  1. Thanks for the explanations, I get the speed differential is an issue but my thoughts are it has a bigger impact on the faster cars' competitiveness. I didn't know the circumstances of the bad crash, we would look ordinary to CAMS if that was the outcome. The sprints are an option but the regularity is more suitable for me and is a lot of fun to be among our mates (if you can go home unharmed). I think I try to achieve my regular times by going near to my potential and probably way off the car's potential. Anyhow still looking forward to next time and hope the guy with the damaged spine is making progress.
  2. Dave I don't understand why the minimum time is special and can't be lowered a few seconds by CB, I am still a bit off that time but understand it is a frustration for the fast guys. We have runs on the board and would think our history with event would count for something.
  3. Ben In NSW you have to be careful of any modifications to the car. If you and the club are confident of it originality then it is OK for historic plates. (Regular rego probably has not necessarily approved modifications either). Cars that are modified beyond small limits require engineering approvals which are an added impost and end up with Modified rego here which has same benefits. However when buying a car, you should be aware if modification have the proper approval or factor in getting the approvals.
  4. Always wondered why the group S cars were so much faster, 7500RPM explains a lot. Back to SWR for a "nut tickling" (is that for me or the car?)
  5. Can't get copy URL to work but if you search "Targa Tasmania 2016 team legacy the Crash" it is still there. Maybe Gav can link it. Also quite a wake up call on the perils of targa and the Zed not turning in.
  6. There are a few Sydney Zs coming down for the Historic meeting at PI. Two of us went last year and had a lovely time. Hopeful of more this year. We are all entered in the regularity event, the cars are modified but still L series. PI ranks up there with the best circuits (argument over it and Bathurst) and it is a great opportunity to test ourselves. If any Z people are going, be sure to say G'day.
  7. Woohoo! Had a great weekend (well Sunday anyway) at Bathurst Challenge. There was talk at CB about the ranking of this track in the world but I think it is the greatest circuit I have driven and the climb up and down the mountain are such a buzz. Congratulations to the Qld Z club for the organisation of our group E and for their dedication to the sport reflected in their fast cars and drivers. Anyhooo My car 71 has a Stewart Wilkins built car, engine L30 about 218hp at wheels. GTR Brakes Coilovers A/C Yokohama A050 mediums Bathurst. best time 19/11/2017 2:47.3 (last year 2:52.3) Talk at CB was to re enter for the Phillip Island Historics in March where I think we did a 1:58, but now I think I could take turn 1 flat. Will consult with her indoors. Wakefield 1:11 I found at Bathurst that for each run I would ask a fast guy how you tackled a certain part and worked on that. Not take on too much advice. Hence flat out through kink and hold flat for half way into chase. Therefore I still need to go for a few more years to get all the track worked out. Don't think we had as much carnage as last year which is amazing considering the wet Saturday (50mm rain), so hope there is not too much pain out there.
  8. Hmmm, I think it is another example of what plagues this country. I call it "professional corruption" where extreme measures and procedures are used to bolster the tin pot department or business and they are extending their brief from refugees to asbestos. Think in their early days the Nazis had the "brownshirts".
  9. Hi Guys My mate Tony made up this clip of me in the regularity at Challenge Bathurst 2016. I have signed up for this year again and hoping to crack the 2:50 barrier, I got 2:51.3 in the last session and if I can go through the kink flat out I might get there. These are mainly cuts from the earlier sessions, where we were still trying to work out etiquette. I was getting some clear runs later. Some of the shots of me are a bit confronting as I still feel 18 but old age is creeping up on me. I have owned this car for 3 years, it was built by Stewart Wilkins racing as a street ready modified Z. It has a 3.1l L series with coilovers, GTR brakes, leather seats and air. It is the white car number 28. These cars are the best, they are still affordable and you get such a thrill from driving them, the car has a lot more ability than me. Hope this inspires some others to sign up for November 2017. Gordon https://youtu.be/Eatq0ElSiyA
  10. Guys Interesting discussion, I would have to support the Subaru choice, I had one of the first diesel Outbacks followed by a automatic one and just thought they were great. Roomy, frugal and good off road ability but great on long drives as well. Hate to say it the auto was the pick. It was very smooth and I towed the red Zed with it quite regularly, it was only after I changed jobs I saw that it was only supposed to tow at 80kph. Whoops! They are quite good value new as well but think there should be some good ones coming through the auctions by now. I thought they were quite different to the forester which I didn't like as much.
