Hunter Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 WTB: 240Z Z432/Z432R Style Mesh Grille Picture is attached, This one was on E-Bay. Quote
fufu Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 oooo very rare. Would cost a pretty penny for one of those as well. Best looking at overseas for that. Quote
24OZ Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 hey andrew, a friend of mine, mike r(have a look at his webpage http://www.bluevista.net.au/MikesRB26Z.html) has one of these but it's not for sale,i have my doubts whether they were common and whether anyone would part with one for less than 2 limbs what did the ebay one fetch? may be easier to get one fabricated, they don't appear too complicated paul ps still snowed in Quote
Hunter Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 I was thinking of getting the boiler maker at work to make one for me. Any chance you could get your mates measured up for me? Also measure the mesh size I want it as original as possible. I did not watch the item damn it, just copied the pic. I think it was around $250 to $300 when I grabbed the pic. Another car with a 432 grill P.S. Snow has melted Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 As a Boilie myself, that would be piss easy to make. Just make the frame to the size & shape you want, and then get some light mesh from a steel supplier. You'd have it made for under $100 too - there’s no way I'd buy one for over $250!!! Quote
zedevan Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I have one, you dont want to know what I paid for it! My understanding is they were a factory part on some 2+2's, and i got it off a 2+2 at a wrecker so...A person who has been around zeds for 30 years or so asked about its origins and told me it is most likely a copy, however from all the pics i've seen i can't spot a difference. You're right, they wouldn't be to hard to make, i'd be more than happy to measure it up and give you a drawing but i dont have the time atm. although you would probably replicate it out of RHS, where the real ones are a pressed profile by the looks of it. if anyone in melb wants to borrow it and get someone to copy it i dont have a problem with that at all, or i could lay it ontop of the stock grill so you can see how similar in size it is and just get it made from that and a few other photos of how its done? maddos Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I have one which came with an import 2+2 parts car but am putting it on my 240. I have read in another forum , think it was a queensland based one where they reckon they aren't so rare in that neck of the woods. Might want to try posting on one of their forums. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 23, 2008 Administrators Posted July 23, 2008 Guys it is my understanding that this mesh grille was fitted to all Japanese Market Vehicles. Except of course the ZG (HS30-H) version. You will find this grille on everything from the basic Fairlady Z-L S30 to the upper market 432r race version. On that same topic the slotted grille was to extend all the way to the bottom below the bumper, however the bean counters at Nissan decided to not extend it all the way down as it wasn't all that visible and it would save them a few pennies. You can still get these grille's and I often see them on Ebay. I know that Eiji at www.datsunspirit.com has often posted these on ebay and can probably obtain one for you. As Lurch said though they are fairly basic in construction and shouldn't be too difficult to make. @Hunter if you do get one made up, can you try and document it and share it with the community? I think the biggest challenge is getting the Mesh to match in terms of pattern and the center bend in it. On another side note I'm told that many Japanese owners seek out our version of the slotted grille. The grass is always greener I guess - although I personally like the mesh version more myself. C.A.R. Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I would hazard a guess that the mesh is simply 'flat rolled diamond experment'. It won't be hard to source... Quote
gilltech Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I concur with gav240z - all of the ex Jap home market used import 240 & 260 zeds that came into NZ years ago that I've ever seen had the mesh grille, so in NZ at least they can't be rare. It was an easy way to tell a Jap import car apart from a Z sold new in NZ or another country such as Australia or UK. (They also had 'Fairlady' badges, not '240Z' or 260Z', and the 2L 6-cyl motor). Unfortunately many of the used import 240 & 260 zeds ex Japan were rusty & became basket cases so have perished, so there must be spare mesh grilles around. Perhaps try the NZ Zed club? Quote

RBZ 260 Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 yeah my self dont know whats that big deal with the mesh style. but everyone to its own. to me does look like a save a peny exercise on behalf of nissan. but also these mesh ones are lighter by few grams mesh wont be hard to match. just need to source the flimsy metal bits and corners and you can poprivet one at home LOL... fairly simple things.
