Kent Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Hi Guys, just wanted to make a quick intro for myself. My name is Kent, and live in Sydney. I currently have 2 datsun C110 240K's (early skyline), one of which is getting an RB26DETT, and the other being a 240K GT (one of the first in the country). I have always had my eye out for a Z since my mate bought his 260Z 2+2 (managed to convince him to get triple webers, but keeps resisting any urges to do anything else, probably a sensible thing considering how much my RB26 240K is going ). considering the prices of 2 seaters, i never thought i would find one without spending a substantial amount. However, much to my joy, i found an ebay auction for a 72 240Z a week ago with a bargain buy now price. it worred me that the car ahdn't already been snapped up.. but after speaking to my mate, we couldn't see any drawbacks.. so i bought it. Unfortunately it means i have to sell my GT (which i had hoped to restore to original condition) to make room.. but hopefully it is worthwhile! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330298978717#description Picking the car up on the coming long weekend, so the details on it are still a bit sketchy.. but from what i can understand the car comes with most parts (thought not sure of quality) except for the bumpers. It may be a while before i get to the 240Z (have to get moving on my 240K first), which gives me time to research and work out what i want to do to her (very tempted to either RB it, or stroke it). look forward to interacting with you all and learning Kent Quote

Things are a bit slow at the moment in the new year but the Sydney guys do meet up regularly and you are welcome. Just keep an eye out for the Sydney posts. I have been spending the last couple of days trying to become accustomed to the differences of the Z, parts that are out there etc. i have to admit it is nice to have such a HUGE amount of tried and tested information out there. I think the hardest part for me is trying not to touch the 240Z until i have finished my RB26 240K (having said that, i am off tomorrow to pickup an L28 , still havn't decided on what i will end up doing with the Z in the long term though) I will post some pics here when i get the car next weekend (can't wait!) and update my website www.project240k.com, shame project240z.com is already taken Quote

Kent Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Hi Guys, thanks for the continued welcomes! picked up the car on the weekend.. unfortuantely i had to pick one of the hottest days this summer to go and do it (45 degrees!) it was a bit of a hurried pickup due to the heat, so i havn't had any time to go through things, but it looks like there may be quite a bit of trim missing (especially interior).. the engine was "put in the car", literally.. in the passenger footwell in pieces the body looked ok, but won't know until we strip it all properly, someone had obviously started some rest repairs and run out of time (so again, not 100% sure how well the current repairs are) i still think it was a bargain.. but i guess that depends on how hard it is to find all the small bits and pieces that it will take to complete.. NZeder Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Just about all zed have rust repairs - some might recall a mint 240z that was for sale on Trademe.co.nz here in NZ (used to be owned by a Nissan Dealer and they did a resto on the car at some point) it sold for $30ish NZD I have now been told the new owner has found lots of bog and rust. So just because a car looks good it might be as bad as the one with the warts and all. So at least you know what you have - a cheap zed with some parts missing and rust repairs and the best thing is you got it for a good price. Quote
Kent Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Hi Guys, sorry it has taken me a bit to update, the last couple of weeks have been a little crazy with Work and hosting an engagement party. I finally got time to see what was in the car over the weekend, and the answer is not much Bodywork seems to be "ok", with some bits and pieces already having been repaired.. but i can imagine under the surface there may be a lot more. I think the car has had a bit of a minor accident in the front left aroudn the hood hinge area. the majority of the interior is missing though, as is the Australian compliance plate (is it try that some 240z's don't have them?).. hopefully that won't cause me too much drama, as the only paperwork i have is the reciept from the seller. From the wazcar site, i gather it is an 08/72 car.. and atleast the engine block matches the build plate I am guessing 240Z interior pieces like door trim etc. are going to be hard to find (though fingers crossed!) but luckily i have time on my side I am still super excited about the car, i am swaying heavily towards selling the F54/P90 i bought and going for an RB26, in which case i think i will have to strengthen the chassis some how.. but there is a long road ahead in bodywork first i think! mossy Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Try here for door trims https://www.americanautos.com.au/secure.html and look at getting your car blasted, I had mine done a week ago and it showed rust holes I didn't think I had, or you could try hand stripping which I started but its not an easy job. Then there those that have them vertically and others that have them horizontal - lots to learn but you will get there Quote

mossy Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 It cost $500 to get it blasted everywhere, you will probably have to have a rotissorie though so the can blast underneath, I think its well worth it for the money, if I had done it by hand there is no way i could have got a result like this, not to mention the time and money it would have taken. RBZ 260 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 yeah i got 2X 240z series 1hatches with glass. one has no line at all or wiring for it while the other one does have the vertical ones. the on ethat has no demister is early 1970 number #227 the otehr one is a 72 but it has lot of parts on it from a series 1 including the vented rear hatch and vertical demister which is intact and working very well. so if it doesnt have adr plates most 1970 and some 71 dont have it u dont need a demister. or u can always say it never came with one LOL....
