mossy Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Been looking for a Z for a while now and as everyone knows there is virtually nothing out there, but i had a suprise call from my folks today, they have decided to sell me their 240z series 1 with a chevy v8. It needs a bit of work as its only been started once in the last few years and they have had it for 16 years and in that time its done less than 4000kms! Its got a custom body kit on it at the moment with flares, I'd say the flares will stay the rest will be changed, picking it up on Easter so I'll post pics when I get a chance. Quote
fufu Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 oh! exciting. Reminds me of my Zed as well as I'm itching to drive it. Any plans for the Zed? Quote
Glen Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 well done mossy, what size chev is it? Might be an idea to change the oil before you kick it over Quote
mossy Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 oh! exciting. Reminds me of my Zed as well as I'm itching to drive it. Any plans for the Zed? Heaps, I'm planning on stripping it back for some new paint, some fat Watanabes, maybe a supra box(it has a toploader at the moment),some sparcos, coilovers, wilwood brake kit, looks like its adding up already well done mossy, what size chev is it? Might be an idea to change the oil before you kick it over I thought it was a 350 but it may be a 307, I'll have to wait till i pick it up, can't wait! Quote
chris240 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 wow..cool parents my parents have only had crusty cars...280C dado, 80's fairlane, toyota aurion etc etc.... welcome...hurry up with pics. Quote
mossy Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 They've got some cool cars, an XA GT coupe is almost restored at present. I was going to drive up and tow the 240 back on a one way trailer hire but its $450 :-\ so I might see about putting it on a car carrier but that means getting the car running first. Quote
mossy Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Picked up the car, left at 5pm Friday got to Newcastle 5am, left at 4.30pm Sat got home at 5am this morning, what a drive, I had 3 or 4 powernaps on there and back but still too long to drive by yourself I think. Good news about the car is virtually no rust, we had a look at the floors a bit of surface rust no holes or thin metal, rails are good hatch has a tiny amount of rust, can't see the sills because of the flares. Has a 260z fluted bonnet, 327 chev motor, ford toploader which will be replaced with a toyota R154 box. I've got the original taillight too so those skyline ones will definetly be coming out. A lot of work to be done to get it the way I want it but it will all be worth it and I'm wrapt to be starting with a structually sound car. More pics to next weekend, I'm too knackered to take them now Quote
Glen Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 jesus that thing looks set straight to the race track. good to see you got her home, your probably getting some Zzzzzzz's right now haha how i make myself laugh Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 looks similar to the one one of my mates sold, her have a look!!!! http://thezgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1222 early series 1 too # 230, had a massive l28 turbo, but was replaced with a strong l28 na with a 350 holly and pipe etc etc, has some sik recaros in but!!. id just go the t56 6 speed from the us camaro, a straight bolt on and far cheaper, just a lil harder to find, i missed ones on ebay for 1300 ages ago, and havent looked since as im ditching my engineered 283 sbc for a nissan v8 as the chev is a bloody boat anchor!!! have some vids on utube when the chev e=was in it running, but poorly, had a farkeded fuel pump, but burnouts were nice and easy!!! nato Quote
mossy Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 looks similar to the one one of my mates sold, her have a look!!!! http://thezgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1222 Those flares look very similar nat0 Been working on the car a bit, stripped it down of all panels and interior, took the flares off as well. I had a bad feeling there might be rust behind all that bog, so the floors look good the dog legs are knackered the front guards are rusted at the bottom and the rear quarters will have to be replaced because whoever put the flares on butchered the guards. Going to drop the panels off next week to get dipped and start to remove the motor and box so I can paint strip the rest of the body. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 29, 2008 Moderators Posted March 29, 2008 You havent wasted much time! Might be a good idea to bolt some ZG flares on rather than source new quarter panels. Unless you know where to get them from. Looks like someone let loosed with an air chisel and nibbler! Quote
mossy Posted April 5, 2008 Author Posted April 5, 2008 ZG flares are going on, just hoping we can save the quarters. Took the engine and gearbox out today, feel like I'm making a bit of progress. Quote
mossy Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Got some progress on the Z done this week, had the car blasted and we got started on replacing those nasty quarters trial fitting the flares and fitted one sill. We went about another way on cutting the quarters for the flares though, we sectioned the skin bringing the factory arch up about an inch and a half, then cut the factory arch on the flat section so your left with just the skin flaring out, that was also about half an inch cut out so all up about two inches. The angle fit beautifully with the flare angle. Sorry about the pic got a new camera and still working it out. [url=http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=flare1dl4.jpg] http://img8 Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted February 7, 2009 Administrators Posted February 7, 2009 Awesome looking wheels, look like Wat's where did you get them and what size are they? Quote
mossy Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 Thanks for the comments, I really want the car on the road by the end of the year and its looking good so far. They are Watanabes Gav, 16x9 and 16x9.5, I couldn't imagine using any other wheel. I bought them off sfc751 who I think Hunter bought his 240z from also. Gav could I get this moved to the members project section, thanks. Quote
mossy Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Also the doors I'm using for this car are off the red one I bought the other week for $1200. I had both blasted and the drivers one you see in the pic is rust free and the passenger has a hole about 3cm diameter, I'm pretty happy with that. Quote