  11. Just had an email from Dave about this event and there still seem to be some spots available. 0417649622 Is Dave's number if others are wanting to get on board. Should be a great spectacle and a bucket list for me.
  12. Scott In response to your email, the previous owner said the a/c was fitted by Autofrost, 0297744556. He thought it was about $7k all up, gulp! Maybe send me your mobile. I mentioned a few of us go to Wakefield for the MRA regularity season. Hope this works and it gets a bit more feisty towards the end. Gordon
  13. Congrats Scott Looks a great car and good to see another car in NSW, especially the central coast (I am in Newcastle). In case you were looking for something to do there is the all Japanese car and bike show on this Sunday morning at Hunter Stadium. This conversion has a lot of appeal, does it have a/c? Think that is my favourite modification. Bloozed (now white)
  14. Evening all The Z has still not been found, but the 2 guys who got pinched for stealing it have just been sentenced. One got a suspended sentence and the other got 3 years, but he will be out in January 2016 after time served and good behaviour bond. The police put a huge effort into this case as they also had done other jobs that night and harassed an old lady. The police said it was typical sentence, one of them had a swag of kids so suspended, I think de sexing might have been warranted. The insurance paid out, but never enough when you are looking for a replacement but The Zed community came through and found another car. It is great and probably much better than ZED 003 but I only remember the old one through rose coloured glasses. There is a good story behind trying to track the car down, came so close but these guys keep an eye on these sites for information and they are not worth getting tangled up with again. Good BBQ story. There were downsides with the information I posted according to the police but having you guys looking out for it was a great comfort, it went worldwide. The insurance company were great and I guess it will be theirs now if recovered.
  15. Hi all, Just an update, there has been people arrested for stealing this car and other break ins, I have my trailer back but not the car, it can't be found. A lot has happened and I would like to fill you in but can't yet. Just wanted to warn you that there seems to be a group out there targetting these type of cars so be very careful that your cars are secure. Gordon
  16. Thx Scott I had it re sprayed since the photos, after hitting a tyre wall at Morgan Park last March. The body was in better shape than when you and me first looked at it. My mobile phone was replaced with the new job but it took me a few weeks to get the old number changed over and one of the messages left over that time was a guy telling me he didn't know me but wanted to tell me what happened to my car. It was blocked and he said he would ring back the next morning. Hasn't happened but got me going for a while there. Gordon 0427 889 817
  17. Hi guys the latest news is there is no news. sadly it has disappeared and I am going through the process with insurance companies. It didn't have the lock on it. We thought it was safe. There is work on the additional rail line going on over the road and maybe someone saw it go in. Must say I would recommend everyone of these trailer tools to lock your treasures up. I would consider something like a tracking system now although I might have gone round to get the car myself and that might have been dodgy. I have lost all my contact emails and mobile number as a result of moving jobs and houses but new work is gordon.lennox@water.nsw.gov.au. Jeeze it has been a stressful month, thanks to everyone who has offered support Gordon
  18. Thanks for the help, I am impressed with the power of the Zed community. No word on the car or trailer as yet. The trailer is a Tilta trailer from Qld. NSW rego Y68238. It is a clever design that is lightweight. It is tandem. www.tiltatrailer.com.au/ The Zed, ZED003 (NSW) has a cage, it has been developed by Stewart Wilkins Motorsport over the last 10 years so has brake, suspension and engine modifications typical of their work. It had an extensive repair after going into a tyre wall at Morgan Park in Qld last March, including a full respray. The bonnet wasnt sitting properly and the front spoiler was sprayed black which I wasnt happy with. The front door was just rubbing on the guard. Its engine number is L28466334 and chassis number HS30103613. Locked