400kw@wheels in a front wheel drive.............Yuk!  I'm alergic to front wheel drives  ;D

I've heard historic sports sedans are becoming popular.  The other thing is, do they currently run under the sports sedan rules as per the CAMS rule book?  For the shannons nationals aren't they running under different rules with the Transam class cars from NZ?

Will be interesting to hear how it goes.  Wouldn't be easy to get the necessary power reliably out of an SR!

lol, yeah i know, but the TRD ones (a mate has one) seem to put the power down impressively for a fwd.  Hell even a mates turbo Pulsar SSS hauls arse with the loss of traction and axle tramp..lol

It's funny how it all goes sometimes, Waxhead I was just reading about a Yellow SR20 powered late model RX-7 in an old Zoom Magazine, Built for Keith Carling after he sold his 300ZX, Terry Shiel was driving it at the time. I wonder if it's the same car as your helping with? If so, it's once again a very small world.

I tried hard to buy a old log booked 1600 sports sedan before the historic rules came out, I had a great heads up to the class getting historic rating well before it happened thanks to being a state CAMS delegate......didn't happen, got the mighty Zed instead! The local Toyota car dealer down here has brought back his old 5 litre Repco V8 powered Celica Sports Sedan, built by John McCormack and restoring it for historics. Funny thing is, It was the subject of a 'where is it now' article in the current issue of Aust Muscle car.

As PZG said the mighty MR2 can only run a N/A engine as well. I've been very impressed lately with a couple of MR2 turbo's weve got running in our club, mildly tuned and sticking it up the Wankels which are in the same class, there 1st splits at hillclimbs are as quick as some 4wd's!! mind you they got nowhere near Scando in the Zed the other weekend!!

I might have to put one of these V6 thingy's in my Cruiser!! My good mate has a V8 powered 100 series Crusier which is generally considered the fastest tow car in Tassie, a blown v6 transplate in mine might fix him up?

I wonder if Kevin Mackrell's 4wd Chev powered 260Z 2+2 would really be Aust's fastest Z car?

I've just had two strong coffee's...that might explain the above babble...sorry.

haha its funny you should say that, I was considering throwing one in my HJ75 Troopie cruiser.  The 1UZs are a kick arse engine, but I think this V6 is better :o

It's One of those things, Mackrell's car would most likely be the quickest Z on a hillclimb but the 4WD would be no good a circuit.  Then I'm sure there's other that would be quicker on a 1/4 mile.  So I guess it's pretty hard to say what's the 'quickest Z'.

I reckon an MR2 would be a very good car to tackle late classic in tarmac rallys.  Age period goes up to 1989 but anything 4WD has to run early modern.  So the mid engine MR2 would have quite an advantage over most the cars, except the Porshces.

Here's a few pics of how KB's new car is being built.  It's a bit expensive to buy a DB9 to hack up for a sports sedan so................

The old school buck method - well done good to see the art/skills are still around :)

Re the MR2 thing - I have been thinking about getting one of these of late - the MR2 Mk1 version - Dad had one for years - it was a lot of fun. I went to look at it the other day (the guy Dad sold it to was/is going to sell it again so we had first option) man he has not looked after it all. So I am still looking for one to pickup for some fun track/hillclimb thrashing.

Back on topic now - sorry.

Well, after the last round of the series at Baskerville I left a little bit disappointed that there was no improvement in lap times when we thought we had found extra power and response with the new computer.  After the meeting we found the hose going on the throttle body was leaking slightly.  We fixed this and added an extra 5% of fuel across the entire map as we know the car likes to run unusually rich.

We headed to Symmons Plains on sunday which is a real power track and I finished the day much happier than when we left Baskerville.  My best time for the day was 60.17 which is 1.6 seconds quicker than than I got at round 1 there this year!  And if my calculations are right I was pulling an extra 10km/h down the back straight.

The track was very wet for qualifying but I went for the old disconnect the front bar trick we learnt last year and the car felt really good.  I qualified 2nd for my class which I was very happy with considering the car that beat me was an evo and there was another evo behind me.  After that I was hoping it would keep raining but it dried out and to my surprise I also managed to finish 2nd in the first race.

After that the other evo beat me for the rest of the day and I finished 3rd overall.  The guy that was running 2nd in the series didn't show after blowing his engine at the last round so I now have a decent lead in the series despite the fact that I haven't been able to match the pace of the front runners.

I finally got my camera working properly so I have some great footage trying to hunt down Uncle Kelvs Skyline in the final.  I'll post it up in the next week or two.  The sound still need some work but the picture is great.  We also setup Hodgo's camera facing backwards in the car and got some interesting footage.

Shane, try bolting or like I did one day, tape on some lens covers with some gaffa tape. Might help make the zed a touch more "slippery" through the air. Could drop the times by a bees!@#...

edit: changed my unit of measure!

The way I see it, you look at any serious zed racecar... not one (there may be the odd exception) has no lens covers so they must do something good. You remove two vertically flat surfaces out of the airstream.

You sound like Vin Diesel.. ask any racer. :)

On a serious note Mr Bond, lets get that car on the homepage. Looks great with the wide wheels and flares, oh and the green paint too! :P

Took me the entire qualifying session to get the balls to hold it flat through there in the wet.  Got my best time when I finally did but I stopped breathing and may have even closed my eyes for a second  :-X

By the way, I like the colour your camera makes my car.  Should have painted it that colour!

I think you're right Dimitri, I reckon it would improve the times at Symmons with the big straights so I may have to look into it.  I've avoided it so far because I don't like the look.  But I'm also starting to think the car needs a big rear wing to settle the bum down through the faster corners so I guess that throws looks out the window  ;D

Thanks Gav.  Where do I find the info sheet I need to fill out for you for the write up?

Simon, the big wing will definately work. My 240 had a RX7 Group C bird bath when first built for 2B Marque Sports and it could be driven flat through turn 1 at eastern Creek, the duck tail won't let you go anywhere near that quick.

I know Dat2kman, Jason will have some moulds soon, and I have a spoiler. They do need to be modified to sit best on the car, and need to be done as a three piece to work properly.

You should get yourself to brisvegas so we can get the aero you need working ;D

lol, i stand corrected.  The wing would do a great job and I reckon maybe the head light covers could make up for some of the resistance from the rear wing judging by those results...? Plus I remember seeing a zed with a tall alloy shopping trolly one on the rear and it actually looked pretty good, im not a fan of whale tails tho..

That was an interesting read NZeder.  I'm sold, looks like a decent aero package is added to the list of summer projects.  I may be able to pick up a big carbon rear wing for free.  I've also been thinking about the front spoiler and was toying with the idea for making a lip that joins to the bottom of my current spoiler like the GTR N1 lip.  But make it so it somehow clips on so it can easily be removed for going on and off the trailer and for getting a trolley jack under the front of the car.

Picked up my new turbo tonight and my new cam should arrive tomorrow.  If all goes well I'll have them on the car for the next meeting.
