Just curious if anyone out there would be interested in my RB25DE conversion; motor, gearbox and anything else needed (except ECU and throttle bodies) but comes with the inlet manifold, mounts and exhaust. Found out it will need an engineers report and funds don't allow that. If you are on CH you don't need a report. I need to get my car registered and just dont have the dough to do both. You should be able to run this engine with Webers/Dellorto's with an addition of a MSD ignition system to run with the cam angle sensor. Price will be negotiated depending on how much of the setup you need. Just for the motor, gbox and inlet manifold will be $1300. (new cam belt and water pump have been fitted)

if its all done right anyway, shouldn't the engineers only cost $700ish? Only a bit more than a years normal rego?

do you have a price for your ecu and throttle body set up too? or your attached to it after the effort you've put in, and have hopes to put it back in one day?

An engineer I phoned today quoted $750 + GST for the report but I'm worried its going to escalate more by the time he does a report on the brake upgrade etc..Who knows what else they find and charge...I've never had to do anything like this before. If I don't sell it I'm not really worried; I can install a L24 with the round tops drive it like that for a while then re install it when I'm cashed up again. The reason to sell now if I can get what I want is to lower the debt a tad and still enjoy the zed. With everything as is, I'll have to add on another $3500 for the lot..or like a package deal for about $4700. That's for everything you need to run it all. I am attached to it...I can still use the ITB's and ECU on the L24 without a problem. Just have to buy another manifold and other bits and pieces.

I know my old man got his sprite insured through shannons with out a engineers and they werent bothered.

Im not suggesting or anything :P

I was going to send you a PM, but I really shouldn't since I'm not even in the country. That damn euro has to be trading so well at the moment :).

Plus I would probably have to sell my LD28 crank and L14 rods and Triple Mikuni's to really justify it and those L14 rods are not easy to find and the Mikuni's cost me a good $1500 AU once they were imported from the states.

The more I think about this the more of a good idea it looks like oooops.

I should be buying a guitar, not an RB25 :)

ahh i see you dont understand, if he could get it insured with shannons with the RB getting it regoed would be easy, drop the L donk back in, reg it, then drop the RB back in. to easy. Illegal yes but that why i said im not suggesting or anything :) you NSW guys forgot we only have to RWC once not every year. Good luck with the sale Dimitri. Are you going to do up your original motor?

After all that effort, personally I would wait until you can afford to put her on the road. Someone will get a good deal if you do sell it though.

Hey never knew that !! you guys get a pinkslip once and thats it.

We nsw guys has too every year, they check everything (bastards)engine numbers etc

So that means you can drive around in a shit box that once passed a rwc (crazy RTA mexicans)

right on, its quite funny when you put it that way.

Im interested in what Dimitri plans on doing next, and if i hadnt started my own engine build i would have taken some serious thought about his RB $1300 is very cheap, and if you had triples then almost the same power could be extracted.

From memory the RTA did a big survey some years ago..it cost a huge amount of money as it was very comprehensive. They interveiwed thousands of people in each state. The findings were that people living in NSW were very shifty and needed to have their cars looked over every year!

Of coarse the same survey found most of the honest people had moved to Victoria hence the difference in the laws!  ;D

That's why when you come to Melbourne, you are greeted by hoards of rust buckets and cars held together by coat hanger wire...death traps.

So what are you selling and what price are you after?

Getting confused with all the other talk about extra's and so on. ???

For just the motor, gearbox and mounts (pretty much all you need to fit into the car) will be around $1500

(forgot to add the price of the sump!) and if you want the works with fries and upsized, it will be around $4700 almost everything you need to run. I doubt I'll sell the whole lot, but what I'm thinking now is just remove it for now, install the L24, reg it then drive for a while then re fit the RB after some more tweaking since its easier on a stand than in the engine bay plus I can still drive it on cruises etc...Lot's of thinking to do. Tonight just did some work preparing for this weekend; lifted the engine about 10mm and some tidying up...

think your self lucky your not in NZ we do them every 6 months it is called a WOF (warrant of fitness) and for any non standard mods you need a cert (well somethings are ok, like standard engine with mods but power not increased by 20% from factory ie remove twin SU and stock manifolds install triples and a header is ok, install lowered springs that are captive and designed for the car ie King lows for the 240z etc are ok so long as the car has 100mm of ground clearance etc) anything else brake upgrade, adjustable suspension, engine upgrade all need certs. The 20% rule is for things like larger turbo's + chips etc that will increase power by more than 20% on the stock engine this is so the engineer can ensure brakes/suspension etc are upgraded to match....blah....blah

And all this get checked every 6 months cost us $40 each time

I take it theres no problems with sheep skin seat covers  ;D

how did you get that picture of me :)

Just so you all know I have over 43 lamb's this season from my 40 odd ewes so I have quite the flock on the little farm just north of Auckland - see zoomed out google map of my house attached (and framed small block of land)

Anyway this is a little off topic.

So don't sell the RB25DE conversion stuff - put the L24 in get it road legal while you save the $$ for the install again at a later time when the funds permit. Hell if you keep it I will sell you that SS RB25DE header I picked for a good price however not sure on the shipping to AU from NZ would be on headers here a link to the headers FYI but this deal only stand if you keep the RB25DE and not to the new owner if you sell it (ie an incentive to keep it) http://nzeder.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=151 now I can keep hold of these until you put the RB back in the car and it is road legal and can afford to pay my small price and the shipping so hows that for a deal - these headers cost $2200 AUD new and I will sell them to you for $300 AUD

With a deal like that Nzeder I'll keep the setup! A part of me didn't really want to part with it...It was almost like climbing Everest, the summit another 10ft away then saying to hell with it...I'll come here again next year! I'll gladly pay that and whatever shipping costs...Just give me your banking details and I'm done! How can I thank you?

After all you effort and pics/inspiration just keeping the RB25DE and installing it later is thanks enough. Pleased to help out - and if Dad still works for AirNZ when you get back to this stage we can get the shipping at the right price too I hope.

Well, after the Vic meeting we just had and some words exchanged, I think it's a whole lot cheaper to just get the engineers report with everything as it is. By the time I install the L24, buy some headers for it, new gaskets, modify the exhaust to fit, change fuel pumps re-install all the linkages and the other 20 things I can think of, I'll just save heaps of time and swearing in the shed and engineer it. Don't know what got into my head to part with it.......thanks all!
