Stainless molding on outside top of doors with rubber window wipe.

I have been waiting since last November for a pair of these moldings from MSA in America. They can't supply.

My stainless strips are not too bad it is just the rubbers that are very hard.

There is a place here in the Newcastle area that specializes in rubbers for old cars but he does not have anything to match the profile of the original.

To make things worse I have removed one of my rubbers from the SS strip so have to do something.

What do other people do to overhaul theirs?

Thanks.

Have you tried matching the rubber profile with some generic thin edge blade at Clark Rubber? Even if you have to trim a profile down.

And once you have them you can reattach them to the stainless steel strips which should just need a good polish. Assuming some errant panelbeater hasn't hit them with his angle grinder that is.

There should be little black plastic push in end trims on the ends of the stainless steel sections to close them off.

Hello Gilltech tomorrow I will go to both Clark Rubber and Rare Spares.

Cbr Jeff I have been looking but apparently they are no longer available from Zcarsource. They do have one pair of NOS for $800 US. That is pretty hot.

Thanks to all those trying to help.

I have been looking on Zcardepot while waiting for Motorsport auto to get them in but no luck.

Last night I found a Zcardepot part number that was not on their website when you go looking under seals and weather stripping.

So I wrote to them to see if they had them and a price for shipping.

When I looked at emails this morning there was a reply with a shipping price so I ordered a pair.

Lets hope they are okay when they get here.

Hopefully not part# :  800-2272 as I looked at this and it is a poor replica for the OEM part.

Hi AndBir,

No they are part number 800-1578 and it says they have the upward curve at the back.

I certainly hope they will be okay as it worked out at $400 US with shipping.

We will see.

Let us know what you think of them.

I have to get the replacement rubber bit/scraper (officially known as outer door belting) and will need to check the measurements of mine versus the Aveska product referenced in my post above.

Hello AndBir,

I don't expect them for about a month but I will give feedback.

Once again thanks to everyone for help.

Just wanted to post my results using the profile mentioned by AndBir to replace my rock hard window rubbers. I actually bought the length required from here for $60 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233226011571?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Looks very similar to the profile CBR Jeff got from zcarsource, and is nicely flocked on the window wiper. I ground off the staples holding my old rubbers to the stainless and used 3.2mm (4.8mm depth) aluminium rivets to install the new rubbers. I think they turned out really well, so many thanks to AndBir for the tip which spurred me on to finally do something about them.

Looks good, I need to do mine so, thanks to your work, I can confidently purchase these (and at a cheaper price via ebay) :D

As I had to replace the squeegee's on Wag's 240Z, I did some digging and came across Skillards video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOhVwokT93w

And I also looked on eBay and found them:

We then fitted them up with new staples, making sure that the 'foot' of the rubber goes UNDER the securing strip.
The only issue - if you can call it an issue - is that the squeegee is taller then the OEM squeegee. They cant be cut down as they wont touch the glass.

The Skillard style molding is a completely different profile to the one I used. There is no way that would fit under the chrome strip, plus I liked the idea that any water would run off the door instead of making it's way into the door skin via the ends of the rubber. It doesn't look as clean, but is functional and a similar design to the Commodore door belt setup.

I didn't like the look of the Skillard type molding as the rubber looked very tall, although in your pic it doesn't look too bad

Hello,

Sorry about the delay. I had forgot that I was going to report back on these.

I received a pair from Zcar depot and they come in a hard cardboard tube for protection.

I feel they are pretty good. Look the same as my originals.

The only problem is the price but if you want to bring your car back to as new then that is what you have to pay.
