sco_aus Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Dude, your car looks fuckin awesome atm. Its really good to see little things happening that are making you that little faster or more consistent each time. Quote
Scando Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 Thanks Scott The new computer arrived today. Fun times ahead fitting it :-\ Next round of the series isn't until late June so that should be plenty of time to get it fitted and tuned. Quote
Scando Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Here's some pics of the front brake upgrade as requested. Sorry for the dodgey phone pics and sorry it's taken me so long to get off my lazy butt and post these up! -The first pic is of the bracket, I know it doesn't look much but it does the job! It would be easy to make something that looked neater. -The second pick shows the hats and the assembly all bolted together in the car. -And the third pic is how it sits under the wheels. If anybody is serious about doing this conversion then I can provide more info but I don't have measurements of the brackets sorry. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 25, 2009 Moderators Posted May 25, 2009 Shane, any luck locating a turbo dizzy? I'm really curious on how and if it's going to work with your ECU for sequential EFI. I may have found one here in Melbourne but from a L20ET. Quote
Scando Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Hi Dimitri, I've bought this Haltech that's just come out: http://www.haltech.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=105&Itemid=20 It can work off the signal from the standard L28 distributor but obviously not with sequential ignition or injection. I'll just get it set-up like that for now and go from there. This computer is overkill for what I want to do now but if I do an RB conversion down the track it'll do everything I ever want to do so that's why I went for it rather than saving $500 now and then finding out I need to buy another new computer later on. waxhead Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I have been looking at the ecu as well It looks like quite a good thing Quote
Scando Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Yeah, it does look like a good thing for the price. And if you want to get really serious you can buy a dash with a g-meter to go with it which will do full data-logging with a track map and readings for pretty much anything you can put a sensor on Quote
waxhead Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Nah not for me Its more than likely what you need in your car for your track work Quote
Scando Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 At over $2K for the dash it's not for me for now either Quote
Scando Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 I finally managed to find some pics from the first couple of rounds of the series Symmons Plains http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=252 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=324 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=520 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=748 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=2328 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=2488 Baskerville http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1079 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1103 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1127 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1209 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1291 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1425 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1475 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1501 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1521 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1571 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1769 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1789 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1847 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=2075 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=2077 Quote
bluerat Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Looks great Shane!! I love the ones of it coming over the hill at Baskerville and the last one taken in the sun set, magic. It didnt take you long to get the Dunlop stickers on it!! Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Looks awesome with the new wheels/flares Shane! They are some ripper shots "No Mr. Bond, I want you to DRIVE!" Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 "No Mr. Bond, I want you to DRIVE!" Corny, but well suited! +1 for the photo Bluerat mentioned Quote
Scando Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 David Clifford that took those shots is pretty handy with a camera hey! He comes to all of the rounds of our series and does a great job. I might have to stop being such a tight...... and buy some of his pics off him Quote
Scando Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Looks awesome with the new wheels/flares Shane! You're not being tempted across to the dark side of flares are you Lurch? Mwahaha Quote
Scando Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Over the past few weeks we've had a big battle getting the car ready for a race meeting at Baskerville yesterday. We had a lot of trouble getting the car to run properly with the new computer but finally got it sorted to go on the dyno friday. The results were good with around 220rwkw and a nice fat power curve. I didn't go all that well yesterday. I hoped to get into the 58's with the extra power which would have made me quite competitive except for Greg Garwood in his GT3RS who was doing 57's. I didn't really get a clear run in the early races and the best time I got was a 59.5, the same as last meeting. Then in race 3, pushing too hard on cold tyres I run over a big ripple strip on the exit of a corner and badly dented the dump pipe. After that the car lost a fair bit of power and about a second a lap. There was also a crash fair in front of me into the first turn in the final which I had to go off the track once again to avoid and lost a few positions. I think I ended up about 4th or 5th for the day. It was still had heaps of fun coming back through the field after my stuff ups but I just didn't get the results I was looking for. The funny thing is that even though I haven't been competitive this year I think I'm now leading the series. The guy that was ahead of me blew up in race 1. I doubt I'll stay there too long though. I also bought a go pro camera and I hoped to have some in-car footage to show you all but the position I mounted it in was no good and you can barely see outside the car. You can just see me wrenching on the steering wheel like a mad man So, I'll get the dump pipe fixed and try again. Hopefully get some good footage to show you next time Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 If your leading the series, thats nothing to be sniffed at! Are you happy with the power outcome of the engine? Looking forward to the camera footage! Quote
Scando Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 I'm happy with the power it's producing from a pretty cheap setup. It's nice and drivable with plenty of torque. The problem with it is it falls away big time at the top end. I've picked up a 2nd hand Garrett ball bearing turbo for a good price which should fix the top end and not loose the good mid-range the car has at the moment...........hopefully. Only things is I'm not sure if I should put it on yet or not. I'm afraid it'll come on a lot quicker and harder and turn the gearbox to scrapmetal. Pics from the weekend: http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=6335 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=6387 http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=6435 Quote
redrbzed Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Scando, modern ball bearing low inertia turbos come in sooner and are more progressive as a result. When I fitted my new turbos I found that the car became more responsive and more "linear" when accelerating. You could limit your boost so that you still have the same max torque down low but more power up top, so your drive train will be stressed to the same level. cheers, Sinisha Quote
Scando Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Thanks for the info Sinisha. It was your advice that convinced me to buy this turbo. Sounds like I need to hurry up and get it on the car Quote
sco_aus Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 If you keep the setups bolt on you could always swap back if not happy. Quote
bluerat Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Cheif, have you filled the FJ box with Smurf blood, Redline Shockproof yet?? It's saved many an overstressed box over the years. Quote
Scando Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 If you keep the setups bolt on you could always swap back if not happy. The turbo I've bought is also a T3 flange so I should be able to do this. It's water cooled but it should be easy to tap some lines in somewhere. I just hope it works with my dump pipe. Cheif, have you filled the FJ box with Smurf blood, Redline Shockproof yet?? It's saved many an overstressed box over the years. I've never heard of it. It's good stuff then? I've only got run of the mill BP gearoil in there at the moment. Quote
