff but i do respect it and i do put my hat down to the guys that do it.

 

i dont stick my nose up in the air and say ehh its stock heap of shit. but i em genuinly amazed how its done.

 

but they should respect the person that droped in a hipo motor and detailed the crap out of the car as well.

 

i look at the work and detail that put into the car.it could be LADA for god sake but if person showed the passion for it good on them.

 

yeah pitty that there is clowns with horse blinkers out there.

Havn't you just bought the Mustang notchback.......pity you havnt connected with the right crew for your needs, Ive been involved in Muscle for many many years without your issues, but I think youll find the people your talking about are street machine mag readers who have looked at some gear, shot their load and said yeah Ill have that without actually knowing what they want other than " Hey Dude " I spent a $100k plus to build my car how much was yours, when in reality you can build a tough streeter and drivable ball tearer for a whole lot less.... not all of us Muscle owners are like that...

 

Ohh, and not to be one sided I think you forgot to mention that the Nizmo rice jet burner set can also have their heads up their keesters

Too right! I think the problem is related to the way some sites are moderated and the age groups that certain makes and models attract.

 

Most forums are just that! Someone has thrown up a forum for a certain make and model and that's all the love and attention it gets. When I started (with lots of help from Sulio) Viczcar now of course Auszcar I wanted to grow a community of enthusiasts willing to help each other and share information.

 

Setting out forum rules and making it clear is really important, but I also think that having member rides featured on the site adds that community feel and people can get to know each other that bit better. Also the drive days and other meets are opportunities for the same.

 

I would also be fairly confident that the age group of enthusiasts on this site tends to me a more mature group and we have lots of older fellas here (which is great!)

 

I personally admire many of the same muscle cars and I don't have a prejudice towards any other makes and models myself. In fact there is something to like about all different cars. Variety is the spice of life, so they say.

 

I guess I like Japanese cars because they are the under dog. The cars that people always write off or dismiss without a second thought. For me the greatest tragedy for cars this century is the rapid disappearance of many Japanese classic cars from our roads. Take the Datsun 240K Skyline for example. There practically is none left!!!!!! I have a wallpaper on my monitor at work of a 240K turned into a Skyline KPGC110 GTR replica and the funny thing is the amount of comments it gets. When people come over to see me they are like 'cool car', 'awesome looking car' or they see the Skyline badge and love it.

 

I have a feeling I'm not the only 1 who has a strong passion for the Japanese Classics and as much as I respect and admire muscle cars I just prefer the J-tin because there unique and funky and odd and that's what makes them so cool.

 

I've been to hot rod shows and I find that people into Hot Rods are genuinely quite good. I think it just comes down to the forum you visit and the audience that forum attracts.

 

I've been to some meets sometimes in my Zed (A couple of Commodore Cruises) and it is interesting to see the various reactions to the car you really do get a mixed bag though.

Growing up the school yard was either Holden or Ford, like a footy team you had to choose a side. So I chose Japan. After seeing how the Holden and Ford kids treated each other under the guise of manufacturer allegiance with no real automotive knowledge, I decided that there must be another option.

 

Sure both Holden and Ford kids ripped into me but I didn't care coz I wasn't the clueless lemming. Later I learnt what driving really was (not just 1/4 mile speed). So now that I had broken free of the Holden v Ford stupidity I could see so much more in other makes and models. Eventually I found the Z

 

Every time I meet a car enthusiast that has made automotive engineering (mechanic) their life they comment on their  appreciation of the Z.

 

Anyone who insults the Z (or any other car that isn't a Holden/Ford) is ignorant and need to be allowed to sit in the drivers seat.

This same attitude is everywhere, with PC gamers hating console gamers, ford vs holden, piston vs rotary, white people vs black people.  They just refuse to see anything other than their narrow view point.

 

In the meantime I'll happily enjoy this niche car culture of classic J-Tin.  It's so awesome, it's like a secret club for the few.

There's quite a few in Sydney. That specific hako is still having problems if you follow the blogs over at JDMST or on japanesenostalgiccar. But a bloody fine car.

Unfortunately alot of cars from Japan are not as good as the pictures would have you believe. I guess the same is true anywhere really but you have to be so careful when importing vintage cars like that.

 

There is at least 2-3 others floating around Australia and it wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple more on the way in.

 

I hope Jim still owns this one. I met him at the 2005 nationals and he was a really great guy. Seemed to really like the old Skyline.

Love the colour scheme of this Skyline... do you or others know the OEM colour and code? Kind of looks like a blend between grey and very light silver. Thought that colour might work on the 240Z, given i'm going with the matt black wata's.

There are definately 5 hakos in Sydney.

 

Babs,

his tow truck guy owns one,

his engine builder owns one,

2 other people who were getting their engines done at that engine builder who also know Babs.

 

minimum of 5 in Sydney alone.

 

Also if you have a zed and you want a engine to be done i think its a good idea to check where babs had his L28 done.

The guy did the long yard. even reprogrammed his distributor curve in order to make it sweet.

The head however was ported/improved by Tony Knight at Knight Race Engines in SA...

Two of my mates have muscle cars, one has a fully restored xa gt, beautiful car and the other has a 67 or 68 camaro currently being restored and my folks have a xb gt coupe, all of them love my 240z

The 240z to me is great because unlike a Camaro, Mustang or GTHO or whatever, its actually a genuine two seater 'sports car'. That is, light, nimble, well sorted suspension, excellent weight distribution, and powerful engine (even in standard 240 guise). I'm not familiar of any 'muscle' car anywhere, particularly in the above category that actually fits the description of being a 'sports car', as most are factory modified sedans / coupes made to be like a sports car. The 240Z is a total gem in many senses of the word and properly prepared will give any marque a good shake-up. I look forward to my next drive with the porsche guys... albeit that might not be for another 18 months !!

I think you should look up the definition of Sports Car and Touring Car......

 

Any car properly prepared thats had enough money thrown at it will give anything on the road a good run.

 

None of the Muscle vehicles mentioned have EVER been called or marketed as sports cars.

No sorry I don't know the colour code of the skyline. I'm fairly certain that colour wasn't used on the 240z as the 240z silver was quite different.

Why not combine the two. Jap with muscle. Chev in a Zed and you get the best of both worlds. Problem is you will never fit into either group. Purists on both sides won't appreciate your car. But if you don't care about that and produce a quality car that the owner is happy with then that's all that matters. As the performance (Speed & handling) by combining the two is awesome.
