Hi guys my names Dan,

i have had my eye on my friends dad’s datsun 260z 2+2 for about 10 years now and due to some health circumstances he has decided to sell it to me. Its a 1974 model with l26 and manual box. Currently red but factory green i beleive.
my plan is to take l26 and box out and install rb25det engine and 5 speed box. Ive owned many skylines and jdm imports but never a Z so would like to combine the look with the power from new heart!
im an auto electrician by trade and have been for 10 years now. If you have any electrical questions im more than happy to receive pm’s through the forum and ill also try my best to help out with posts asking for help!

good to be here and im sure there will be many questions but from ive seen so far there is an exstensive amount of info here !

Here are some pics of when we bought the car. I was reading through the service history and it only has 66,000kms. we also found an rb25det With gearbox, ecu and loom for a good price! I got to see it running  the car beforehand and apparently only has 117,000kms but you never know with import cars!

Congratulations Dan on the purchase and welcome.

Looks like you've started with a reasonable car and so have done well there. The RB25 will be a good combo and with your trade background, a bit of time and money you should be able to make it happen.

Slight up date

pulled main interior bits out to inspect floor and overall condition. No rust in the floor which is awesome news! Found some rust in both doglegs but minimal thank god!

can anyone tell me if the seat pattern is factory spec? And also if the 260z 2+2 came out with carpet? Ive seen a lot have a checkered almost vinyl setup, which mine has under the carpet, but seeing if someone has put carpet in or not.

Sorry for the lack of updates!
but have basically been buying up parts, and spending time with my family as my son has been averaging a hospital visit once a month for respiritory issues :( which usually lasts 2-4 days

majority of interior is out ready to start cleaning it all up and have a very thorough inspection for rust and damages including the dash pad. I plan on repairing this myself so hopefully i can make it look a lot better than pictured! Im getting seats in black that have been restored and also new carpets etc. have a nardi steering wheel too! Im still deciding what gauges will go in it... id like to keep the old school look to the dash

bought some flush rota rbr wheels for it but we have decided to go fender flares route and will not sit Properly once installed. Wheels are for sale in another thread!

have also decided on a colour for the car once painted.... ruby red from the new ford mustang! Getting excited now!

Heres a few pics including my boy in his car!

The chequered vinyl over the tunnel is correct for a '74, the much later cars had carpet. The seat covers would have been black vinyl overall as per the rest of the interior not that two tone cloth.

Hey mate great work so far. You should start a build thread in members projects.

sorry to hear about your boy. Nothing worse than seeing your kids sick. Hope he’s on the mend. I know how hard it is to make car time with young kids around.
