Had the final round of our series on sunday at Symmons Plains and guess what?  I broke the gearbox again in the 1st race :)

Pretty sure it was the same thing as what happened at PI cause I still had drive in 4th.  So this meant I ended up 2nd in the series for the year.  It's better than I thought I'd finish at the start of the year but the numbers were down this year so it's not a great effort.

The good news is that the car had good pace.  I didn't manage to go under the minute which was what I was hoping for but that was only cause I drove like a wood duck in qualifying including a big spin off the end of the straight.  I think it should do it easily next season.

So the plan is a Z32 box over summer and upgrade the chassis rails and try again next year  :)

nice stuff, a guy from my work here in melb was telling me about a green z car that was there he said it was flyin, he was on turn1, he asked me if i knew you or the car, and i said no, but there you go i do know you, sort of, love the phillip island track, done as few laps round there myself. Makes me wanna go racing, but i have to wait till bathurst next year, well i have to do 1 shakedown event before then just to make sure its all ok. :)

i have a BA XR8 Tremec at work it is the 5 speed, considered to be one of the toughest tremec's you can get, i was told by the gearbox people that this box is a close ratioand will handle 400+ rwkw final drive is .64 which will give you warp speed in top. leme know if you are interested

Thanks for the offer Lgee but I ordered my Z32 box fitting kit last week.  Should be up to the job and will work out at a reasonable price.  It's much easier and cheaper for me to go for something like that which I know will fit without too much work.

Phillip Island is awesome!  I'd love to go back and have another crack at it if the right opportunity comes up.  Are you doing the 6 hour regularity at Bathurst next year?  In the Bluebird?

Posted

yes i am, its undergoing some transformations at the moment, i would love to take it to Tas and have a crack there, i use to goto the plain's when i was a school boy to watch some track days, best mate's friend had a 180b sss coupe back in the day, webber's were loud as plus the zorst, like to get down south to where our family comes from and drive Baskerville as well, like to do small targa style event.

Yeah, the Bluebird would love Baskerville.  Maybe not as well suited to Symmons but Baskerville is a great twisty little track for the 4WD cars to punch off the corners.

Targa Wrest Point might be a good option for a mini targa style event.  There's also Rally Tas and the Targa Rookie Rally.

Did your mate get any photos at PI by any chance?  Always keen for pics :)

Scando popped up to the north of the state and competed in our Kart track lap sprint day and carved up the local's to score a 2nd outright behind a WRX STI tarmac rally car, and 1st in class. It looked and sounded fantastic!! what a weapon.

Me too.  And now i know exactly what my zed will look like with the Rota RBs im getting, fudgeing hot like yours :D

What widths did you go for Scott?  Your car will look great with them on.

Big thanks to Bluerat and Mrs Bluerat for the accommodation for the weekend.  What Bluerat failed to mention is that he also carved a track in his L20 powered 1600 to win the under 2 litre class by over 2 seconds!  A 200B rally car with an L20 stroked to 2.4 litres also won the 2-3 litre class to give the mighty Datsun badge 3 out of 6 class wins!

I got some good in-car footage from the weekend so i'll put it up on youtube when I get a chance.

I am thinking 17x9 and 17x9.5

I originally tried to go for 17x9 all round but the offset doesn't suit the fronts all that well.  I know there are plenty of guys running them but most of them end up with 225 rubber to squeeze them in under the flares which defeats the purpose for me.  I ended up going for the 8.5 fronts with 9 rears with 245 rubber on the front and 255 on the rear.  The offset on the 8.5's is spot on for the front (if you're running coil overs) so it allows you to run the widest rubber from what I've seen .  There would be room for more rubber under the rear than the 255s but that's the widest most companies make 17 inch semi slicks so there was no point me going to the 9.5.  I'm sure you could get 265 x 17 road tyres though.

How did you go with the Z32 Transmission?

All I've done so far is bought the fitting kit.  My house got started just before christmas so the poor Z has sat untouched since then until I dragged it out for this event.  I just ran a 280ZX box I had kicking about because I knew this event would be easy on the drivetrain.  I'm looking to have a Z32 box in by August to run a round of our state series.

I thought it was. I drive past that track quite often on my way to Burnie.

Small tight track!

just read through this topic and even though I haven't met you Scando - your car is the reason Iam looking to buy a 240 at the moment.  I was talking to your old man about it and I love it.

Might have to come out to an event and see this thing in action.

Cheers, Scott.

In keeping with tradition Scott, you must buy a silver zed.  I don't know of any Scotts that own zeds other than silver.  Just a fact for you.

Thanks Scott.  My old man has put many many hours into it also.  I take it you saw it down at the workshop?  Are you from the Huon Valley?  Unfortunately I'm not running many events this year due to building a house but may run at Baskerville in August.  I'll keep you posted  ;)

Cheers
