C.A.R. Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Hi does anyone here make a stainless Z battery tray. Found a couple on flea bay but for LHD cars. As in the tray the battery sits in, or the bracket/mount that is spot welded to the inner guard that the battery sits on? Quote
44014 Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Why would you want a stainless battery tray? You cant weld it to the car? Just buy a modern battery that doesnt leak and replace the one you have or get one made. Quote

Just buy a modern battery that doesnt leak and replace the one you have or get one made. A. So it doesn't corrode. B. Bolt it in like the present one. Easier to get out and paint all the time. C. Battery is not that old. What do you suggest? Quote
peter t Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 Sorry Lurch. I seem to have started this topic twice. Can someone combine them. The bracket/mount thats is usually welded in. I took mine out to sandblast it and paint and bolted in back in for ease of access but it has corroded again. So I though a S/S joby would be the way to go. Quote
Agno Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 S/S not the best option here because of the chance of galvanic corrosion corroding your wheel wells prematurely. I would suggest placing your battery in a plastic tray to catch any acid should your battery ever leak. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion Quote

Any suggestions on what battery would be best to use as well? Peter. Quote

C.A.R. Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Peter, do you have the plastic tray with drain tube under the battery? If you don't, you MUST fit one. Quote
peter t Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) Peter, do you have the plastic tray with drain tube under the battery? If you don't, you MUST fit one. Did have one Locky but the tray cracked and thats what started the corrosion. I have bought a new one but it doesnt have the drain tube. Only place I have found that have the drain ones are ex USA unless you can direct me to someone here. All the usual auto shops don't seem to stock them. MSA US$7.00 Might order a few to make it worthwhile. Peter. Edited December 8, 2016 by peter t Quote
44014 Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Just buy a modern Gel or dry cell battery. Such as an odyssey as previously mentioned. Don't get an odyssey though as there over priced. Can get the same thing off ebay for about $150 peter t 1 Quote

Groundhog Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I just removed my battery tray after drilling out the spot welds.I ended up buying a right angle drive chuck to take the spot weld drill.I couldn't access the spot welds with a regular drill. I haven't replaced it yet however I plan to use nutserts and fasteners so it can be removed when I repaint the engine bay.GH Quote

Drilled the sucker out and used Zinc coated bolts so it can be pulled out and cleaned up any time. Only thing I didn't replace the plastic tray due to being slack, now have to clean it up again. Dry cell battery here we come. Quote