inside the car was my racing gear, Stillo helmet, Hans device and racing suit. So they got a complete ready to go package, looking forward to seeing it on a track soon. We are moving from Dubbo to Newcastle for a new job and the rental place we have managed to get doesnt have good space so I wanted to store the car near the action around sydney until we got a better place, probably wasnt thinking clearly although thought it was a safe spot. Thanks again although realise that as time goes by it is less likely to show up. There are a few bad/sad people who do this stuff but they are vastly outnumbered by the good. We value our car of course but value more the friends we have made with the cars. Gordon and Karen
  19. Dear all Thanks for your help, I am moving homes and am in Newcastle at present sorting out a house. I don't have engine number handy but will ring Stewart Wilkins tomorrow to see if Stewart has the details. The tandem tilts tray car trailers are getting pretty common out there. Very touched at your response and grateful to Geoff and Vince who swung into action when I was going round in circles. Police have investigated and their report number is E52747725 if that will help reporting. Thanks again Gordon 0427889817
  20. Hi, I bought a trailer recently for my 240Z, it was a tandem tilt trailer weighing in at 550KG and I planned to change my work vehicle from a Subaru Outback (diesel) to a dual cab as the Outback was getting close to its towing limitof1700kg with the Zed. I borrowed an Amorok VW in the meantime and it went well. Next time I couldn't get the Amorok and just had to use the Subaru and I was pleasantly surprised. It pulled the car and trailer with ease and gave fuel consumption just under 10l/100km. That was from Dubbo to Goulburn, a fair trip. I am lucky I have access to a work car but the new outback is a great all round vehicle.
  21. Hey guys thanks for the response, I tried the pm but didn't work. I had the little black box replaced but now the issue seems to have moved on to fuel delivery. (has been sitting for a few months.) Will keep chasing it down Bloozed
  22. Evening all I am frustrated, apart from that my 260Z 2+2 has a 280ZX fuel injected engine which has always been ultra reliable. I bought another 240Z but the "old dependable" had blown a head gasket and was in the garage for a while and when I eventually went to get it, there was an electrical problem that the garage thought was the reluctor coil?? The car ran as normal and then it would cut out and be stranded for an hour or so till it cooled. Cut to the chase, the local auto electrician now says it needs a new distributor and they are unavailable according to him. He is an auto electrician and doesn't know"these jap parts, let me have a Bosch". Does anyone know of anyone who reconditions them, supplies new ones, has one spare or knows an alternative to get this car going again. I would appreciate someone giving me some direction on this, funny I had just started to think that a 2.5T upgrade was the next step but the garage thought the engine was in great condition and I think it is time to let this car go to another to love as I am more into the new car. Any ideas? Gordon
  23. Thanks for the replies, yes we are a bit isolated from the action. I was looking for a chance to take the car to Wakefield but the advanced training probably makes more sense. Have a few family members who want to get in and have a go so Wakefield is better value for a group but eastern creek has some charm. Thanks for the good advice. Wanted to try Wakefields 6 hour event as part of a team I helped out with last year so the advanced training would be smart.
  24. Guys I have purchased this car with the seat installed in a 240Z with a roll cage. The seat must be about 4 years old and in very good condition. It came with a Willans harness that is the same age, the harness expires on 2013 but I have been told that CAMS allow a 5 year extension. I think it is the standard seat, it is a bit snug on me but I can fit easily when it is out of the car. I am thinking $700 for seat and harness, what are you thinking? Gordon
  25. We have recently moved form Orange to Dubbo in Central west NSW. Working on a shortage of garage space at the moment but I think that would be a common theme on here. I went on a Tassie tour a few years ago when a few Sydney cars came down and would like to go again. I know a few of the Sydney Z guys and they gave me great help getting this new car. Gordon
