Just like the FOSC Bathurst events, they were very mch versubscribed, they chose the entrants firstly from those that had done other prior FOSC events.

James O'Brien, the Challenge organser, has said the same for his event.

David is flat out doing a great job organising the Zed group and more so I'll just mention that all the info including Sup Regs should be in your inbox now if you have expressed interest  ;D

A couple of points, all cars must be either road registered or log booked and tyres are restricted to those listed in CAMS Schedule E, eg curved groove Hankook TDZ221 are OK but twin groove Z214 are not. Read it all for yourself though, there are quite a few points that could be relevant to any entrant and their car.

And volunteers are needed, a great way to be involved in the event without risking a car plus there are perks too. For this contact Paul Clemens email paul.a.clemens@bigpond.com

David has brought to my attention the following part of Schedule E -

"FOR SPEED EVENTS In addition to the tyres listed above: i) Any tyre that is certified and marked on the tyre wall with E-Mark, D.O.T or AS standards shall be acceptable for use in Speed events".

So while Hankook Z214 are not on the CAMS tyre list they are advertised by the maker as being D.O.T compliant.

Just had an email from Dave about this event and there still seem to be some spots available. 0417649622 Is Dave's number if others are wanting to get on board.

Should be a great spectacle and a bucket list for me.

Hi all,

Entries close in just under 5 weeks, in the regularity on November 26th and 27th we have 40 competitors in Group Z Awezome Thunder and a couple doing the super sprints on the 24th and 25th. (26 x Z's and ZX's plus another 6 Datsun's/Nissan's including the Nissan Gibson Motorsport Peter Jackson Group A Gazelle( this car was driven and won Mark Skaife his first Touring Car Championship and Nissan's first Touring Car Championship in Australia))

There are still spots available in our group but the free covered pits are now filled, please PM me.

We have Z's and ZX's competing from all states except Tas. and NT

If you want to join the group from ZCCQ and become a volunteer flaggie or other position for this event and be as close to the action as possible please PM me. Volunteers get meals provided along with free merchandise and free camping in the powered and watered sites in the officials and volunteers camping area behind the pits or free dormitory style accommodation and a local Uni. Please PM me if you want any more info

Challenge Bathurst is 2 months away so if you are thinking of just coming up for the weekend and spectating there are camping spots at the track and accommodation in town.

If you are coming out for the event, will we have 10 garages full of our group on the Saturday and Sunday and  there is 20+ of us camping at the track, and the ZCCQ will have a large covered area for getting together after each days events over in the Officials Camping area near 1st Avenue (we wont be hard to find) so please come over to say hi in the pits or at the camping ground

Not much more than a month to go now, anyone doing any special preparation or is it just going to be another track day? Diff ratios? Aero?

Got new semis for the 280ZXV8, 275's and 245's which have done 20 minutes straight at Morgan Park to put them through a heat cycle without leaning on them too much. Transmission has finally been sorted and the car drives like a dream now, it really is pleasure and fun all in one package :) 3.7 diff ratio and the top gear is 0.75

Diff change from 4.3 to 3.9 for me just to keep it off the limiter down the straight, hurts going up the mountain but we're not playing for sheep stations here either.  Just have to get through High Country and Classic Adelaide in one piece first....

New CAMS-compliant cage is nearly done. Just need to put the dash back in, get a laminated screen, window net, battery cutoff switch and hopefully it will pass its logbook inspection in time to get the logbook back from CAMS.

Otherwise I'll be flag marshaling for the whole 4 days rather than competing : :)

At least it has an engine this time, I only started an engine rebuild about 2-3 weeks out from the 2010 Bathurst event.....

My "trick" setup is 4.44 diff, 6 speed S15 box for the close ratios, and a mighty 102hp from the L18. Hopefully might crack 190 down conrod this time........

With the new Hankooks it turns out that the suspension has too much droop in the front and not enough in the rear. It's early three way MCA and works very well but does not have separate length adjustment so I'm pretty well stuck with it and will have to drive accordingly. There is also quite a difference in ride height between the two fronts too so either the car has a significant right side weight bias, unlikely, or else the two King springs have developed different rates. Bugger.

Only have spring height adjustment Jason and that is dictated by ride height requirements. Can live with a bit of extra front droop but with a Torsen type LSD a fair bit of rear droop is required to keep both wheels on the ground.

Posted

Although wider the new rear tyres are smaller in diameter than the previous tyres due to being a lower profile. I didn't realise that the difference would be so important.

WTF.

How does tyre sidewall height have any effect?

As long as the tyres are the same side to side, the droop is still a function of suspension components (with a negligible portion due to tyre weight).

I think he has had to raise the spring platforms to raise the body to the required ride height with the smaller tyre, hence less droop travel left in the shock.

The coilovers are custom made by MCA to my specs but tyre sizes have changed a lot since they were specced years ago. That plus I've learnt a bit since then on suspension setup.

Good to see the book of excuses is also being well prepared and ready to go too.......  ^-^  ^-^  ^-^  ^-^

Lol, realistically it should make bugger all difference in regularity, I wanted a bit more rake for high speed Bathurst but now will have to lose a bit to regain some droop.

Might be an idea for the Q contingent to post up their leaving times, routes, etc too. We'll be leaving around 7.00 am from Warwick, going via the Newell Hway which is probably best if towing, arrive around 5.00 pm. Have all day Friday then to jump through the OH&S hoops and iron my hi vis vest  ::)
